Georgia Tech basketball coach Paul Hewitt is pleased with his recruiting class, and especially the way the Yellow Jackets landed 6-11 center Daniel Miller, the final addition last month. Because archrival Georgia completely released Miller from the letter of intent he signed with the Bulldogs last November, Miller was able to sign with the Yellow Jackets and doesn’t have to sit out a season.
“The last one we got was honestly a gift,” Hewitt told jacketsonline.com. “I told people I cannot say anything bad about Georgia for a least a month because we got Daniel Miller. To have him at the end has been a very positive thing for us.”
Of course, South Atlanta High star Derrick Favors was the highlight among the six players signed by Tech, which limped to a 12-19 finish last season. But Miller proved to be satisfying because it had seemed the Jackets had pursued him in vain.
Also, the Jackets may have football receiver Stephen Hill available. Tech football coach Paul Johnson gave Hill his blessing to play once his duties for the football team are discharged.

IT APPEARS TO ME THAT TECH HAS BECOME TOO WEALTHY IN THIS RECRUITING CLASS SO I AM IMPLEMENTING A TAX ON HEWITT AND COMPANY. HE MUST GIVE UP TWO OF THE INCOMING PLAYERS AS A TAX ON THE WEALTHY AND GIVE THEM TO THE MORE UNFORTUNATE TEAMS IN THE STATE. WATCH OUT

What is Hewitt going to say? He is the Jim Donnan of college basketball. Look at the talent that he has wasted at Gtu. If Daniel Mille is so good, why didn’t he get a scholly, Paul? Jeez. That guy pulled the wool over the Gtu administration and now he is basking in the fact that he doesn’t have to work a minute and still gets paid.

I’m willing to bet Hill would be one of those players that could be a greate 4-year college baskteball player. He’s just a pure athlete. I hope he gets on the court, it will only make him better at football.

I like the class, but how long will they stay? It is the problem with getting the great highschool players, they stay for one or two years and then they leave. Would it be better to get lesser players who will stay 4 years?

Gawh, there are some hateful folks on here, I just hope Tech basketball has a really great year. It’s so much more fun in my life when they can compete in the ACC and get deep into the tournament. It just just makes Februgly and March a whole lot more fun.

Wait a minute!! How did Miller get accepted at Tech?? All I ever hear from most of the yellow jacket mob is that georgia gets the dumb athletes while the yellow jackets get the smart ones. I guess he took “calculus” in high school. Just another needle in the “academic superiority” baloon. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Ya’ll are missing the point here. Hewitt’s job is on the line, though no one wants to talk about that. So these recruits are really “gifts” from Basketball Nirvana, not from the dog pile. Let’s just hope they have common sense make the grades, and stay for more than one season.
Now tell me EXACTLY how many former Dogs played in the NBA..bet you could count them on one hand.

Hey Darryl, I don’t know how close you are to the program, but I was wondering if you had an opinion on a couple of things.
Are there any rumors as to how high Lawal would have to be picked for him to turn pro? Would he go if he were a low first round pick?
Do you have a projected starting five? And who would be the top 3 off the bench?
Will D’Andre Bell be back better than ever? He could be vital in that veteran swing-man role.
We seem to have plenty of PF types, but who will settle in as the primary center and SF? Sheehan and Miller will provide depth in the hole, but won’t start, and who all has the range to play 3? I’m wondering if we will see alot of 3 guard, 2 PF or 2 guard, 3 PF lineups.

Instead of Donnan, Paul Hewitt reminds me more of Mark Richt. (Although that may give Donnan more credit than he deserves.) Like Richt, Hewitt gets great talent to the team, TRIES to threaten the other teams in the conference but falls short pretty much every year (except for once). Stafford/Moreno = Javaris Crittenton/Thaddeus Lewis. The only problem is that the shelf life on a good basketball player is one season. At least Richt gets a 3 year commitment….

If Lawal does enter the draft, like I stated on here 4 months ago. GT Hoops will be .500 or worse next year. Hewitt never gets players to stay that extra year.
I would say Hewitt is the Chan Gailey of Hoops, but Chan had 6 strait winning seasons and a winning record at Tech. Hewitt has neither.

Great recruiting class Paul. Maybe some of the non-ballers on this blog will understand that it takes several factors to win the ACC. No we don’t get the same recruits N. Carolina and Duke get nationally. Fire Hewitt? Stupid thinking! Let’s get a team of good players before we send a good coach packing!

Big deal. Mark Fox will have tremendous success at Georgia and “Tech” has not been any kind of distraction lately until Favors came along (who will be gone to the NBA after one season. Anyone who thinks he is going to hang around longer is a deluded moron). Rest assured, the LAST team that anyone at UGA is worried about is Georgia Tech. Georgia’s focus is on getting back to the NCAA tourney, and that can be done by at least getting to .500 or better with the SEC schedule. Mark Fox will not only do that, but he will recruit many talented players who want to take advantage of the new basketball facilities at UGA (the ones that will help lead many of his players to an NBA opportunity).
This “Daniel Miller” fire is out. Quit trying to fan a spark when there is none. No one cares! Maybe Hewitt should focus on trying to win a game in Athens (which has not been done in 40 years!)

Unless a Jarret Jack-type comes forward to lead them, these Jackets will be underachievers.
Not a rhetorical question: does anyone see that kind of competitive leadership on Tech’s horizon? It’s certainly not coming from Hewitt.
