What's the chance of you knowing what you're talking about....0. No loss of scholarships, no loss of TV games and no ban on bowl games. You have had a day to read what the penalties are and you still don't have a clue. Sad

What are the chances that this program will go through 3 years of probation without another violation and real sanctions?

How tight is the trip wire placed on this program for added violations? Any minor infractions? Excessive Boosterism?

What has Alabama been told on how far is too far over a 3 year probation period?

What are the chances that the current recruiting class will suffer from a loss of scholarships, making competitiveness difficult? What are the chances of them being impacted by loss of TV games? Loss of Bowl games?

Alabama's track record, under probation, is not good.

NCAA scorekeeper

June 11th, 2009
2:24 pm
Paul the vol,

Paul, shouldn’t you be busy wiring money to Tee Martin or other vol players. Oh, yeah. The ncaa looked into what would be an obvious major violation by a booster since she was an avowed Tennessee fan and she didn’t know Tee Martin but wired him large sums of money to help him out because he was a Tennessee football player and she just wanted to help him being a big Tennessee fan in her own words.

Of course she herself didn’t go to UT. Nevermind though the fact that her 2 sons and husband all graduated from UT. Since she herself didn’t go to UT and since she wasn’t a season ticketholder(she lives in Mobile) the NCAA cops said she didn’t “qualify” as a booster. So apparently its okay for UT fans to just wire monies to their favorite players as long as they didn’t go to UT and don’t have season tickets. That’s ok though. We all know cheating when we see it.

Or are you busy giving Vol players passing grades during the season and then changing their passing grades to the Fs they truly deserve after the season is over. Hard to believe you got away with giving 22 players on the 98 national title team passing grades and then changing those grades to failing grades after the Fiesta bowl game. Good thing the NCAA said they couldn’t tell professors how to grade their students. That’s okay though. Its on record and the rest of us know cheating when we see it.
*************************************************************************************************************
My only guess to figure out the ncaa's inconsistencies is that they are on the take themselves.

I am not into conspiracies. I just don't see any other explanation into their inconsistent rulings.

With my limited knowledge of the situation, I have no problem with the limitations. The current coaching staff had nothing to do with the infractions. In too many cases, schools are punished and the true instigator, the coach, moves on to other jobs. Watch what happens to Memphis and then the coach at UK. He created the problems; punish him. I have little trust for the NCAA. Alabama is a classy program that will put that situation behind them. No need to talk trash. It serves no purpose.

Does it go far enough? Is this something that the people who actually did the wrong doing even care about? No. So how could it be any real punishment at all. Some of those people live in their own little world over there. They will never change.

Not sure what you mean about self reporting after being turned in or if you're just being facetious. No one turned Bama in because no one knew except the university itself when it self discovered the problem.

12 out of 14 teams cheated, yet no scholarship losses. It wasn't lack of institutional control, it was what the institution does regularly.

Joe Fan,

We didn't get into much trouble because we discovered the problem, self reported, corrected the problem which was the way textbooks were being disburses, and then punished the offenders. We did it the way the NCAA wants it to be done. Its not as if the school was actively cheating. The school did nothing wrong. Bama just didn't do a good job of monitoring how books were disbursed, some of the athletes discovered it and started gaming the system so that they could help out friends, girlfriends, etc. with book costs. Its not as if boosters were handing out $100 handshakes and crap like that.

And the vast majority of the violations were unintentional. Athletes were getting supplemental materials for courses that were recommended by professors but not required.

The NCAA rules stipulate that athletes can only get absolutely necessary "required" materials for the class but not supplemental "recommended" materials that the professor recommends but is not required. It would be like a student getting a copy of Moby Dick for an English Lit class that the professor recommends for the class but does not require. This constituted the overwhelming number of violations.

WTF??? AKA-ENFORCER,

I have to admit that even though you are getting in some digs on my Tide I am still enjoying your posts. Some of them are pretty funny even if you do dog the tide so to speak. Are you going after your record today? You may only have 2,713 more posts to go. I had my one lengthy diatribe and I'll but I'm keeping this one short.

KD,

We don't lose any tv rights. We really don't loose anything except that we have to vacate some wins for the games when these dumbazz players were gaming the textbook season. Personally I would like to hang by the gonads the players who were intentionally gaming the textbook system but that's just me.

When is the NCAA going to take the needed step and shut down schools that are repeat offenders? What a message that would send to schools. I thought if Alabama got in trouble abgain the football program would be subject to the "death penalty" ? Guess money wags the tail.

Where's the punishment, losing games from the past does not hurt the football program today. No scholarship losses ? WOW, they will really be hurting over the next few years. I haven't heard if they will be losing any TV rights, can anybody help me out on this one.

Let me rephrase, if my son or daughter were athletically gifted enough to earn a scholarship to UGA or any other major university I would be estatic. But if it's education you want I want them to go private. Unless it's Vandy, good school.

Not attending (or working for) the college doesn't mean you're not a true fan. It does mean that you really don't know what the school is about. Game day on campus doesn't give you a feel for what the school is really like.

They penalize the SEC because we keep beating the brakes off OSU in the big game. You know how they love those Suckeyes.

UGA class of 04.

Curious if they only penalize SEC teams to try and make it fair for other conferences. If they take away our scholarships other schools have a better shot. It would allow them to catch up in a way. It just doesnt make sense when the SEC is their money maker
