Lane Kiffin says Bryce Brown may be another Reggie Bush

Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin knows Reggie Bush. He helped recruit Bush to Southern Cal. Kiffin says there are a lot of comparisons between Bush and Bryce Brown, who recently signed with Tennessee.

“It was huge, it was monumental to sign the No. 1 player in the country, especially with our staff not being here very long, and our team coming off a 5-7 season,” Kiffin told the AJC’s Michael Carvell.

“When we got hired here, it was someone [Brown] who for the most part wasn’t even talking to us, wouldn’t visit us. So I was really proud of our staff staying on it through the whole thing, all the time that went into this.”

“We know that this is a big-time signing. I believe he’s the only No. 1 player to ever sign with Tennessee in the history of the school. To do that in our first year says a lot about our staff and the direction of our program.”

Brown was ranked as the nation’s No. 1 prospect by Rivals. Kiffin and and Tennessee recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron said Brown is the best high school tailback they’ve seen since Bush, reported the Knoxville News. “This guy is so exciting,” Kiffin told the News. “I’m not saying he’s Reggie, but there’s a lot of comparisions.”

People may not like Nick Saban but when he is asked about incoming recruits, he never talks them up because he doesnt want to set any expectations on them. Who knows how good a kid is going to be when he gets into the faster paced college game. Kiffin is putting a lot of expectations on Brown so this kid better be all he is being billed to be or Kiffin will look like an idiot….yet again.

Does that mean Brown and his family will be living in a $600,000 condo somewhere in Knoxville??? Or driving a new Lexus??? Hmmmmm. Better keep an eye on these boys…

JCMC, does Tebow do those things in Gainesville? Did Percy? The big recruits get watched like a hawk. With all the focus on Brown’s handler, you can bet Kiffin made sure everything was on point before, during, and after the signing of Brown.
I won’t argue with anyone trying to paint our guys as dirty recruiters. I do with all you other teams when you get a player that should be going to UT instead. I certainly did it when the Zooker was bringing in new Gators with nothing on his resume to sell them. I did when all that talent started signing with a still wet behind the ears Urbie Meyers (s intended…thank that idiot Fla. congresswoman).
Fact is, most of these guys walk that grey area to get recruits, yet no one ever seems to get punished in the SEC. I guess everybody, except Rodney “The Bagman” Garner who we know is dirty..bahaha, just works really hard.

Yeah, you sure nailed it there Voice. It sure breaks our hearts that you now have to pay Garner a va$t amount more than you did last year just to keep him around. I would not think it’s going to be too long until the rest of your “getting the least out of the most” coaching staff comes around with their hands out as well. You set a new standard with Garner now you are the one’s that will have to live with it. Yeah, we wanted him. He’s a great recruiter. Who wouldn’t. But at least we made you pay him more than you wanted. The big winner here is not UT or UGA. At the end of the day it was Randy smiling all the way to the bank.

Kiffin is the football equivalent of Obama. He talks a lot of smack about how good he’s going to be, then, when it’s go time, he’s as clueless as anyone has ever been. Also, Lane, when you talk up recruits before they ever reach campus, that increases, not reduces the pressure on you. Probably not a good idea before you’ve coached you first loss, er, game.

If UT did/does do any type of recruiting violations the NCAA will bust them big because their not Southern California who is evidently “UNtouchables” as far as the NCAA has proven with their handling of the Reggie Bush’s violations.

..and Brew…the Zooker was a great recruiter when he was with the Gators in the early 90’s and helped recruit the 1996 Gator NC team…..and the NCAA punishes SEC and ACC teams regularly for a lot of small potato violations compared to supplying a $200,000 house to a USC players family.

The audacity to compare Kiffin to Obama. Kiffin will not hike up ticket prices in order to pay for Bryce Brown’s family to get a condo. Nor will he negotiate with Nick Saban nor Urban Meyer and ask that they play nice in the recruiting wars or other schools will look down on him. Now Georgia, for those of you who were not born yet when Hershel came to UGA, look it up , on his 1st day of practice he showed up in a new Trans Am and the school said he would be turning the lights on and off in the gym daily to earn it. You are indeed the pot calling the kettle black. Finally lets not compare anyone to Obama unless you have never yourself been to a college on a weekday, because that is one of the lowest things you could say to someone.

spivol- who is Randy? And obviously money is not a big deal to RODNEY since he didn’t leave to go to TENN where y’all were willing to pay more than we are even after the pay raise. You have no argument. Also, the raise did not include a “vast amount more” money than we were already paying him. And atually I never said that you were heartbroken that we now have to pay him more than we were as you implied. I said that Brew was mad that he didn’t come to Tenn since Brew was calling him dirty after he chose not to go to Tennessee and you just admitted that you wanted him there so it seems to me that you agree with me. Don’t try to spin my argument into something that you can dispute when you can’t dispute what I actually said.

