Richt and Meyer unlikely allies, but it’s true

This just in: Mark Richt and Urban Meyer agree. No, this isn’t about where to play the Georgia-Florida game.
This is about SEC rules that have no counterpart in the ACC rules. The SEC doesn’t allow assistant football coaches to attend coaching clinics in their home states unless the coach is a speaker. The ACC has no such restriction.
According to Richt and Meyer: Advantage, ACC.
Onlineathens.com and Yahoo Sports both had entries about this, from the SEC spring meeting in Destin, Fla.
“Any time there’s a function, especially a gathering of high school coaches, we want the same access of everybody else in the country and everybody else in our state, especially,” Richt said. “We don’t want to have a function going on in our state and our rivals can go and we can’t. That’s not good at all. That doesn’t help the Southeastern Conference. It doesn’t help Georgia.”
Meyer has the same issue with the ACC’s Florida State.
“You hate to have an ACC school get there and an SEC school can’t,” Meyer said.
“It happens enough to where it could be an issue,” Richt said. “All the high school coaches, they don’t know our rules and they don’t probably care about our rules. All they know is they go to a function and everybody in the ACC is there. Georgia Tech is there and Georgia’s not. That’s not a good thing.”

Yeah, it’s easy to have back to back #1 recruiting classes when you offer 30 scholarships every year. Check out the number of those athletes that actually get admitted and then compile a ranking. Bama wouldn’t be #1.

I know Alabama claims 12 NC and 21 SEC titles, on the other hand if you check the NCAA stats you will find out that Alabama has committed the most violations! far more than anybody else and to be honest with you I don’t think any of their championships was achieved without a violation. on my mind they are cheaters with 0 title!! sorry Bama that is the truth, and I welcome any debate!

I can’t debate everybody on here just because Bama Stan inflamed everyone but I will take an issue with your point that Bama has more violations than anyone. Out of our 9 legit national titles (4 consensus, 5 split) I’ve never heard any reasonably intelligent person say that we got all of them through cheating. What are you going to do? Go back to the 1960s and 70s and unearth all this proof of cheating? You have zero proof. If you can prove all or even a single national title was won with cheating I’ll give you 5k. All you have to do is prove it.
Secondly, Alabama has had 2 majors infractions cases brought against it with both in the 90s and the 2nd set of penalties handed down in 2002. I won’t mention any names but there are 2 major SEC programs whose fans are all over this blog who are tied for 3rd with several other programs with 6 major infractions cases against them. Those are the facts and this is verified with the NCAA.

It hasn’t been that long since La Monroe bamers so don’t get high and mighty on us after one win over UGA and Auburn. You did well in a down year in the SEC west but Florida and Utah are still scoring at will on you which shows you will start over this year with a rookie quarterback after losing alot of starters!

Tide Rising – good rational post. I think UA will do good this year, but not totally due to great players and great coaches. I saw where you have 7 games at home. 7!! You also play one game on a neutral field (GA Dome). You play Auburn away, but I don’t know what to expect from them this year. That leaves three other road games – Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. Not exactly scary road trips.
I always felt Saban’s effect on the program would be seen in year 3 or 4, but you lost a lot of experience from last year, so I’m now leaning towards year 4. Not trying to tick you off, but your schedule this year is really in your favor.
I do wish we could play again this year. No smack talk about “payback” and junk like that. Simply put, I would like to play Bama every year.

If Natty Light advertised 10 times more than Sam Adams and in places where SA couldn’t advertise, I still wouldn’t pick that crap over a Sam Adams. I get the point that Richt and Meyer are trying to make, but they’re conceding at least some equality and I know that’s a hard pill for some SEC fans to swallow.

you guys… you are all such ingrates you are an embarrassment to each school you so call represent. I’m a DAWG, bathed in the blood of the lamb… er’ Uga. But I also have enough class to honor “Bama long standing accomplishments. Classy program with classy fans, mostly. You guys who sit here and trade barbs do so behind the scenes with fake names… sings of a coward,something your revered “Bear” would have never stood for. Likewise, who could argue with teh accomplishments of UF in the last 20 years, any dawg would beg for that record. Can’t argue much for Tech (sorry nerds), but you’ve not accomplished much all the while enduring a academic scandal larger than the one Harrick put us through at UGA, then fail the academic progress report.
So here’s the bottom line, we’re all great schools. And great programs. Under CMR no school has won mmore SEC games, out of conference games, only Pete Carrol & Bob Stoops have won more games (at a real school Urban… Utah doesn’t count) has a better road record or higher average season ending finish. Sure, we lack a BCS Title. But we’ll get that, don’t worry. All you gotta do is stay close and be a little lucky. You might have read Barnhardt’s column reporting the pure luck that has won both UF’s titles (getting into the game) as well as LSU’s jump from 7th to 2nd while losing their last 2 games of the regular season. All the while UGA sat at 3rd, the two teams ahead loose and UGA slides backwards into 5th, being jumped by LSU… go figure. Who cares, no excuses.
Just shut up, sit back and enjoy the greatest d*^n game on the face of the earth! College football… better yet, college football in the SEC! Just 3 months away!
