Gainesville’s Blake Sims, one of UGA’s targets at quarterback, committed to Alabama on Saturday. Sims met in person with Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban.
“Blake and his dad are fired up,” Gainesville offensive coordinator Todd Wofford said. “Blake said he had no choice but to commit.”
“It was everything he was looking for. Coach Saban and his staff were really straight forward with Blake. They said he has a legitimate chance to fight for the QB spot. If his heart is at QB, then he would stay at QB.”
Sims had around 3,400 all-purpose yards and 42 total touchdowns last year for Gainesville. He had around a dozen offers, including UGA, Michigan, West Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Ole Miss, North Carolina State, and Florida State.
Sims said all the schools except for Georgia offered him strictly at quarterback. Before the Alabama trip, Sims named his his top three choices as Michigan, West Virginia and UGA. He has yet to meet college entrance requirements, and will soon take the SAT and ACT for the first time.