I agree with Kent. I may not be the bigget fan of Kiffin (I don’t have a problem with guy actually, yet he does coach the competition) but no matter what Kiffin does, my children and grandchildren won’t have to pay for it. He can not possibly ruin the country we love by tossing aside the principles upon which it was founded like Obama is determined to do. Ah Mr. Voice. Settle down there bubba. Not disputing anything. Just making a point. My point is that UGA had no intention of paying Rodney (sorry, he hasn’t been around up here for some time, thanks for the correction) any more than he was making before UT came calling. His salary was bumped up and that you cannot dispute. Fact is, he should have been moved up to DC as well. The guy proved himslf at UT and now at UGA as a top notch recruiter. Yeah, we did want him (I don’t care what Brew said) but instead went after, and got, Alabama’s recruiting coordinator and LB coach I believe Lance Thompson fits in more with whats going on now in Knoxville anyway. Not sour grapes, just my impression on how this staff working out. None of this is an arguement. Just facts. I just hope Rodney can earn the extra money you guys are now putting out for him. Sounds like he has a job ahead of him working out the shortage at DE. My only problem with Garner is that he took off from UT in the middle of recruiting to come to UGA and took some recruits along with him. Dirty? Nope, not in recruiting these days.

Hope you can make it to Knoxville this year for the showdown. It is my favorite game of the year as my brother is a UGA grad. I’m not sure where we went wrong with him but it has made it pretty lively in the family come fall. Anyways, we plan on tailgating together so your kind will be welcome. No need to get all defensive there my bulldoggy friend. That’s what those neurotic UF fans are for.

Now that I got the whole Rodney, Randy, Ricardo, whatever, Garner thing settled…. I am looking forward to Bryce Brown being a contributer in the backfield. We are in bad need of some production in the ground game to help out our QBs. Along with Hardesty I think we can wear down some D-lines. To be honest though I’m a little more excited about Oku being the slash back that can create mismatches coming out of the back field and catch some balls down the center of the field. At any rate we now have one of the , if not the, deepest backfields in the conference. Run first, pass second, I like it. Get the D into eight in the box then burn them down the field.

spivol, who cares if our QB’s only throw 6 times a game because UT will be able to run on everybody. Our defense will be one of the Nations best. UT may win several games 10-7, but there will not be many points put on the board from anyone. One thing is for sure. When it comes to UGA, they can be up 22 on you and you can still win by 3! That is a lack of defense.

I think that Brown will end up being more like a Maurice Clarnett (spelling?). I think he will have one or two fantastic years, then his demons will catch up with him. I can’t honestly say that I am glad that he was never on UGA’s radar (or UGA was never on his radar, I don’t know the details), but he comes with so much baggage that there is a lot of risk there. Hopefully, he can stay on the straight and narrow.

Wow, what style and grace you UGA and UF fans have got on this site. Have to hand it to you. You must be very proud of your degrees from the College of Tasteless Zingers from your respective universities. A couple of words of advice to the both of you.

Before 15 years ago you were nothing UF. Congrats on the recent success of your program. But as they say… Act like you’ve been there (even though you have certainly not). Life after Tebow is coming. I don’t care what kind of talent you guys have coming in; transition is transition. It is really too bad some of you can’t try to emulate your QB because he is a once in a lifetime ambassador for the UF football program. It’s a real shame that you cannot say the same. You say your guys are mad? Good I hope they are. Because we are as hungry as you are mad. Should make for a great game. Win, lose, or draw I am looking forward to it.

UGA, Until 2001 you were getting smacked in the mouth on regular basis by the Big Orange. 1980 was looooong time ago. What are you celebrating here? Being able to say you are the 2nd best team in the SEC East? Maybe if Richt would get the most, instead of near the least, out of his stellar recruiting classes you would have actually won something in the last eight years.

I’m glad both of your programs have had the opportunity over the last couple of years to taste what we came to expect over the last 50 years. Only Alabama out of all the rest of the SEC can rightfully claim that. So keep posting your classless little jokes and smarta$$ remarks. It only underscores your lack of class and intelligence. It also makes it that much sweeter when the Vols do find success on the football field.

To those fans/grads of both schools that actually post reasonable arguments; this is not intended for you. My tailgate is always open to visting fans to share a drink and talk some smack whenever you are in Knoxville on game day. To the rest of you; you may want to consider upgrading that GED.

To the idiots who don’t know better, Bryce Brown was recruited by USC Florida and LSU( Haven’t they won championships this decade with their top-10 recruiting classes? Unlike the University of watch your 5-star status turn into nothing aka UGA)Tennessee won’t beat Florida but it would come as no surprise if the doggies come to Knoxville high and mighty(like two years ago) and got decked another blow by Big Orange. The top-5 D is back and likely better and the offense can’t get worse and will be less confusing than the offense that required players to make 5000 reads last year. Tennesse won’t beat Bama or Fla (who is in for a rude awakening after Tebow leaves)but they van take evryone else.

Kiffin may be immature and extremely brash, but he is an excellent football coach. And his father is a better coach than his son. “O” can really recruit and can coach, too. The Vols are going to be a lot better than people think this year. They have a lot of talent, especially on defense, and they will be a lot better coached this year. They will be dangerous, and will probably be pushing for #2 in the SEC East this year. And, all you people who keep saying the Gators will be down after this year. Wake up! The Gators are loaded with extremely talented Sophs, RS Fresh, and Fresh at almost every position on both sides of the ball. Plus, John Brandley will take over for two years after Tebow, and he is high round NFL QB talent. Great arm, polished passer, and very athletic (and a great, new QB coach in Loeffer). And they have already received the commitment from the #1 QB in the 2010 class and are on the road already to having the #1 recruiting class in 2010. Meyer and the Gators will continue to roll for years to come…count on ans get used to it.
