Bennett hopes for ‘dream offer’ from Dogs

By DARRYL MAXIE / dmaxie@ajc.com

Alpharetta receiver Michael Bennett, perhaps one of the more underrated prospects in the nation according to some recruiting experts, will participate in a camp Saturday at Georgia. The Bulldogs would be a “dream offer” for the 6-foot-3, 186-pound rising senior, but given the way interest in him has soared in the last month, wouldn’t be a surprise.

Bennett has received 11 offers in the last month, the most recent coming from Syracuse. Wisconsin is one of the major programs to offer him as well.

“I was just looking for my first offer,” he told rivals.com. “I saw all of these other guys getting them and I thought, I’m just as good as those guys.”

Two other schools that he would consider dream offers are Michigan State, where his dad went to school, and Florida. He has visited Florida already, plans to visit Michigan State next month and may try to squeeze a visit to Vanderbilt in between on June 20.

How can a dawg fan be first? Another receiver would be good, but great def. players are needed also.

It is always nice when young men want to play football for CMR and the Dawgs, Certainly, this individual has talent or he would not have been offered by these other schools. The question that will probably determine whether or not he receives and offer from UGA is whether or not he is as good as the receivers we have already offered and stand some chance of getting their commitment.
Good luck Michael. Make a good showing Saturday and wherever you end up, I am sure they will offer a good education and have a fine young man to boot.

Darryl, It must be nice to have job where you do not have to do your own work. All you ever do is read rivals and rewrite their articles.

Its your dream to play in front of 10000 UGA Alumni and 80000 ignorant rednecks? Poor kid, he probably scored a 720 on the SAT like the rest of the UGA football team. BUT…thats probably better than 99% of the sidewalk trailor trash fans could do.

Kyle,
You are obviously a terrible person and sound incredibly ignorant in your comments. “trailor”…I am not familiar with this word. Idiot.
Don’t be jealous of our football program.

Or should I say, Einstein. You must have scored 700 or your SAT, if you even took it at all.

Grow up a bit and then you can come back and play.

Good day.

Hey AJC – Why do you always headline your articles like “Montana’s son spurns UGA? Why not just say “Montana chooses Washington” and then point out that he chose them over a dozen schools including Notre Dame, LSU, UGA, Alabama, etc.? I know it’s catchy to sensationalize your articles, but it’s not fair to UGA. Actually, the word “spurn” really doesn’t fit any school that he considered. I think it’s an honor when a recruit has a school on his list.

Hey AJC – Why did you shorten the original headline, “Montana’s Son Spurns, Disses and Demoralizes UGA Before Calling Them a Buncha’ Necks”, to just “Montana’s Son Spurns UGA”?

I smell buttsniffer bias.

When’s the last time you heard of a prospect awaiting a “dream offer” from Georgia Tech? I think that’s the source of Kyle’s frustration. Honestly, I’d say only a handful of their eventual signees had Georgia Tech as a first choice. Most of them are settling because that “dream offer” didn’t come. Sad but oh so true.

And the funny thing is “Kyle”, that UGA has the highest gpa for atheletics in the SEC. But you’re such a genius I bet you looked that up already before you even made those comments, at least that would have been the smart thing to do…………

Kyle is a good inspiration for parents to have Bunk beds! GO DAWGS!

We do need to concentrate on the defensive front. I’m not surprised about Montana’s choice. SEC country is a far way off from the family. It did not make sense for him to go to an SEC school even though the exposure would have been great for him. I wish him the best.

Kyle must not be more than say 20 years old. If he were older, he would know that Tech rednecks, Salisbury, Mooney and Lavin assaulted a small girl where the Tech Motel was on N Avenue at I-85. When they did that
(beat her up badly) it was by then in the 90s, a pizza joint, to be precisely accurate. This incident pre dated the current Oylmpic dorms that were later built at that site. Anyway …….. those guys were huge football players and they beat the girl, her boy friend and an off duty cop badly and she had to have major restorative surgery. Any tech grad knows this to be true and just shameful. When UGA guys fight, which is often, they usually fight local reds in Athens bars or more UG football players …….all the same size and gender.

Ga. Tech fans …………..you should forever be ashamed, especially with Reuben Houston dealing drugs on campus and that addict QB Joey Hamilton and the rapist of two frosh classes ago ………..not to mention Eddy Lee Ivory, Tech’s all time great ……..that did 10-20 for rape in Green Bay Wisconsin. Ivory ran for like 450 yds vs Air Froce in the late 70s. Good player and was probably a starter on the ALl Wisconsin Prison team.

Now, Tech, just keep it all about football going forward or I will write some more history for you all. Yes, UGA guys get in fights and they kick garabage cans at St Mary’s Hospital but slugging and disfiguring itty bitty girls??? I think not.

Huh?

Just well rounded student-athletes of exceptional character that have to take calculus shards. You know the drill…

The Techies can sweep things under the rug better than anyone. I had no idea about this incident. Well done Techies.

Since when is a top notch receiver ever going to list GT as a “dream offer”? Go back up to NJ and get yourself some more option players that are too slow and too small to play in the SEC!!Signing up to plat Kansas the next two years? was Gardener Webb not available?

Hart Co. I graduated HCHS in 1987, the year Bobby Pate returned to build the program that we are so proud of now. How ’bout you? I hope CMR and the Dawgs offer the kid because he wants to play for UGA and he obviuosly has some talent since he’s being offered by other major programs, even though they are not necessarily top-tier programs. Either way, I hope he takes advantage of an opportunity that few kids get – to have their full college education paid for. I do hope we are really going after some defensive players though, especially ends! Go Dawgs! Wreck Tech!

Regarding the “pizza brawl” the tragic aspect of this was that these guys didn’t get the slightest punishment for that incident. Tech was in the hunt for the NC that year and Bobby Ross didn’t so much as tap them on the wrist. I do believe that incident occurred on a Wednesday or Thursday night and those thugs played that Saturday. The girl weighed all of 100lbs. I remember that incident well.

Hart Co, I lived in Hartwell for 17 years, long enough to graduate from HCHS. I went into the military for a short tour, came back to Hartwell and went to a college that UGA plays at the end of the schedule each year :) . After graduating I started working in the wireless industry which took me from Hartwell to VA and I currently work for the largest wireless carrier in the world. I still have family in Hartwell and I visit a lot, I’m glad to see the lake is back up to a respectable level.
PunishEmDawg, I graduated in 1991, I played football all four years and we were pretty good, if you are a real Dog fan you remember my nephew TC #85.
