Could we be starting all the talk about recruiting too soon? This has all been going on like this, but the fans were not exactly in the know this soon. If I were a high school coach I would resent the collage coaches coming in and disrupting things that should be about a boy's junior or senior year. Is this the best for the collage game? Is this best for the high school game? is this best for the players? Who does this early press help?

LOL ... I dont think any Tide fan has thought the last 10 years were good ones for the program . It is generally acknowledged to be the worst decade for well over 50 years going back to the era of "Ears" Whitworth . And even stooping THAT low Bama

That being said I can't take the time to teach math and statistics to you BUT you do realize those ten years (or the "last 5" you alluded to ) are included in every in every cherry picked time frame you just posted don't you ? Also typical of cherry pickers you included (or should I say "subtracted" ) the victories snatched from the "Napkin" incident to try and make it look like Georgia was doing things on the field Bama wasn't .

How about letting us know how many national championships Georgia won over that 30 year time frame vs Bama . For that matter count up SEC appearances and Championships or even 10 win seasons by both schools (funny how Jawga "stats" start looking then even WITH a very poor decade for Bama thrown in )Like Auburn Georgia MIGHT be able to crow a little about at least keeping pace with Bama over the last ten years during one of their best runs and one of the Tide's worst . Of course "keeping pace" time is over . The Dawgs have peaked near the top of the programs ability over the last 10 years . Bama is rebounding from an all time low and moving back to championship form . You do the math of what that will mean over the next ten years for either school ;-)

As for real stat analysis we won't even bother talking about all time records in every category for both schools . Everyone pretty much knows what those look like hehehe

Bill....good points. Yes I was referring to the o line where in 13 games we had 9 different starting combinations. That group needs to gell. Also, I know everyone thinks Joe Cox will be the man but I'm not sold on that fact. Gray could figure in the mix. RB's by committee will be the strategy and I'm always worried about our defense...the entire unit.

Hey Crimson, chew on this:

Over the last 30 years:
Georgia Win % = 0.71488 Record = 257 - 101 - 5
Alabma Win % = 0.66848 Record = 245 - 121 - 2

Over the last 20 years:
Georgia Win % = 0.69057 Record = 168 - 75 - 1
Alabama Win % = 0.63710 Record = 158 - 90 - 0

Over the last 10 years:
Georgia Win % = 0.76562 Record = 98 - 30 - 0
Alabama Win % = 0.59524 Record = 75 - 51 - 0

The last 5 years look even worse for you. These are just the facts.

By the way, have you figured out what a Ute is by now?

reading the comments I am sort of surprised . I realize people always hope to see more out of their team every year . That being said what more can you REALLY expect Richt to do in Athens ? A few ten win seasons .. a couple of claims to the SEC championships .. come on ... I mean seriously this IS Georgia football you people are talking about . :-)

ill take an average of 10 wins per year with an awesome human being
as our head coach all day long. i will logically assume all but 2 or 3 schools in the country would trade records, conference championships,
and bowl victories with UGA! no doubt. go dawgs!

bill_in_atl you are correct.
1. I think Joe & Logan will do fine. Redshirt Murry.
2. Running back will be by committee, but Samuel will be the starter.
3. I hope Marlon Brown is as good as stated, but my sleeper here is Isreal Troop.
4. DE is my major concern. Losing Houston does not help.
5. Avoid the injury bug that hit last year, and the expection that everyone will have to pull there own weight instead of waiting on Stafford or Moreno to work miracles will go a long way with the attitude.

Hello fay-dawg. Would you like to explain what "big question marks" there are on either line other than the DE position? It seems that you are referring to the OL, which will be the best and deepest group in a long time. That's perhaps one of the only KNOWN points.

On the interior DL we will also be loaded with talent. Owens and Adkins may both be 1st rounders next year and the backups are pretty good too.

Big question marks are the following:

1. How will Cox handle the job as the starter? The guy has never lost a game he's started and he saved us from losing to Colorado when he was a Freshman and Staff was stinking up the stadium. He knows the system and is a real leader. But, it's still a question as to what happens when he is the man. (In the same category, will Murray be ready to contribute and/or will Logan present a change of pace that makes opposing defenses prepare for more looks?)

