Georgia offers football scholarship to Tucker sophomore LB

Tucker sophomore James Vaughters

Tucker sophomore James Vaughters has offers from Georgia Tech, Alabama, Stanford, Central Florida, Clemson, N.C. State, and Georgia.

It was UGA’s Junior Day on Saturday, but Bulldogs coach Mark Richt also gave some love to one of the state’s 2011 prospects. UGA was the seventh school to offer Tucker sophomore linebacker James Vaughters.

“Actually with the way recruiting is going, with colleges offering kids earlier, I’m not surprised about all of this happening with James,” Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said. “When you watch James on tape, you don’t see a sophomore. When you throw in his academics, you have one of those can’t-miss prospects.”

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Vaughters was one of the top defenders on Tucker’s state championship team, which had five seniors sign with major colleges, including Drayton Calhoun (LSU) and Deion Roberson (N.C. State).

Perhaps most importantly, Vaughters carries a 4.0 GPA.

For a Soph, this guy is a total freak. He will go down as a great one provided he stays healthy and stays out of trouble.
Never seen a Soph string out so many blocks and release perfectly like this kid does. Just like a pro.
No wonder all the major colleges want him.
    Way to go CMR!

Vaughter should be the Dawgs #1 priority in 2012. This kid is a BEAST! Those highlights on Marlon Brown are nasty. That kid just doesn’t seem to want to ever go down when the ball is in his hands. The SEC is in for a rude awakening.

Very athletic, fast, but the thing I noticed most on the film is that he was hardly touched by a blocker on 90% of the tackles he made. Like no one even tried to block him. The thing that impressed me most was his blocking ability. Blocking (and tackling) is a good measure of effort, of “want to.” Size, speed, smarts, desire. Looks good to me.

Wow…those look like highlights of M. Brown competing in the equivalent of Georgia’s GISA league. You know, the league of small private and parochial schools in the state of GA. He won’t be seeing too many defenses like that in the SEC. Look out, UGA…incoming “BUST”.

Mr. Vaughters, carrying a 4.0 at Tucker High school indicates to me that you’re a brilliant young man. I would say that you would be wise to talk to the most recent Tucker alum to leave UGA. The Dawg Nation has blasted this kid who has given his all for 3+ years at UGA. They take much pride in blaming all of their problems on the kids from DeKalb and Fulton (Reshard Jones) counties on their team. What does your brilliant mind make of that? What kinds of kids come from these places? And before they can bombard the site denying this…check this out:

James Vaughters appears to be an outstanding athlete, football player and student, who, as a mere sophomore, should only get better and better. I’m delighted that the UGA staff saw this young man’s ability and potential and offered him early to attend UGA.

As for GISA standout’s posts above, it’s obvious he is not a GA fan or alum because he criticizes both GA and Mr. Vaughters. The latter is inexcusable because Vaughters plays at a very high level at the 4A level (only 5A is higher) in Georgia for a team (Tucker) that won the state championship in that classification! He’s certainly not ducking competition since he cannot choose it…. all he can do is to play as well as he has for to help his team win a state championship.

As for GA and Tucker kids, perhaps GISA would do well to talk with former Tucker football players like Thomas Brown and Asher Allen, both of whom had stellar careers and loved their time at GA. Certainly Vaughters will take note of Brown and Allen’s careers at GA and realize that UGA is a great place to get an education and to prepare yourself for the pros as a football player. Even if some purported “fan” of GA does not feel that Allen is overrated (how can you really tell if a person on the Internet has an actual allegiance to a particular school?), that doesn’t reflect on GA’s program, its coaches, and its players. It’s simply one person’s opinion, and as Vaughters will learn, there will be many of them, including GISA’s suggestion that Vaughters is a “bust” waiting to happen. You’ll be happy at UGA Mr. Vaughters and you’ll be treated well while you hone your skills, academic and athletic, for the next level. UGA would be fortunate and honored to have you wear the Red and Black!!

We dont have a linebacker maybe with the exception of Rennie Curran, who can play the position the way that kid can. Man I hope we can get him. I think USC will sneak in there though and lure him like they did Jarvis Jones at Carver.

It’s a bad economy, but I would’ve done it anyways because the Atlanta Journal has better coverage and you can watch any prospect’s video on Youtube. Both are FREE!!!!!!!. Type in the kid’s name and it’s there. Vaughters is the real deal. I wish he would’ve committed to Georgia on Saturday. Surely he wouldn’t want to play for the bugs.

DaddyDawg: Since you are a typical dawg fan, I will explain this to you slooooooowly. If you read my first post, it was a comment about Marlon Brown’s level of competition, not Mr. Vaughters’. And since he is a brilliant kid, i would suggest that he would be able to discern the difference…and actually know the definition of “discern” unlike you.
As for Asher Allen, if you want Mr. Vaughters to come to your team, you’d really hope that he doesn’t talk to Mr. Allen. The overwhelming number of dawg fans on the AJC’s blog (and Rivals) have dogged Allen as being over-rated and totally dispensible…even going so far as to BLAME him for your team’s troubles, when he has in fact been one of the most stable performers for that pitiful defense.

