For the second time in three days, Alabama landed a commitment from one of Georgia’s top prospects. Wide receiver Ronald Carswell of Macon committed to the Crimson Tide on Tuesday, according to Scout.
“It’s Alabama,” Carswell told the website. “They are the biggest team in Alabama. They don’t have a pro team. It’s all about the Crimson Tide.”
Carswell picked Alabama over East Carolina, and had emerging interest from Florida, Clemson, and many other schools. Carswell will be joined at Alabama by one of the state’s top quarterbacks.
Gainesville quarterback Blake Sims made the surprising decision to commit to the Crimson Tide on Saturday after meeting with coach Nick Saban. Sims had offers from around 10 schools, including Michigan and Georgia, before quickly committing to Alabama, which had offered only two days earlier. Sims said on Tuesday that he will remain loyal to Saban.

Saban has more players from Georgia commitment to play for the crimson tide than football players from the state of Alabama? Wonder if Rodney Garner and Coach Richt is watching Saban making Georgia his own recruiting playground!! Really Alabama high school players are not as good as the
last 2 years so that is why Saban is recruiting Georgia and Tennessee real hard this year! Get the fence ready Lance Thompson because you are going to get your butt beat in Memphis this year!!

Imagine that! Some of our best talent heading to a out of state rival. Maybe all the late offers has something to do with it. But then again, nothing is final until that ink hits the paper.

Spurrier quote about Saban:
“I honestly don’t think Nick will ever leave Bama. They are the perfect
match. A guy with no conscience and no ethics, worshiped by a fan base
too stupid to value either.”

Sims had no real motivation to go to Georgia with two top flight QBs signed this year with at least one practically guaranteed to redshirt. It doesn’t hurt to offer but the odds of landing him were pretty slim to start.

I want to get prepared for being TERRIBLE the next few years…so can someone tell me what it’s like to lose to Louisiana Tech? or being blown out in a BCS game by a Mountain West team? I’m pretty much only used to losing to top-20 teams from major conferences…

Every mayor college has highway alumni which have never darkenend the doors of a higher learning institution. I live in Athens but I am an Alabama alum. Inappropriate behavior occurs because of the fervor surrounding the game. You can’t beat SEC football. I think most of us could agree upon that!

Judging from the fact that we have not been TERRIBLE one single year since Richt came to UGA, and our signing class getting better every year, I don’t see how you can logically assume that UGA will be terrible. But I think that logic eludes you.

DUMB, DUMB, DUMB….as every newspaper I read and TV show I saw after the “blackout”, the game was no where near as close as the score. Yes we lost to Utah but didnt UGA lay an egg several years ago against WVU? You can go back and forth all day on this but fact is, it has happened to both school. UGA also lost this past year to an average GT team. BAMA lost to the teams that finished #1 and #2 in the final polls. If you cant see the direction that BAMA is heading in, you havent paid attention the classes that Saban is pulling in and you didnt see how they played last year. You can talk about UF and Utah all you want but the fact is we beat everyone on our schedule and finished top 5. Sorry if I am not terribly disappointed with that despite losing to the eventual national champs (you know all well how that feels) and our bowl game.

UGA is stacked at WR. So any kid who is insecure about his talent and having to compete will of course look elsewhere. All I can say to any WR who signs with Bama is, have fun catching at most 15 balls a year in Saban’s run-mostly offense…if you want a chance to truly prove yourself in a pro-style offense, come to UGA.

UGA was atleast coming back and all but won the WVU game not the egg Bama dropped against Utah. The UTah game showed how far Bama really ahs to go. They fought hard against UF but the west was down last year look at LSU and Auburn. Bama has turnover on OL but the west will be down again so they can get back to Atlanta. Saban has followed up great seasons in the past with down seasons.

Really, Bama is doing pretty well at WR too in case you haven’t noticed players like Julio Jones and the receivers we signed in 2009 class.
For those like North Hall Trojan saying that Sims isn’t going to be that good. Well guess what, Bama is loaded at QB already with Star Jackson as a redshirt Freshman and AJ McCarron as an incoming freshman. Sim will end up in the defensive backfield as a safety.

Yes, Saban is coming into Georgai with success. Yes, a lot of it has to do with the fact that they played in our state, in our dome, and in athens a total of three times last year. But, we are not and will not be after Carswell. He is about the seventh or eight best WR in Georgia according to the recruiting sites.
We offered Blake Sims as an ATH. Probably would have ended up at WR. For the record, he stated several times the only school he would think about attending to play anything other than QB was UGA. He grew up a UGA fan. Bama promised him a shot at QB and he is dumbe enough to believe them. He will see a month of time at QB and then get moved to WR or DB. I don’t fault the kid for wanting to play the position he loves, but he should be smarter about where he is going to play it. He needs to go to a team that runs the spread. That way he can utilize his athleticism and hide his lack of height.
You can make a big deal about it if you want, but it doesn’t really hurt us. Now, if they get Juwuan James to Bama, then we need to worry. He was supposed to be a UGA lock and now lists Bama as his leader, citing the fact that he wants to play college with his HS teammated Austin Sheppard. Sheppard has already committed to Bama. UGA did not offer before he committed to Bama.

In no way was I saying that you shouldn’t be very happy with the direction of Alabama football and everyone knows you guys are doing great BUT to come on the AJC boards and claim all hail Alabama is crazy. When you guys are back to doing it every year like you used to and probably will then I will listen but not after being one year removed from going 6-6 and losing to Louisiana Tech at home. By the way UGA did lose to WVU but the score was 38-35 so we did not lay an egg.

LOL Come on….you gotta have a sense of humor about this stuff. Its just a game!

When an athelete from Georgia picks anyone other than UGa, the first reactions are predictable……we didn’t offer, kid is a trouble maker, UGa is loaded at that position, they are dumb, etc…
Whether it is Alabama or Tennessee, ‘dog fans immediately start making excuses. Why is it that you have to trash an 18-19 year old kid to make yourself feel better?

Dean….what was so appealing about UGA when Donnan was there? They had really won anything but good football players still wanted to go there. Richt is a good recruiter and can sell the program. In case you haven’t taken notice, Saban isnt too bad of a recruiter either so the fact that we were undefeated and playing for the SEC title in Saban’s 2nd year gives you a good idea of the direction of the BAMA program. If you know ANYTHING about college sports, you would know why BAMA is a great place to play college football.

all of us are getting carried away here, everyone knows the the state of GA has better HS football than the state of alabama, its no secret, so why wouldnt Saban come over here and grab a few? there are hundreds of guys that leave the state every year. Not all of these kids can sig with UGA, or GT, they have to go somewhhere else. And it doesnt help that UGA or GT will only sign 15-20 players each this year. Do the math guys, those recruits must go somewhere. Im a huge UGA fan, but if UGA tells me they are not going to offer me, and Nick Saban is at my front door, you damn right im gonna sign his papers. Yes I heard about that Simms guy who signed with Bama, but did any of you go watch his highlights? kid just dropped back, didnt look down field, and just took off running, great athlete, but def wont turn into a QB. And for this receiver? I havent ever heard of him, UGA is going after Tai-ler Jones, and a few other in state guys, as well as a few from out of state.

UGA got TWO elite-11 QBs this year…..its not like we’re desperate to sign another QB like Bama is. I’m sure we wouldve happy for Sims to sign, thats why Richt offered him. But, it wasnt a big recruiting war and wasnt a player we desperately needed. If Bama gets some d-line players we’re going after, that’s more of a concern.