2. Who will take control at starting RB? Or will it be a committee? (I've all but given up on Caleb and have my hopes on Thomas and Samuel at this point, but I could be wrong.)

3. Who will be the go to #2 WR to take some pressure off AJ? Lots of candidates but no clear leader.

4. Who will step up at DE? Again, lots of candidates but the one leader who seemed to step up this Spring is suspended for the first 2 games. Whoever plays there will have the benefit of Owens and Adkins taking up space and getting doubled in the middle. (That can't be discounted.)

5. Biggest question of all for me is this. Will this team GATA and play with focus and desire? Don't want to comment about last year, but there was clearly something missing in terms of the intensity at times.

Losses to Bama, UF & GT certainly hurt...buy to suggest we are in a slide is insane. I will agree that the defense needs to improve drastically or Martinez will have to go....and Bobo will be under the microscope this season as well. Go Dawgs!

REALIST, you are correct, 8 wins a year isn't enough, that is why Coach Donnan is no longer the coach. I don't believe a team that has won 10 games or more 6 out of 7 years, top 10 6 out of 7 years and recruiting top 10 EVERY year is a team of decline. The 'down' year was 9 wins, name ANY other SEC school that can boast that.

For anyone that wants to say Richt has lost his recruiting prowess, I do believe #4 in the country last year speaks of itself.

DawgRealist, who are you referring to when you cite "winning 8 games a year"? CMR won 10 in a disappointing season full of the most injuries that a UGA football team has perhaps ever had. He is averaging 10.25 wins per season and has 2 SECC already. You must have been talking about someone else.

Or, do you think you can predict the future and that your perception of the future is what the whole world also is seeing?

Give me a break.

Some of you people have NO CLUE.. I can only hope that you don't consider yourselves Dawg fans. Because if you do, you are making yourselves look like complete idiots. Just a season before last the Dawgs finished ranked no.2 in the country.... yet this is a program on decline and CMR is slipping?? Are you kidding me? If you really knew how this system works and how college football is you wouldn't be making these asinine comments. There is such a small line btwn playing for a Nat'l title and playing in a non-BCS bowl game. Some teams end up in a title game only because a team lost a game in a huge upset and opened the door. I guess some people take things for granted. UGA is a great football program but you people have to realize that every other school is busting their butts too. Other schools have great coaches, fan support, facilities, etc etc.... To say this program is slipping or on the decline is just simply complete foolishness. Does anybody remember that not too long ago Florida had a FOUR loss season?? I tell ya, some people shouldn't be allowed to speak at all. Give the competition credit and lower your completely unrealistic expectations. I don't know if it's still available or not but some of you need to read Tony Barnhardt's article titled something like "What is UGA missing.... nothing" Here it is.... http://blogs.ajc.com/barnhart-college-football/2009/04/21/whats-missing-at-georgia-absolutely-nothing/

I miss the the old SEC championship days. As a christian, I love Mark Richt for everything he stands for. As a former D-1 football player, I believe the dawg program is idle at best or on the decline. Kids are not committing to Georgia because they believe they can win championships, they are committing because of Coach's Richt's honesty, candor, faith and relationships with people. Let's face it, this time and date that does not mean much to a lot of people. Including alumni, fans, media and people. Winning 8 games a year is not enough. Win at all cost's, regardless of the price?

D'Quantavious Washington, D'Antonio Hooper, Kuntekintea Jones are the receivers ga should be taking a close look at. But they may not meet the entrance requirements. They only have five arrests among them.

DaRick Rogers, Antonio Goodwin, and Ted Meline are hopefully the top 3 WR prospects for UGA. They should all be in the top 5 nationally but aren't there yet.

the concern here is that Justin might cop an attitude wherever he goes if his playing time is not what he thinks is equal to his perceived skills. certainly hope that is not the case if he does sign with UGA.

We need DE that can actually stay healthy, out of trouble and pass rush. Throw in a few offensive linemen and then worry about the WR. It starts up front with the "big uglies" as Madden would say. If you can't open holes or protect the QB, you will not move the ball. So UGA needs to focus on protecting its QB opening holes for its RB's along with closing the opposing teams holes and tackling their Qbs for loss.
