Takedown, I understand it was a compliment and thanks, there is no question about my loyalty. I was rasied as a UGA fan and have remained one since I can rememeber. Duly noted on the diplomatic side of things, and I understand where you are coming from. Not to fear though, my integerity is intact, along with my standards I just try to be rational when it comes to posting on here, I`d rather let everyone else win the blog contest as long as the dawgs are winning the actual games, and as i said before, I prefer to do my trash talking after a game. Go Dawgs!!!

Takedowndawg: You made some good points. I do agree that Cox could very well have a solid year, but I don't know that I would go as far as to compare him to Shockley. I just don't see him winning big games for you guys against quality opponants. He will be okay against most teams on your schedule because you should be able to take the pressure off of him with your run game, which should be formidable this year with a healthy OL back this season. However with that being said, I see him running for his life against Florida's defense. By the way, I thought Shockley was a very good college QB with a much higher skill level than what I have seen thus far from Cox, but we shall see what develops during the season when toe finally meets leather in Gainesville and Athens come September. I also admire your loyalty, which is what makes college football, especially in the South (SEC) with it's fan passion, the greatest spectator sport in this country in my humble opinion. I have enjoyed the back & forth with you and wish you and your Dawgs the best except against of of course, ha, ha. Go SEC! Take care.

60'sdcdawg, just got back in town and enjoyed your blog. Understand now that your from Florida and stand by you guns concerning UF loyality. I admire loyality, and you are loyal. Still, agree to disagree with you on the quarterbacks at Georgia now and in the future. I think that we are loaded for the future. I think that Cox's predigree at Independence High(NC) will come through big this season as did Shockley's a couple of years ago. He doesn't like to lose. He has the respect of his teammates, knows the system and I believe that he will do UGA a great job THIS year. Be careful, about writing him off too soon, DC. Going into this year, I still have serious problems with our defensive coordinator and also, our special teams play. Less than stellar.and marginal at times. If we are going to win 10+ games this year they have to improve significantly. I like and admire controlled aggression on both sides of the ball. We did not show enough consistently on either side of the ball last year. Here's hoping it is being addressed.

JaX Dawg, I was paying you a compliment. But remember, the media LOVED John McCain for years and years because he generally sided with the opposition party on most issues or "played the fence", untilllll, he became the presidental nominee! Then he could not do anything right according to the mainstream media and he was coined a raving idiot with a awful temper, remember. There is a price for being overly diplomatic, you can lose much of your personal integrity. Agree where you can, but do have personal standards that you don't budge from when it comes to the area of team loyalty.

Hey, takedowndawg, I'm just responding to all this typical Georgia nonsense my man...that's all. By the way, I grew up and still live in Jacksonville, FL and by the way have been around a little longer than you (Florida class of 67). Like I said regarding GA QB's.....at the monent you really don't have one. True freshman Murray may or may not prove to be a good one, but as of right now you are either stuck with Cox who is average at best or a true freshman somewhere in the middle of the upcoming season. Not good! If Cox was as good as touted coming out of Chris Leak's old high school four years ago, then he would have at least pushed Stafford somewhere along the line, but he never did. Ask yoursel is he as good or better than Stafforsd. I would certainly hope better if I were a puppy fan, because staffors only had minimal success against the Gators. By the way, Urban appears arrogant to you Puppy fans because he owns you and you know it. One last thing regarding recruiting. There is an example of one big difference between SOS owning you and Urban owning you and it all revolves around a question that SOS made to the media following one of our many wins against your puppies in the 90's, as follows: How come it is that come national signing day Georgia supposedly signed all the best players, but come game day....we appear to have the best players? The big difference now is that we sign the best players in February and they prove to still be the best players come October. Georgia did do a good job in getting a comittment from the Benedict kid from the Bolles school here in Jacksonville, but he spent most of his life in South Carolina and really had no long time ties to the state Florida, so that came as no big surpise. However, the other kids that cmitted to the puppies from here are 3 star rate kids and could obviously turn out to be good players some day, but another question you might need to ask yourself is why would Georgia jump the gun to offer 2 & 3 star rated kids in June of 2009, when national signing day is not until February of 2010? The truth is the defending national champs don't have to do that, as they have 4 & 5 star kids lined up that want to comitt to them, but they can afford to wait on some of them until next February, in leiu of offering a kid this early that might be considered a project. I believe, as a long time follower of recruiting, that the puppies offered a couple of these out of state kids because they are not in on as many big time kids right now as you might think. Just facts my man....just quoting facts!

