Denzel McCoy says don’t even try it. For schools who think they can talk the Northview defensive tackle out of his commitment to Georgia Tech — and there are a few — McCoy says they have a better chance of blasting his 6-foot-4, 273-pound frame off the line of scrimmage than they do of changing his mind.
“I just tell the other schools I’m done with my decision and I won’t be taking other visits,” McCoy told Sporting News. “The only thing that I’m going to be wearing that’s football affiliated is Georgia Tech stuff. You can tell me whatever you want. A lot of schools are still after me pretty hard, preaching the same thing, trying to just get me to come on visits.”
Obviously, coaches who try to get recruits to waffle on commitments — and there isn’t a school that doesn’t try it — know that they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. For every 50 McCoys, there’s the occasional Nu’Keese Richardson, the wide receiver Tennessee snagged from Florida.
Ethical? Not ethical? Fans can make their own minds about that. But the NCAA says commitments aren’t binding until a prospect signs on the line that is dotted, and at the end of the day, that’s the only thing a coach must follow.

Great decision, Denzel.
He is going to be a heck of a player down the stretch for GT football in a couple of years. He is a highly rated DT for espn, but not so much with scout and a couple of other recruiting databases. Regardless, a lot of bigtime schools have offered him. Great pickup for CPJ this year along a couple of other studs, ex. Ryan Ayers, Fred Holton, Morgan Bailey. Cant wait to see if any other bigtime players commit and add to this great year of recruiting!

Hey Maxie,
I guess your Rivals subscription is up so now you have to steal your articles from Sporting News? What happened? Is the AJC so broke they can’t afford to pay the $7 a month so that you can “report” the latest recruiting news? What’s next, stealing an article from the recruits high school newspaper?

Do we really think all those coaches are after him????? This is part of the tech propaganda acting like Georgia is after all their recruits. They try to stage the commitments so it looks like tech is beating Georgia. Very few of the boys Georgia recruits are interested in tech. Georgia is ranked # 9 and tech is # 22 so far this recruiting season. It is amazing that tech made the top 25.

The optimism I get, the delusional idea GT is a world beater or a dominate team over UGA is just plain stupid after ONE season where the nerds exceeded expectations. There’s way more that goes into a season or single game besides Coaching or talent level. What are you guys gonna say if the bees get hit hard by the injury bug in October and lose to Georgia in November? What if a key call goes against tech, and changes the outcome of the game? Heck let’s say 3 starters are declared ineligible because of grades, then what? There are so many variables I don’t see how any tech fan can believe the UGA game is a shoe in. yea teck won one, big freaking deal it’s been nearly a decade and two coaches since the trade schoolers have won back to back games in this series (99 & 00), if I were a tech fan, I be scared to death of CMR’s road record and the fact teck has inexperienced d-linemen and a secondary that practices all day against the option, instead of play action passes. And if you think the UGA staff and players haven’t circled November 28th your crazy. I’d be more afraid that UGA won’t let off the throttle till the last 60 seconds of the game.

I kinda feel sorry you, but not really I am glad you wet the bed evry night thinking about the Tech game this year.

Damn, I wish you guys could spell—both UGAG and Tech posters. There is a BIG difference between the words “your” and “you’re”, Also between “losing” and “loosing”, “their” and “there”, “two”, “to”, and “too”, and “no” and “know.” I don’t mean to be the spelling/grammar nazi here, but give me a break; didn’t you guys learn anything in school? Of course, I know the answer to that regarding the UGAG posters, who probably never finished grammar school. But Jackets, if we are going to claim that Tech has educational superiority, then show it in your posts.

D & D Fan … so it’s okay for you to be optimistic when it comes to GA in the rivalry game, but not Chad??
I guess you call the previous 4 seasons before ‘45-42′ TOTAL DOMINATION by the dogs, and that NOTHING ‘bounced’ their way. 34-17, 15-12, 14-7, 19-13. And that was with you-know-who HC’ing, and 3-times with Reggie, Reggie, Reggie playing QB. Those 2 things simply won’t “bounce” GA’s way from here forward as long as PJ in HC’ing. No need for optimism with that, it’s just a fact.
And yes, I totally understand the cliche: “that’s why they play the games”

He isn’t even good at football, he is just huge. If it weren’t for his dad nobody would even look at him. It’s a shame how some people get so lucky and land a spot in such a good school. Other students work so hard and don’t get into GT when they apply. And here comes a huge kid with no talent what-so-ever and gets in. The system is messed up.

It must not be a lot and you must be pretty disappointed in yourself to say the system is messed up. I’m not here to judge you but you have a lot of animosity in you. I’ve known Coach McCoy for years and all he has every done is help kids get noticed and into school. Ranging from Channing Crowder, Coleman Watson, Victor Ugenyi, Andre Barbour, Kevin Sweet, Cordian Haggins , Cameron Fordham, Efremm Hill, and the list goes on and on. All of these kids had to prove to the collegiate coaches that they had the ability to play first. Oh and by the way you should take advantage of that Northview Education and learn how write things grammatically correct.

You weren’t there for all of the extra weight training sessions and speed sessions out side of school. It takes a different person to be offered by so many schools. They do an ordinary thing an extra ordinary way. Not only do they have to make it in the classroom but they have to basically hold a full time job outside of school. I wonder how balanced your schedule is living in North Fulton.

First of all, I think you need to learn how to use the correct form of “you’re”. You see.. It is broken down into two words, you and are. The form you are using is the possessive form. You know, like “Your intelligence is ignominious”. I enjoy participating in school spirited activities, such as going to the football games. I did not know this made me a “cheerleader”, which I find a childish attempt at an insult. I do not belong to any of the school’s sports teams, but I do excel in academic studies (a real world tool Denzel will never acquire). I’m sorry I am “hatting” (haha… it’s funny because you probably went over your post several times and didn’t catch that failure attempt to spell hating) on your “homeboy”, but I feel bad if Georgia Tech feels like they recruited a “winner”.
As for the boy who probably obtains an IQ in the single digits (Nick).. Do you notice how your attempts at being funny are constantly not laughed at? Take a hint. Maybe read up on some good jokes to open up with. It is good to open up a book every now and then to stimulate what’s left of your brain. Give it a try and you will thank me. Tech actually has a coach, not just a “Motivational Speaker”…living in a van down by the river!
Or selling carpet…oh yeah, noticed that he took so much heat for that that his wife is now the one hocking carpet. There is a softball for you boys.
And no E, the uga recruits didn’t consider Tech…pretty sure Tech didn’t consider most of them either. Glad to see that uga did beat out FIU Western Mich and the likes for him. Took him right out from under FIU’s nose. What a steal!
Your superior recruiting can now take a back seat with your superior play. It is time for you to have a come to Jesus meeting with your expectations. If cmr couldn’t do it last year, it ain’t gonna happen.
