Georgia still waiting for good reports

By DARRYL MAXIE / dmaxie@ajc.com

Even as they’re getting good news about three signees qualifying academically, the Georgia Bulldogs and their fans are still sweating out news about Washaun Ealey and a couple other signees.

Ugasports.com is reporting that Ealey, the ECI record-setting running back, North Cobb defensive end Derrick Lott and Early County safety Shawn Williams are on the list of signees who haven’t made the grade yet. Jordan Love, rivals.com’s No. 1-ranked cornerback in Virginia, defensive end Montez Robinson and wide receiver Marlon Brown have qualified, according to the site.

Ole Ball Coach, Tech doesn’t make an offer to an SA unless they are very certain they can make it at GT. All athletes must have already taken the necessary college prep courses like calculus before “the hill” will let the coaches extend the offer. There are a few exceptions made but it’s fairly rare.

This is one reason why it’s more difficult to recruit at GT. Football factories like georgie just take them as they come and let the NCAA worry about whether they qualify or not.

Tom

The real kicker?……

Every year, it’s the same tune……waiting for several signees to qualify. Most make it, but one to a few don’t. Some get their name pinned to their shirts and get shipped off to Hargrave for a brain transplant….some transplants take, some don’t.

Yet, with these marginal students in each class, they get to UGA and get in the curriculum (Consumer Ec, Housing, etc…) and end up with the highest APR in the SEC (and higher than GT’s).

Speaks volumes, don’t it?

matt,
uga got two or three articles revolving around the once in a lifetime occurance of a uga recruit graduting at the top of his class or at least second. Kudo’s to the young man! I even tried to find a way to discount it by saying that his school was substandard, but it appears that Troup co is a pretty decent High School. Congrats. I will at least point out he is a lineman and they tend to be smarter than most. Yes I was a HS lineman.

Matt, haven’t you learned anything about news? It has to be either bad or really really good to make the news. Just being normal is not news worthy and even good news isn’t that newsworthy. I think the story with regard to the Troup Co kid even had a negative slant to it with regard to cmr or the NCAA depending on how you read it or it was spun.

With regard to lsufan and tide…I don’t believe for a minute that you aren’t really uga fans cloaking yourself so you can make a comment about Tech. You are probably the ones that were on the Tech blogs over the past few years talking trash. You lost this year. Get over it and take it like you have given it out for the last seven years. See, I can say it. “seven years.” So what, we won this year in almost everything save the last baseball game.

It is history and to pretend that you didn’t dish it out on Tech fans everytime you got a chance is only to lie to yourself. I notice that even a uga fan wouldn’t cloak as a Florida Fan. guess you have your own inferiority complex? How sad and pathetic?

By the way, you will lose again this year to Tech.

New article, same psycho-babble between uga and tech fans. So what, a couple kids are on the fence with their grades, happens every year at every school. We all know that the coaches and the football program will find a way to get them on the field, they always do. This isn’t a UGA vs. Tech issue, Tech has the same things come up, just happens with two and three star recruits instead of four or five star recruits like at UGA so it’s not as big of a story.

Dang….haven’t been to the Flora-Bama in years (since the last time it was renovated by Mother Nature, anyway!)

Tech uses a higher GPA/score scale than the NCAA (admissions adjusts it on a whim, it used to be about 955 on the SAT…..and exceptions were rare) and has for many years used a total of 16 core courses (including 4 yrs of math) on the core GPA requirement.

Over the past 3 years the NCAA has raised to course requirement from 14 to 16, but still only 3 yrs of math. In that regard, at least the NCAA minimums have gotten closer to Tech’s. Stanford is one of a very few major programs that are actually tighter/less-flexible on athletic admissions than Tech.

The real travesty is that way too many unqualified persons (please don’t call them students) are allowed in all of the colleges merely because they can dribble or run with a ball, unfortunately at the expense of others who have worked hard in the classroom in a futile effort to get into the same school. I love college sports, but abhor the gladiator mentality and greed of the schools, not to mention the ever-hypocritical NCAA. The easiest course an SA can take at GT is management. Every course at GT requires Calc I & II their freshman year. I know, foreign concept to may on this blog. There are NO specially created majors for SA’s.

So when you see a guy like Darryl Richard, a 6-4 300lb big ugly DT, you should have the utmost respect for his accomplishments as he received his undergraduate in 3 years then his Masters in another 2. He capped that off by slamming Fatty Stafford to the turf in Athens last year.

Babababababababababa…when you are 1st, 1st and 4th, you aren’t second overall to anyone by much. As for Wade, it doesn’t hurt in the slightest to say he is a little girl. I just wish you techsters could get my name right….oh, I get it – that is an insult. Good one…I was made speechless for a second by the craftiness of that one…

Lars, let me try to spell this out for you since you’re obviously a little slow. The GTAA looks at the prospective SA’s HS grades and academic history BEFORE they allow the GT coaches to extend an offer.

Go to ramblinwreck.com and look at the majors all the FB players are taking.

Going to be so fun to see CPJ hang 50 on you punks at BDS. You won’t have Fatty or Knowshow to make it close.

Lets recap 2008 again shall we:

NO NAT’L CHAMPS – 41-30
NO SEC CHAMPS – 49-10
NO STATE CHAMPS – 45-42

Hey Tull, get it all out of your system now…waiting for that one win every decade is a long time to hold on to all of that venom.

You GT fans keep posting about academics, I love reading it. Sadly, most of you, who probably don’t know the Electrical Engineering building from a Dorm, have yet to set foot on the GT campus. How about a refresher in Athletes and Academics for you future nuclear scientists: GT has recently served time on NCAA probation due to its failure to propertly administer eligibility, thus the forfeit of scholarships and games; Anthony Barnes was admitted to GT, took classes BEFORE GT realized he wasn’t cleared as eligible by the NCAA, thus he was forced to withdraw, go home to Cartersville, take another HS class, and two yrs later showed up on the GT football roster; Lewis Clinch, guard on Paul Hewitt’s basketball team, was academically ineligible twice during his career but somehow, someway, managed to make the Dean’s List last Fall to regain his eligibility; GT’s APR was one of the worst in the ACC, and substantially lower than Georgia’s; Tyrone Sorrells was dismissed at Georgia back in the 80’s because he couldn’t exit Dev Studies, he transferred to GT, made Dean’s List a time or two, and graduated – what what degree I don’t know; then there’s Reggie Ball, a wonderful student in calculus, who somehow couldn’t count to four — hmmmmm, how do you do that?

Again, GT is a fine academic institution but please, don’t try to tell us that applies to athletics. The Anthony Barnes, Reggie Ball, Lewis Clinch, SAmmy Drummer, Tyrone Sorrells, Stephon Marbury, types quickly dispel that non-sense, then there’s the self employed businessman Reuben Houston who would never have been allowed to suit up for Georgia while under Federal indictment, but GT played him. GT has signed just as many dimwits and non academics as Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, Tenn and the rest.

You clowns know that 1 in 8 talk won’t fly. If Gailey was still the coach, I would admit that win as a fluke and not expect another for a while. But Gailey is gone and CPJ is now the coach. Get ready boys, you’re in for a very long ride.

The triple option you faced in Athens last year will be run MUCH better this year. Hide and watch. You’re all scared and it’s all too obvious.
