South Paulding cornerback Ryan Ayers committed to Georgia Tech today, his high school coach Tim Glanton confirmed moments ago. It gives the Yellow Jackets their second pledge from a high-profile prospect in as many weeks.
Ayers, a speedy 5-foot-10, 175-pound rising senior, is considered the consensus top cornerback in the state. He liked Georgia Tech from the start, and even while he was receiving offers from the Georgias, Alabamas and Auburns of the college football world, had to constantly downplay the notion that the Jackets were clearly in the lead.
In the end, however, his first love won out.
Attempts to reach Ayers were not immediately successful, but Glanton, asked if his cornerback had made the commitment, e-mailed simply, “Yes.”
For the Jackets, Ayers’ commitment strengthens a 2010 class that last week was bolstered by the commitment of Jefferson County quarterback Barry Bostic, who figures to play in the secondary in college.

Welcome to the Tech family, Ryan!
This is a huge pickup for us. We have now gotten commits from a full secondary, and all from Georgia.

Al, don’t forget Safety Isaiah Johnson (Sandy Creek) who had the red carpet rolled out for him by the UGA staff just days before committing to Tech. He also had offers from the likes of Miami, Ole Miss, Ok State, NCSU, S Carolina, Stanford.
That’s two of the top DB’s in-state that have chosen CPJ and Tech over UGA in the last week.

Let me first say, this kid has lost his mind.
I would then like to say congrats to Tech for picking up a good secondary in recruiting and would like to say congrats and good luck to the kid.
Tech always lands one or two recruits Georgia is going after so this doesn’t come as that much of a shock to me.

Never seen such a bunch of punk a++ smartalecs. You guys beat UGA once in 7 years and you simply cannot handle it with any class at all. You think you are world beaters. You embarass your school, the State of Georgia, and the ACC in the bowl game you were lucky enough to play in and now you think you have a right to shoot your mouths off. Just remember 38-3 on national TV and you were lucky to get 3. I truly hope we don’t meet you guys again in a bowl game. Our 3rd team is much more competition. As a GT fan, I believe we definitely need to
1)dominate the ACC (very realistic goal). There is no school in the ACC that has taken that step forward. GT should have a huge advantage over all the teams being that we are located in the biggest metro area in the southeast. Miami and FSU have taken steps backwards. Time for GT to assert itself.
2)become more on an even keel year in and year out with the likes of UGA, LSU, and UF – the SEC folks. We need to be competitive year in and year out with these folks. This will be a much harder goal to attain, but as long as we can keep snatching up players from our home state that are up to the challenge, like Mr. Ayers, and build relationships with in state HS teams, we can do it.

Military dawg, you are an idiot! How many times does tech have to beat miami in row for you to take notice, and who cares about recruiting rankings. I didn’t see notre dame do shi* with that #1 class they had last year or top 5 from the year before. We destroyed miami last year and 3 straight. We lost to vt by 4 points on the road and thanks only to a terrible helmet to helmet call on 4th and 12 at the end of the game. We beat them by 30 the last time we were in blacksburg when johnson went off! We beat fsu last year and will do so again. They are nothing to be scared of, and we have more starters coming back than any team in the acc!! We have unc, clemson,vt and ugay at home. We should handle miami, fsu and miss st on the road, and the vandy game up there is one that i worry about. vt and unc will be solid no doubt, but if we win those home games, we will win 10 games without question! No way we lose to ugay and it may be awhile before the leghumpers see another win in this series, we are mostly sophmores and juniors! This offense will explode this season! GO JACKETS!!!!

Look the state of Georgia is full of high school football talent. GTech got a darn good football player and they should be excited, but everyone who follows Georgia footbll knows that when on player from Georgia commit, they all start rolling in. In fact it wouldnt suprise me if coach Rict alredy have secret verbals from a lot of the kids in state including Mack Brown. I like the recruiting in other places like talent rich Florida and North Carolina, Texas, Ohio etc. Thats what the emphasis was two years ago to recruit nationally. Remember when all we signed was Georgia players? From same good sources of mine Georgia is closing in on two five star d lineman one from Warner Robins Georgia and the other from Texas. They are also looking at several more offensive lineman. Both Georgia schools will be ok as far as recruiting.

Kudos to an amazing number of UGA fans who have shown tremendous class about this recruit. As for the others, both UGA and Tech, the banter continues, which frankly is not a bad thing either. After all, what’s a rivalry for? And, maybe, just maybe, one is finally arising again. Time will tell, but Tech is getting back into the hunt, for football and perhaps UGA for basketball, where Tech is sorely lagging and where the hype for recruits only masks the true issue of lack of coaching.

You North Avenue Trade school geeks crack me up. You win one game against the Dawgs in nearly 10 years (a 3 pt win nonetheless on a team decimated by injuries)…make that nearly 20 if you count the forfeited wins by NCAA infractions and now you think the sky is falling on the Dawg program. Hilarious!!!!
