Gainesville safety Daunte Carr went to the Football University invitation-only camp in Stockbridge this past weekend to lead, not follow. “To beat everyone out,” he said. “To be the rabbit, so that everybody can chase me.”
Carr, a 6-foot-1, 188-pound rising senior, was talking about other defensive back prospects chasing him, not the host of schools in hot pursuit. He’s narrowing that list and told the AJC is down to four: UCLA, Stanford, Wake Forest and N.C. State. All things academic being equal, which would he choose?
“For one thing, all education’s not equal,” he said. “Stanford’s on a pedestal because their academics are so high. Each [school] has something special about it that stands out. Athletically, all of them are on the rise.”
Carr plans to attend camps at all four schools “just to get familiar with the coaches,” he said. “I want to see how the coaches coach. That plays a big part in your decision. Wherever I go, I’m going there for four years. If you don’t like the coach, it’s going to be a pretty tough thing.”
The camp helped him broaden his skills. “I’m a safety, so I’m trying to learn all this cornerback stuff,” he said. “Safeties can easily go to corners and corners can go to safeties. I’ll take anything I can get to make me better.”

Daunte hasn’t even played a down of football at Gainesville. He’s a Buford transfer who lives in Dekalb County. It’s never been about academics, it’s about the best path to the NFL. That’s the goal. Are his acedemics even up to Stanford or Wake standards? I don’t know.

This Gainesville team is really loaded with D-1 prospects at just about every position. I can’t wait to see them play this season.

George comments ar way off. Absolutley the finest man I have come across in my many dealings with high school football players across the country. Daunte was the best leader in the FBU camp this weekin a group that included over 20 juinior D-1 prospects already with offers. As far as rades go I know he has qualified for three of the four schools listed and is only points away from being eligible for ALL schools that have shown interest including IVY League. As far as where he goes to school. If it were my kid I would put him in the best opportuniy for him to get an education (for a degree) not NFL. And to my knowledge that is what Mr.Carr has done.

I like the way this young man approaches the issue. George…if Stanford has offered or is about to offer, they feel satisfied with his grades and scores. They are not going to waste time on anyone who may not have a chance to qualify.

I agree with Paddy, the way this young man approaches this and many issues are very impressive. Took the time to do some digging and discovered in many media posting (Rivals, Scout, Espn, etc.) this young man is very clear in his thought process of what and how to approach and deal with the recruiting process and where he things he may fit in regards to attending a college for the next four to five years. Spoke to contacts in Buford, Gainesville, Stone Mountain, South Gwinnett and everyone is saying the same thing that this kid has good morals, values and character on and off the field and plays the game of football very well. Look like the many offers he has are across the board, from schools that are strictly football minded to schools of high academic standards like Stanford, Duke, and Wake Forest. Like Erik said Go and get that Degree & Education, if he is good at the next level it wouldn’t matter where he goes to school, the league will find you

Can’t let you dog my man like that George – I am a close family friend and Daunte is a good kid from the time I coached him @ Central Dekalb to the present, where he returns frequently to Stone Mountain and Snellville to work with and mentor the youth in the community. The kid also attends leadership programs and officiates youth basketball in his off time in Gwinnett County. I know for a fact that he was just scheduled to address Wynbrooke Elementary (Crossing Guards, 4-H Club, and Honor Students) the last week of school but his AP finals caused scheduling conflict along with Spring Football Practice. Many kids look up to him and its not only because he is good in Football Player and Track but he his a better person and preaches that everything he has is because of god, hard work, burning desire to succeed, being obedient and the importance of school – put the time into school now or you will pay later he preaches – never heard Daunte preach about going to the NFL / Academically he will be taken AP Euro History, AP Calculus, English V, Honors Econ. next year when most seniors will be coasting their last year in school

It appears to me that this kid is being coached on the field as well as off the field in the game of life. Stay focus and go get yours! Education first, which will always be with you – Football second, which one day it will come to an end

D-Dawg is a typical UGA fan! I’m sure that D- Dawg is an expert on football, as ALL the other UGA fans……. Jeez.
I’m wondering why the Jackets are not in the loop on this kid. He seems to have his head together. Information would be good, unless of course you are a Dawg fan and you make it up..
