True Blue… you do make some valid points. Sorry you had a bad experience with your son’s guidence teacher. If the guidence office does not know what is going on or is suppose to be going on in their own school they should have been fired . You got short changed by your school system. My situation was much like you predicted except I did college and military. You must be “Carnac”? In my experience, guidence offices worked very close with coaches and any other organizations that could make them a better employee. Congrats to your wife for staying on top of this issue. My suggestion still stands; no program needed, just find the guidence office and ask. Any parent should be a regular visitor to that office. It is what we do to earn the “tag” parent.

PADDY, WHO DO YOU THINK DOES YOUR KID SCHEDULE. THE REASON I SAY THIS IS BECAUSE A LOT OF PARENTS DON’T KNOW ABOUT CLEARINGHOUSE AND CORE CLASSES. SO, IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW CAN YOU ASK A QUESTION. SOME OF THESE KIDS MIGHT BE THE FIRST FROM THEIR FAMILY THAT TRYING TOO ATTEND COLLEGE. THEN PADDY YOU MIGHT HAVE COME FROM A FAMILY THAT SAID AFTER HIGH SCHOOL EITHER COLLEGE OR SERVICE. THEN YOU PROBABLY WENT TO A SCHOOL THAT CARED ABOUT THEIR ATHLETES, BECAUSE YOU STILL HAVE TEACHERS WHO DISLIKE ATHLETES.SO WHAT IT WOULD HURT IF THE INFORMATION WAS THERE FOR THE PARENTS.PLUS IT’S BEEN PLENTY OF TIME DURING MY SON SCHOOL YEAR FROM ELEMENTARY TO MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOL THAT MY WIFE HAD TO GO TO GUIDANCE OFFICE AND CHANGE HIS SCHEDULE , BECAUSE OF THE CLASSES THEY HAD HIM SCHEDULE TO TAKE OR WAS TAKING THAT SEMESTER. IF MY WIFE HAD NOT DID HER HOMEWORK MY SON WOULD HAVE FELL IN THAT HOLE WITH THE OTHERS. SO EVERYBODY DON’T KNOW AND IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW CAN YOU ASK.

True Blue… I must disagree. We do not need a program to help parents help their kids with CORE related issues. If you are a parent, just go to the guidence office at your kids school and ASK THEM. End of program.

I agree with you Big Mike to a point but, by the time a kid is 17-18yrs old no matter his upbringing.. between his peers/teammates, and if he has a half decent Coach, the kid WILL have a basic knowledege of what he needs to do to succeed in life. It doesn`t take a rocket scientist to realize: 1. Study and get decent grades to get into college and continue to play foootball 2. Threatening teachers is not good people skills

At some point the HS coaches that put these players on the field have to take some blame, it is downright derelict for a HS Coach to play a player and clearly know that the player is not on track to qualify through the NCAA’s Clearinghouse. It seems as if the HC on the HS Level only cares about “his wins” and cares nothing for that player’s future. The Parents do get most of the blame, but that HS HC is constantly bombarded with info about the NCAA’s Clearinghouse and what it takes to qualify, that HS Coach should make a better effort to see that his players are in a position to at least accept that Scholarship.

I have to agree with the post about “HS having a class for parents or some instruction for parnets” of all kids not just the star athletes…I was blind on what to do my Jr. & Sr. year in HS, my parents did not know a thing about helping me choose what to do to take the next step…I played freshman ball at Troy University but didn’t have a clue on what to expect or do as a college freshman…will the GA. HS’s step up and help parents with preparing kids for the next biggest step in thier lives??

WE SEEN ALOT OF THIS WITH THIS YEAR AJC SUPER 11 FROM GREG REID , WASHAUN EALEY ,TO ERIC FIELDS AND ETC.EACH SCHOOL SHOULD HAVE A PROGRAM SETUP TO HELP PARENTS WHO DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT IT TAKES ACADEMICALLY FOR A KID TO QUALIFY TOO PLAY AT THE NEXT LEVEL.BECAUSE IT’S SAD TO READ ABOUT THIS IN THE NEWS.PARENTS QUIT LETTING YOUR KID BE EXPLOITED THEN AT THE END YOU WANT TO CRY FOUL. Harpoon, the poor grammar is quite common in these postings. It really is somewhat embarrassing that fellow Dawg fans are not capable of proofing their posts prior to hitting the submit button.

But I digress. Mr. Moody truly is a disappointment at this time in his life because of the immense opportunity that he squandered. There are dozens of these kids every year that don’t appreciate the chances the good lord gives them.

My hope is that Mr. Moody can recognize the error of his ways and turn things around. Please remember that he is still a kid and will make mistakes. I hope that he can learn from those mistakes and become a better person as a whole!

Mid-American Conf.eligability standards are on a par with other top programs. He was not getting into Central Mich, Bowling Green or Toledo for example. Iam with you on this one Gator Growl. He was just talking out of the top of his head. Believe we have seen the last of Mr. Moody. I say about 1/2 year at Juco and then back to S. Georgia to who knows what is in store for this young man. A very sad story.