I saw Alec Ogletree play in the playoffs last year when Newnan played, I think, Tift County. He's a man. UGA needed another big physical safety. He fits the bill.

Pretty funny takedowndawg, I`m from Warner Robins and raised about a Dawg Fan my whole life. I`m not really a diplomat, yes I am almost at ground zero (besides Gainesville) for Gator fans. I just try to make a sensible post other that what some of the others do on here. Personallly I prefer to do most of my "trash talk" after a game is played. GO DAWGS!!!

UGA is on an unbelievable run recruiting. I will be very surprised if Brown plays his home games anywhere but Athens. If UGA wants a player, they get the player. At least that's how it's been going for the past several years. GO DAWGS!

I do agree with the Gator Fans that their AD is making sure Urban Meyer doesn`t go anywhere and yes, any fan of a rival team of a Coach who is building a good program against their team definitely wants him to "pursue" other venues. Do I think he is leaving anytime soon? probably not, but as a fan of good football and the SEC this is how it is in the toughest Conference in the Nation Top teams top Coaches up and down the Conference so good on the Gators for keeping him, I`m sure if UGA had him we`d be doing the same thing.

To Tampa Gator - I was not saying that ALL Gator fans are bandwagon fans, all I was implying was that in the most recent 3-5 yr span you guys have picked fans that have absolutely No knowledge of Gator Football and are riding the coattails of the recent success that Florida has. I have some good friends here in Jacksonville who are Gator fans, and even they have told me they cannot stand the amount of bandwagon fans they have seen in orange and blue and are total idiots don`t worry.... I`ve seen my share of dawg fans that make us look bad as well. again good luck this year to all and GO DAWGS!!!

As to the previous post on Aaron Murray...AM wanted to play right away. He saw UF's depth chart with Tebow backed up by John Brantley (5* and Gatorade HS player of the year) meaning Murray may not see the field for the next 3 years in Gainesville and looked at UGA and saw Joe Cox. Where would you go?

No disrespect to other posters but why would a running back go to a program whose very best rushing offense during his tenure was ranked 38th out of all D1 programs? That is inspite of having consistently high ranked running backs on campus out of Georgia's better HS programs.

What is happening to these kids after they arrive in Athens? Is their not a commitment to the running game? Are the O lineman not very good? Is the scheme flawed or too old school? Are the kids poorly coached? Is the offense not condusive to getting the ball to their playmakers giving them the best chance to hit big plays?

What gives?

60sdcgator, no quarterbacks at UGA? Amusing. I do believe we added a pretty good passer(AARON MURRAY) out of the Tampa area last year that after meeting with UM he choose the PUPS instead of your highness. Your highness then proceeded to insult him for his decision. Shortly, afterwards we added also added the # 1 TE in FL(#2 in the nation) ORSON CHARLES to play catch with him. I saw Murray at the spring G-game for 10-12 plays. He has the tightest. quickest. catchable spiral that I have seen at Georgia since Eric Zier. He made all five of his passes attempeted and made it look easy like a future great one will. I think your highness let a great one get away. His arrogance(UM) will cost him a lot more, like Murray, in the future. Lighten up dc. I sounds like you and I are about the same age and love our respective teams which is great. By the way, do you live in Florida or do you live in GEORGIA. I always, thought it unual that NY's living in Georigia/Florida would have "I love NY" pasted all over their bumpers and would consistently run down the southern states for not being as good as the NY area but when asked "why don't you move back to where it is "promised land" they love they say, no way! Dc, do you live in Georgia? If you live in Florida, accept my apologies ahead of time. Otherwise, lighten up some on our native state. where we live and alot of us went to school(UGA) alumni 1975.

