Stephenson DB headed for East Carolina

By DARRYL MAXIE / dmaxie@ajc.com

While his more well known teammates are still sorting out their scholarship offers, Stephenson defensive back Chris Sharpe has committed to East Carolina. The 5-foot-10, 158-pound rising senior also played receiver for coach Ron Gartrell’s Jaguars.

Linebacker Tyrone Cornileus and defensive tackle Mike Thornton still have yet to decide. Miami has been looking like a strong possibility for Cornileus, and a decision could be close. Thornton, on the other hand, seems to be the prize in a battle between in-state rivals Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Tech hasn’t even offered. Thornton is a backup if we can’t get Shawn Green

Tech has offered Cornileus and Thorton. What are you talking about? Thorton has flown under the radar. You should keep an eye on this kid.

Backup??? Thornton has 23 offers. I seriously doubt he is anyone’s backup. Any school in the state would be lucky to get Thornton.

Thorton may claim to have a GT offer but the only committable offer that GT has out to a DT is to Shawn Greene.

Well I guess Garrison Smith and Jeffrey Whitaker have the same “claiming” problem. I didn’t know getting an offer from GT was so great that recruits would lie about it just to look good?

Exactly! Why would somebody jump to claim GT? UGA- maybe. This Thornton kid is awesome. People haven’t picked up on him yet. Wait until the season starts. You will see what all the talk is about and why GT wants him too.

Hey Sharpe!! While hangin’ out in Greenville, you need to go to Parker’s BBQ or Bee’s BBQ for some good NC style BBQ. Then go to Cubbie’s for a good hamburger. Then drive over to little Washington and get a Bill’s hotdog!! mmm good. Good luck with the Pirates!

We put Green above Thornton right now according to inside information. Sorry Dawgs, but Paul Johnson looks for specific players, and sometimes those players aren’t what everyone wants.

After E. Carolina lost(?) Bill(uga)Lewis to TECH and he showed his coaching powers East Carolina is doing well. It is a great town and you can go TROUT FISHING to get away from it all. Enjoy your time in school and get that DEGREE.

Thornton is a pretty good DT, not the best but a pretty good DT and he may end up going to tech b/c ga will be full at DT pretty soon… wait and see dawg fans..whom ever he goes to will get a player that is explosive. Sharpe is undersized and is not as fast as most would like with his size…Nice little playmaker though…Great pickup for ECU..

BRAVES BLOW ME SINCE BIRTH—- What UGA SECONDARY are you talking about? ANY player could compete for a job in the UGA secondary after last years JOKE. what did they pick 4-8 passes? HAHAHAHA. UGA couldn’t even get Eric BERRY (from So. Fulton) to play for WILLIE the JOKE. He went to TENN of all places but you guys have a secondary to plat with. HAHAHAHAHA.

Whew, inside every cloud is that proverbial silver lining! If memory serves me correctly, P-DAWG doesn’t claim to be an actual Tech grad, so I don’t have to work to distance myself from that prick…ahhhhhh…

Billad you need to check your info. Both Thornton and Green have offers from Tech. Tech will take one more DT and possibly one more OT. Both kids like Tech (the state champion). Rivals sets their boards up to make it look like in state kids are considering Ga. and not GT! Not the case! Another kid that Ga. has offered in state also has been offered by GT, is leaning toward Tech, and the boards don’t even show that! Time will prove this post right!! Georgia’s depth of 4.3 speed DB’s only served to get them off the field faster after last years game! Didn’t help during the game according to Roddy and Dwyer.

B.F.S.B!!
The Braves are below 500. 4.3 speed is only a guide. The georgia secondary got burned so much last year but so did all of the def. Coach D understood that you win with defense and running the ball not throwinf it. Just look at his record. NO DEFENSE NO WIN

Coach Gartrell other known as Tuna in Washington-Wilkes is a great Coach. I personally know him. He does a find job with his boys on the team, but he doesn’t pressure him. Good luck to all of them. Ramblin Wreck!

Pi$$onaDAWG – For your information, Eric Berry’s father played for Tennessee. That is why he committed there. Nobody else ever had a chance at him. Learn your facts before you just start spewing the idiocy.

Also, Thorton has offers from both schools. He is a very good DT, would love to have him at UGA. Garrison is going out of state and Green is going to FSU. Keep dreaming about getting him to Tech, maybe in a couple of years after PJ has time to build something there, but not a chance right now. Thorton is the best DT you guys have any actual shot at.