    GISA:

You compared Vaughter’s tape to Marlon Brown dominating at a lower level, thus implying that a player like Vaughters who dominates at his level could be a bust as well. I’m sure you know the difference between imply and inference, right. Verstehen?

As for your comments about Allen, you explicitly stated that “the DawgNation has blasted this kid [Asher Allen].” Yet, as I pointed out earlier, you can’t tell whether posters on the Internet really have an allegiance to any particular school simply by their Internet handle on a message board. And even if you could, a few posters giving their opinion about Allen hardly suffices for becoming the view of the DawgNation or the UGA football team, its staff and players. If you were to read what Asher Allen himself has said about his time at GA, you would know that he was very happy there, per the AJC’s Chip Towers, who talked with Asher after he ran a 4.33 at his pro day at UGA: “Asher Allen was thrilled with his 4.33. Says he hated leaving Georgia but had to do what he had to do. Thinks the Dogs will like Branden Smith and thinks Brandon Boykin and Sanders Commings might turns some heads.” See the actual comments at the blog here: http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2009/03/22/georgia-offers-football-scholarship-to-tucker-sophomore-lb/?cxntfid=blogs_recruiting

My guess is that you are a disgruntled GA Tech fan who would like nothing better than to steer Vaughters there or at least away from UGA. Your comments about UGA, however, are not only lacking in veriable facts but smacks of a disgruntled Tech fan who doesn’t like the fact that GT has only beaten GA once in the last 8 years. And you don’t have to be as smart as Vaughters to see that UGA has been the more successful program, compared to GT, since Richt became coach at GA.

GISA standout I agree that a few UGA fans have made terrible comments about Allen and Reshad Jones. I know Jones and he is not judging his experience at UGA on the basis of a few disgruntled fans. He loves UGA. I think the same can be said of Allen. Both Allen, Thomas Brown and Patrick Pass before them have great things to say about UGA.

GISA, guys on the net that are connected to famous or semi famous people are pretty common. I know several UGA football players, their parents and former players too. Some of them had very good college careers, one even had a productive year in the NFL and some are still at UGA and some never saw the field on a meaningful play. And not a single one of them regrets their time at UGA. You have seen a link countering your accusations and called the kid a liar. So either you are calling someone you are suppose to know the real story on a liar or you are FOS. My thoughts are its the latter. I think you are most likely a fan of another team, but like your post I have nothing to back it up. One more thing, is Tech still playing ineligible players and drug dealers?

    GISA:

Once again, you make bold statements you can’t back up. You know nothing about me and what I know about the UGA program. Unlike you, I can’t say what your relationship to the program is, but I can say what mine is….. 2 degrees from UGA, season tickets at UGA for more than 20 years and close to many coaches and players over the years. What you fail to address in your rank speculation about Asher Allen is why he even addressed his feelings about UGA in his brief interview with Chip Towers. It appears to me that he did it as a spontaneous expression of his love for UGA after he blistered a 4.33 40 during his Pro Day workout.

Contrary to your assertion, there have been players over the years who were not satisfied in Athens and spoke out about it, but those are rare, especially under Richt. Even those who left the program because of discipline have been given more than one chance, and many have returned who have met the conditions to rejoin the program despite difficulties they created for themselves. You simply want to stir the pot against UGA, make baseless accusations and beat your chest as a form of false bravado. That’s a pitiful existence……..

I met James Vaughters at the Tenn game last year. He seemed like a great kid. He’s tall and langy.. still a lot of room for him to grow on his frame. From looking at his highlights, I noticed he’s on a 3 point a lot.. I think he’ll best suit for DE. Speed rusher of the edge. He definitely has the nose for the the ball. Someone said, that he’s not being blocked.. DUDE, look again, he SHEDS the blocker quick.. once he READs it, he gets rid of the blocker. That’s very impressive for a sophomore. I’m also impressed with his hands speed.. Dang, this kid is far advanced with his techinque.

Good luck to you bra.. hope to run into u again at the next game.

I think this kid will end up at GT. With a 4.0 GPA, why they hell would anyone sell themselves short and go to UGA? It sounds to me from his uncle’s comments that this kid has some good family support around him to help him make the best decision not only for the next four years but for the rest of his life. Academics are obviously important to him or why would Stanford have taken the time to offer him? At GT not only will he be challenged and rewarded on the field, but he will have the opportunity to be challenged and rewarded in the classroom as well if that is what he wants, which is more than I can say for UGA who treats all of their athletes like they have a learning disability.
