Iowa is leading in the recruiting hunt for Lassiter quarterback Hutson Mason because the 6-foot-2, 190-pound rising senior is impressed by the way the coaches there get the most out of their players.
“Out of all the coaching staffs, the thing I like about Coach [Kirk] Ferentz is the way he develops the 2-star and 3-star recruits,” Mason told the AJC while attending the Football University camp last weekend in Stockbridge. “They don’t get a lot of fours and fives [stars], but you always hear about their draft picks going in the first or second round [of the NFL draft]. That’s the biggest thing. That tells you about their coaches.”
The fans in Iowa City also have Mason’s attention, even from a distance.
“I haven’t been up there yet, but I hear Iowa football fans are insane,” he said.
While Iowa is No. 1 for Mason, he said interest has “picked up” from Georgia, Alabama, Indiana, Purdue, North Carolina, N.C. State and Troy.

We (Iowa Fans) love our team and support them all year round. Coach Ferentz is a great coach and we’d love Lassiter to come to Iowa!

As a dawg fan I have to admit Iowa has a good following. As I was heading to the outback bowl in 2005 I saw a lot of Iowa fans on the road. I believe they beat LSU. That had to be one long butt road trip.

An Iowa-Georgia matchup would sure be a fun game.
I love Athens and really like watching the Bulldogs.
Besides, we’re kind of bored beating South Carolina, L.S.U and Florida – need another “too-fast for a Big 10 team” SEC team to dismantle!
: – )
Good luck next season, Dawgs.

Iowa has had some success recruiting out of Florida but Georgia is almost non exsistent. It just does not happen! If he were to become a hawkeye that would be phenominal.I personally would much rather have seen a Georgia/Iowa bowl game than what we got from that team in South Carolina. They were pathetic!

A Home & Away series between the Hawks and the Dawgs would be great. Iowa fans would treat it like a bowl game after the summer drought for sports.
We love hearing other parts of the country recognize Ferentz & coaching staff for the development of players. The nicest thing about Iowa Football is the family atmostphere. From the coaches, players, students, to the fans, from an alum/fan standpoint, we are more concerned about the effort and performance of the kids verses the bottom line win/loss record (given it is not 3-9 or consently 5-7, we are not Northwestern, lol). Good example is last year, lots of fans would not have traded our 9-4 record with Shonn Greene, watching Rickie Stanzi develop, winning the PSU game, and a bowl, for PSU’s one loss and the Rose Bowl.
Hutson, we need a good QB this year and if you want to sit behind one of the nation’s top OL year in and out, with the addition of Soup Campbell, throw to quality WRs and TEs, and be supported by a great running game, and, finally, get good education to take you beyond football, COME TO IOWA.

That would be interesting Bookie – I don’t think Georgia’s lost to a Big 10 team since (I think) Michigan in 1956.

Georgia is one team I’ve always wanted to see the Hawks play. Not saying we’d have won any particular matchup or that we’d win a bowl with Georgia this year, but I know both teams historically show up for their bowl game, even in lower tier bowls. It would be a heckuva football game. It would be the kind of game there is no shame in losing, but lots of fun to win.
