The thing that really upsets me is that Bama is saying none of the players received cash for the books. Anyone who isn’t naive enough to believe in Santa knows thats exactly what they were getting. Of course that isn’t an incentive, come to Bama, use your stipend to buy extra books and turn those books into cash you can use anyway you want. Student gets a book a few bucks cheaper than bookstore sells them, player gets some walking around cash and no one can trace the cash trail, IF everyone keeps quiet.

The ncaa moves slow and it appears they will move slow in second letter. Ncaa wanted to just keep the door open with probation so next probation they can say they did not have a choice. Car for player is not easy to cover when you are in a small town ncaa moves slow but they are sure, there is a reason Saban was not signed with buy out and that He moves around so much. ncaa slowly but sure, there is a reason they are still asking question, months ago we knew the first letter would only be the start of things to come. GO DAWGS, looks like bama uses that rules for radical playbook !

The truth is that all schools have bad apples that create problems because of their inflated egos. I have no doubt that Bama willl carry the trash out and clean up the program. You are talking about one of the elite programs in the country. Yes, I am a DAWG fan for life, but the other SEC schools are like family. We can fight, but everyone else needs to stay out of it. No conference is even close to the SEC. BAMA is a classy program that will put it behind them. Some of the posts on these blogs are pathetic.

As a Bama fan, I can assure “yall” that no one in the state is happy about this….A) That it happened, B) That UA didn’t police the situation better, or C) That we are on extended probation because of it. I can tell you this though, When it came to light that this had occurred, the University (Saban, Moore, etc.) notified the NCAA and they, the NCAA, later CLEARED the offending football players to continue playing during the season. What is wrong with this picture?? If they felt like there was anything of substance to it, why allow them to continue the season? If anybody thinks the SEC is not treated differently than, say, USC, then lets place a bet on when the picture becomes clear on the Reggie Bush/ House Rent/Pay to Play situation. And for those who think they are “in the know”…Gadsden is not spelled “Gaston” and let me know when you find where Saban has EVER been involved in a recruiting scandal…you know why? He doesn’t need it. I figure the only recruits having “second thoughts” are those who might be afraid of competition, because there will be plenty of it for playing time……

Nick Saban is an incredible coach and persuader. The tide has big day’s ahead of them as the gators currently do concluding the Tebow era.

Gatorman70, good point. One thing about the Southeast is that we fight amongst ourselves without seeing that we are all being attacked by NCAA. USC and Ohio State are in a class by themselves when it comes to violations. If Alabama didn’t self-report and swept violation under the rug, you would’ve never heard about 2 of their 4 major violations.

The Ole Ball Coach is dead on. The West coast can’t win on the field against Southern teams so this is how they react. The NCAA is a bunch of ole Boys who couldn’t beat Bear then so this is their revenge.

How did the NCAA even get involved? They got their money returned. The actions of less than 1/2 % of the students should not reflect the positive actions of the rest.

Here is a position: if you are placed on probation you don’t pay your dues to the “all volunteer” NCAA until you are in their good graces again.

Better yet get rid of them until they can disseminate justice parallel to the US court system.

Just another example of the NCAAs lack of unifirm enforcement across the country. The ruling is a clear reminder that the SEC must maintain strict compliance with all NCAA regulations, but the PAC-10 (USC) don’t. It’s alright to supply luxurious housing for the momma of a USC athlete, but don’t let a SEC athlete give away FREE books to other students.