Like I said, all these puppies are both jealous and downright pathetic as they pray Meyer will leave Flrorida. I can't say as I blame them. JDB, turn the radio down in your pickup truck so you can comprehend my question to you. Urban already had his chance to be the head coach at Notre Dame and tunred it down. Did you forget that fact? What you puppies fail to understand is what Bear Bryant said 4 decades ago and that was "If florida ever puts it all together in terms of the right AD and the right coach, they will dominate the SEC" "They are a sleeping giant". Well puppies, that prophecy came true. What you guys don't get is that it is not just about Meyer. Florida has had the best overall sports program in the SEC for years and is the only school to be ranked in the top ten college sports programs in the nation for 11 straight years. That is because of AD Jeremy Foley, so even if Meyer were to move on one day, Florida has become one of the very elites in college sports, so great coaches will be knoocking the door down for the job. Face it, The Gators are not going anywhere, so you need to just accept that fact and get used to it. Just enjoy the fact that your puppies are okay...certainly not great by any means, but just accept it and you will all sleep a lot better

IF Urban ever leaves UF, believe me, it won't be because of money. Jeremy Foley will make sure of that. Spurrier didn't leave because of money, he just felt like it was the time to try the NFL. Things can always change but Urban has been quoted several times as saying he is not a real fan of coaching in the Pro game. Maybe when his kids are all grown up he will try a new challenge but thats 7-8 years away. In the meantime, it will remain a Bulldog fantasy because they know thats the only way this tide will turn...or maybe not...even the Zooker ruled the Dawgs.

Urban will leave for Notre Dame and here's why. Firstly it will be money, probably the biggest contract ever for a college football coach. Secondly, it will be the "honor" of taking over the most historied program in all of college football. And finally, because in his heart of hearts, UF will never be "home" to Urban because of how personally different he is from the vast majority of alumni as well as the rest of the state of Florida of whom the university represents. He was born in Ohio, went to Catholic high school, and spent the majority of his coaching career in the Midwest, establishing a clear identity with values typical of other like-minded Catholic folks from Ohio and NOT one that will ever truly feel at home at Jean Shorts U. At almost every SEC school, the coach is from the South, and most are comprised of values that are consistent with the people of the state and its flagship school, thus contributing to the likelihood that a coach will remain loyal to his school simply because it feels like home. At UF, there is no such connection and it really has nothing to do with Meyer. It's the fact that half of the state is there on vacation and lives in Ontario 6 months of the year. It's the reason for the existence of the phrase "it's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there". Combined with the departure of Tim Tebow and the realization that regardless of the decade or millenia for that matter, there will always be endless throngs of the sweetest mullets ever seen, complete with jean shorts and herringbone gold necklaces, ready to cheer on the gators...

...I'd leave town too...

Ferndolin....Florida has a long list of running backs that have not just played in the NFL, but have been stars on their teams. The list is a long one. I just don't want to bother everyone with a long list. But you can check it out on the web. Smith just happens to be a Hall of Fame player that just happens to be a former Florida RB and the NFL's all time leading rusher. Fred Taylor with Jax, Jones with Detroit, Anderson with Chicago are just a few other current and former NFL RB stars that played in Gainesville. Even DeShawnn Wynn, a backup at Florida, became Green Bay's leading rusher before he went down with an injury. The Gators not only put RBs in the NFL, they become star RBs in the NFL. By the way, how did Hershel, your greatest RB, do in the NFL? Over hyped and over blown. He could run over college and World League (or whatever the name of the "pro" league was) players, but he was almost a total bust in the NFL. He couldn't carry Emmitt Smith's jock strap.

Money speaks and Jeremy Foley, our AD, is pro-active enough to make sure that money is not a reason for Urban to leave. JaxDawg knows the reason why people dangle big money in front of Urban Meyer - he's the best coach in college football - period. Kinda funny that Richt is never mentioned as a candidate for another coaching position and no one is dangling big bucks in his face. The fact is, Richt is not a great coach. Decent, but definitely not great. Urban is a great coach and has built a great program. He's not going anywhere anytime soon. Sorry to break the news.

JaxDawg: Good post. There are surely some band wagon jumpers that have joined Gator nation in the last few years, but for the most part Gator fans have always been very loyal to the school and the team. I have been following thenm for over 50 years. I am an alum and have been a Gator booster & season ticket holder since 1975, so I have seen it all, including traveling to every stadium in the SEC as least once over the last 25-30 years. A good example of that loyalty to the program goes all the way back to 1969, when Florida went 0-10-1 and still finished in the top 10 in the nation for total attendance that year. The swamp has been sold out for years, unlike the school out west over in T'ackahassee, who cannot sell their stadium out and in fact was reported recently in the newspaper that their season ticket sales are down 12% for the second year in a row. One last thought to all the Dawg fans that have spewed smack talk in their posts above....Jealousy is not a pretty trait, ha, ha, ha.

