Parkview’s Jacobs clarifies: ‘Still committed to Auburn’

By DARRYL MAXIE / dmaxie@ajc.com

Not so fast, says Parkview running back Brandon Jacobs.

Though he was quoted as saying he would sign with the Boston Red Sox, after being taken in the 10th round of the major league draft, Jacobs stressed moments ago that it’s hardly a done deal.

In a statement e-mailed to the AJC, lightly edited here, Jacobs had this to say:

I would like to make my status clear regarding my potential professional baseball career.

As of now, I am still committed to Auburn University until there is an agreement made with the Boston Red Sox.  As you know, all players must give a final number value before anything is done and then the organization needs to negotiate the numbers before signing. We are in the middle of negotiating with the Boston Red Sox at this time.

If we are [fortunate] to make an agreement with the Boston Red Sox, I will make my final decision at that point.

Brandon Jacobs

Reports indicated that he is expected to sign a deal between $500,000 and $800,000. Those numbers have yet to be ironed out.

Sounds like he is in negotiations between AU and the BoSox. Who ever offers the better deal wins? I’m not sure AU will pay more because he never qualified and will have to sit a year anyway.

He’s just wanting to use his football scholly as negotiating leverage. Too late! He’s already publicly admitted he’s going baseball.

He doesn’t even have a firm scholarship offer to Auburn. His current offer is for a grey shirt

Why on earth are Georgia Bulldog fans so bitter and hostile? Any time a story is posted involving another SEC school, Dawgs have to trash the other school or the athelete mentioned. What’s your problem? Does the other kid’s lollypop always seem better than yours? You have to throw sand on it so no one can enjoy it? You kids need to get off the playground and go to your rooms until you can learn to behave.

Hey My Turn, the reason we are the way we are is because we’re great. We’re just better than everybody else…we can drink more beer, we can curse our players more than you can curse them, why we even get in fights amongst ourselves a lot, all other schools cheat, we can’t play in Jax, our Athletic Director doesn’t know how to make a schedule, did I say all other schools cheat but us? Our coach is the best coach in the SEC…..it doesn’t matter that since he’s been with us, that LSU and the Gators have both won National Championships….uhhhh make that TWO National Championships EACH! But we’re the best and don’t you EVER forget it.

Gotcha. I can definitely see now that you have a LOT about which to be hostile and bitter. Understandable. Carry on. :-)

Of course “Great Dawg” is not a Dawg at all. Some of you juveniles are so simple minded, you don’t understand what it is like to be intelligent.
As for Auburn, I will always pull for another SEC team (albeit hard at times)and those mature individuals I suspect do not flame. I think there are many kids on these blogs, when they could be doing something constructive during the summer, prefer to act like, well, KIDS!!!
All you Auburn fans remember, a real and mature Dawg is not going to run your program down.

AJC is slipping. This article should be headlined, “Parkview’s Jacobs Spurns Georgia”.

Interesting how UGA was coveting Jacobs until he went with Auburn. Now the UGA fans speak poorly of him. Yeah, that’s a classy way to act.

Jacobs has a full Football Scholarship offer and we as coaches has ask him to sit a year to learn our offense.Everyone knows he could get some playing time, but why play a half of game and waste a year.

Georgia fans are equal opportunity. I remember them throwing ice and bottles at their own players in the early 1990’s.

He didn’t qualify so it looks like Boston. He lost a negotiating tool and some $$$ by not having the threat of playing ball right away.

Hey Maxie what do get paid for. You sure don’t cover recuiting worth a damn. How about an article on the elite camp Tech had over the weekend and the three players that pledge to Tech. Are too busy wiping CMR arese to get out and do your job. You are worthless. You must be a uga grad?

Most UGA fans are not posting in here, you have a few of the bad fans every team has them……

Congrats to this kid and good luck with Boston or Auburn.

What’s up with Parkview RB’s? First Caleb had trouble with grades at Parkview and now Brandon. I would think Cecil would start pushing grades for his players – maybe he doesn’t care what happens to them after the ‘view?
