1 in 8 is, as of now, a reality…deal with it until you prove you can win two in a row…and that won’t be a reality any time soon…that is what is obvious.

Actually Jethro, I’m not slow. I was just commenting on what you said. You said that GT SAs don’t get an offer until they have “already taken the necessary college prep courses like calculus”. That would mean they would get no commitments because they couldn’t offer a kid a scholarship until well after signing day. Now that you realize that you are wrong, you are trying to change what you said.
By the way, if you are a sidewalk fan like you said, why do you care about GT academics?

all I am trying to get Tech fans to admit is that both of the schools create special environments for their athletes. Both have thngs to be proud of about their schools, and bith have things that need improving

Georgia was number 1 on the apr test. We had a higher score than any team in the SEC. UGA actually makes their football players go to class.

Captain, you should really stick to selling life insurance to elderly widows in Lithia Springs….after all, they’ll believe everything you tell ‘em.

Tech did have probation for improper certification of student-athletes and lost scholarships, but no games (unlike UGA’s hoops team…..that’s the difference actual ACADEMIC FRAUD and UNETHICAL CONDUCT will get you.)

Anthony Barnes reported to preseason camp in August 2005 but suffered a knee injury in the opening days of practice. Then, the NCAA clearinghouse flagged a course that he had transferred into Cartersville HS from a previous school and decided that it shouldn’t have counted. So, he left campus (before classes started) and went back to Cartersville to take the course he needed and rehab. Since he hadn’t started classes he didn’t have to take ‘05 as a rs year.

Yes, Lewis Clinch missed part of a season twice……one for grades, one for honor code violations (oh, if GT only had a Hoops 101 class).

Also, you do realize that Tech fought to keep Reuben Houston off the football team while charged, right? After they had appealed the Fulton Co Superior Court judge’s ruling TWICE, they reinstated him….and allowed him to practice/play on the advice of counsel. Would the judge have ruled differently for a dawg? I dunno…..a Cobb Co judge gave a UGA player with two felony charges “pre-trial diversion” several years back (I think he missed a bowl game for it).

Techies are jealous as they are the second rated school and team to UGA. If it were not so, the AJC would be covering Tech and watching more closely for who is admitted and who is not in Atlanta. UGA is news and Tech is not. It must hurt their pride everytime they pick up the home town paper and read about UGA (Georgia’s Flagship University).

I didn’t think the helmets would fit on their heads with their gigantic brains.
They should probably tell the rest of the school, ya know so they could sell out their stadium!

Again, why are other teams’ fans posting on UGA blogs? It makes your team look pathetic. You seem to be hung up on UGA. Why are you so desperate to see problems with UGA? Stick to your sites. In terms of glorifying supposed shortcomings of kids is truly pathetic. I hope the all of the kids qualify because a college education will change their life. That hope goes for all schools. Stop all the stupid comments in a silly attempt to seem cool. Your not.

Tech fans are a little delusional about their acceptance policies for athletes. They are not in the same “Tech” as the general population. They’d never be able to field an ACC team if they were.
Im saying you have a good school, so don’t get all defensive. my god, just listen to Ryan Stewart on 790 the Zone. No way that guy could get a job as a janitor at Tech with his lack of knowledge outside of being a defensive back and hip hop. He supposedly has a degree.

You tech fans can’t even fill a 56,000 seat staduim so you get on here and talk crap about academics. Hilarious. I don’t know if its the seven years of pent up aggression that you finally get to let out or the fact that you went to a school that has one of the worst male to female ratios in the country. “With about twice as many male students as females, Georgia Tech has one of the most unbalanced male-to-female ratios of any co-ed university”. I think I like this quote even more “In 2002, the Princeton Review ranked Tech No. 2 on its list of colleges and universities with the “least happy students”. HAHAHAHA. I get it now, I got to go to a great school with beautiful women and cheer with a packed 90,000 plus seat stadium for a great football team. And you are unhappy, can’t even fill your piece of s*** stadium, and probably gay from having to look at men, or women who look like men, the whole four years you were at tech. I understand now.

Jethro, I’ll bet Darryl Richard heard the cash register ring when he “slammed Fatty Stafford to the turf”, didn’t he? Stafford’s “fat” wallet will surely cushion the slamming he’s bound to get with the Lions. “Fatty Stafford” lit your secondary up! Your DBs couldn’t cover and our DBs couldn’t tackle.

Big deal! 45-42…7 years of frustration and all you could muster was a 3 point win, some celebratory rings, and an eventual smackdown by another SEC team that UGA had beaten earlier in the year. Bitter sweet isn’t it?!?

AJC article from Dec 08 on SATs

AJC investigation: Many athletes lag far behind on SAT scores
By MIKE KNOBLER

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Sunday, December 28, 2008
Football and men’s basketball players on the nation’s big-time college teams averaged hundreds of points lower on their SATs than their classmates, and some of the gaps are so large they call into question the lengths to which schools will go to win.

The biggest gap between football players and students as a whole occurred at the University of Florida, where players scored 346 points lower than the school’s overall student body. That’s larger than the difference in scores between typical students at the University of Georgia and Harvard University.

FOOTBALL SAT SCORES:
THE TOP 10
School, Average
Georgia Tech, 1028
Oregon State, 997
Michigan, 997
Virginia, 993
Purdue, 974
Indiana, 973
Hawaii, 968
California, 967
Colorado, 966
Iowa, 964
THE BOTTOM 10
School, Average
Oklahoma State, 878
Louisville, 878
Memphis, 890
Florida, 890
Texas Tech, 901
Arkansas, 910
Texas A&M, 911
Mississippi State, 911
Washington State, 916
Michigan State, 917
Nationwide, football players average 220 points lower on the SAT than their classmates — and men’s basketball players average seven points less than football players.

Those figures come from an Atlanta Journal-Constitution study of 54 public universities, including the members of the six major Bowl Championship Series conferences and other schools whose teams finished the 2007-08 season ranked among the football or men’s basketball top 25.

While it’s commonly known that admission standards are different for athletes, the AJC study quantifies how wide the gap is between athletes and the general student body at major universities.

Georgia Tech’s football players had the nation’s best average SAT score, 1028 of a possible 1600, and best average high school GPA, 3.39 of a possible 4.0 in the core curriculum. But Tech’s football players still scored 315 SAT points lower on average than their classmates.

At the University of Georgia, the average football SAT was 949, which is 239 points behind the average for an undergraduate student at Georgia — and 79 points behind Tech’s football average. The Bulldogs’ average high school GPA was 2.77, or 45th out of 53 teams for which football GPAs were available. Their SAT average ranked them 22nd.

Nationwide, coaches who would never offer a scholarship to a player who was 6 inches shorter or half a second slower than other prospects routinely recruit players whose standardized test scores suggest they’re at a competitive disadvantage in the classroom.