UGA`s recruiting is going strong, I hope the trend keeps going. The reality is, that UFs O-Coordinator left this year, and surprisingly enough Charlis Strong stayed on, he will be an Outstanding Head Coach somewhere in the near future. Jesus Timmy leaves this year, and sooner or later, someone is going to dangle an offer in front of Urban Meyer that even he won`t be able to refuse. I also personally feel that if the UGA Defense does not get any better and the dawgs have the same penalty and special team issues they had last year, Mark Richt might have have to make some personnel changes.. To the TRUE Dawg and Gator fans we all know the history between our 2 programs is very streaky Ok fine, I`m going to see posted after this that UGA has won only 3 of the last 19 ganes or whatever it is now but, it`s funny that UF has won that many straight but still catching up to UGA who owns the entire series? Yes, the tides will turn soon and when that happens, all of these bandwagon 3-4 yr. Gator fans will dust off their FSU or Miami hats and start yapppin about them again. To the true fans on both sides that I know, good luck this year and GO DAWGS!!!

Hey takedowndawg: Dream on! By the way, four year run? Ooooh, you mean our two NC's...not the run we have been in over the 20 years or so with the puppies. I'm sure you don't want to talk about that. Also, don't even mention QB's at Georgia, cause at this moment you have none. You just lost Stafford who may prove to be the most overrated QB to play college football in recent memory. He was a kid with great talent, big arm, but no decision making ability in big games when it really counted. However, the same could be said for Peyton Manning coming out fo UT and he turned out to be a great pro, but then again he never beat us. The truth is when debating your favorite team, the opponant that has been kicking your butt on a regular basis, means that any small time smack talk from their fans is really kind of ridiculas. Until your team steps up and accomplishes something other than being average, you can't win any depabe wth Gator fans. It's really just that simple.

Gator Fans -

At Ga Tech we're starting to recruit outside the U.S. For example we've recently received a verbal from a Samali field goal kicker named Mystank E. Turbin. He can kick a soccer ball 300 yards. We also picked up the number 1 OT out of Tehran High, named Omar Burka. Omar will be the largest OT in Div. one at 4'11 675 lbs. Coach Johnson has also got his eyes on a couple of Paki running backs that run sub 4.3 40's.

Not at all worried about UGAY recruiting. Nobody in Athens to coach em up!Those that claim coach Meyer is leaving Florida are really stupid. Spend some time with the Florida staff in the environement they have created in Gainesville. It is special. I love Spurrier but, he never created what this staff has. I hope the SEC all have great recruiting years, they better, Saban, Meyer and Miles will and you don't want to be left behind!

60'sdcgator, you know that you've had your four year run and some large pieces of the UF puzzle are going to come apart. You know it, don't you. "All good things must come to an end"; remember the Dallas Cowboys, USC, Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, NE Patriots,Florida State Sem.. All had great runs but now they are not the same. But, give you gators your due for the four years(including this year). As far as Brantley is concerned, you would think that Tebows records are now in jeporady even as we speak. It is amusing. "An imagination is a terrible thing to waste", and you are obviously not wasting yours as far as Brantley is concerned. I would not trade one of the QB's now signed or playing at UGA for him. Go look at their comparative stats and his.

That's it TampaGator. A single running back made a name in the nfl. What about UGA? Let's see....hmm, what do you know. Can't think of a one. UGA is a rock star school for running backs. Everyone knows that and when timothy leaves gainsville after this year you got noth'n. That's whe CUM leaves and Spurrier arrives.

Hey Turbin, give me some of that Kool Aid your drinking. No SEC team will be able to handle Ga Tech trhis season? Ha, ha, ha, that's the dumbest thing I have heard in a quite while You better go back and hide with your friends in the cave before you continue to embarass yourself. You guys crack me up with all this Notre Dame talk. You wish!!! Notre Dame is a big step down from the Florida job right now and there is no argument to that fact, so why would Urban seek a demotion? One more thing, be carefull what you wish for in terms of after Tebow leaves Florida. College football will then have to deal with John Brantley, who Tebow himself has been quoted as saying is a better pure QB than himself. Tebow is the best football player in college football and John Brantley may be the better pure QB. Urban is past the rebuilding stage at Florida and is currently in an annual reloading mode, so don't hold your breath on the Gators fortunes heading anywhere but upward in the future. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but facts are facts and the Gators are loaded for not just next year, but for many years to come.
