Amanda Davis’ DUI case in legal limbo after a year

Amanda Davis is doing fine, her friend Sidmel Estes said.

Amanda Davis is doing fine, her friend Sidmel Estes said.

Just over a year ago, at 12:30 a.m. Nov.11, former Fox 5 anchor Amanda Davis‘ life changed forever on Piedmont Ave.

She was allegedly driving southbound in a northbound lane in Midtown when she crashed her green Fiat into a black Toyota Corolla.

The Atlanta police charged her with DUI, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.

Her haunted, disheveled mugshot was plastered all over the Web. She was immediately taken off the air. In April, she “retired” after 26 years in an awkward on-air goodbye. The victim David Jarmin sued her in civil court in June.

Since then, there has been no progress on her criminal case. In January, the case was moved from the city of Atlanta to Fulton County, which her attorney William C. Head said at the time would cause a massive delay.

Head was right. As the clock has ticked past 12 months, the case is still pending with no court date set.

Davis remains in legal limbo, a twilight …

Who won ‘Dancing With the Stars’ 17?

Derek Hough took home his fifth trophy, this time with Amber Riley.

Derek Hough took home his fifth trophy, this time with Amber Riley.

It really came down to two young, professional actors with dancing backgrounds, the two I pegged from day one to be in the finals: Corbin Bleu of “High School Musical” fame and Amber Riley from “Glee.”

Riley pulled out the victory, punctuated by a perfect 30 from the judges for her final dance Tuesday. She may not have a traditional lithe dancer’s body but she proved a heavier frame doesn’t negate dexterity, grace and energy. She possessed a competitive spirit that was readily apparent from her first dance to her final one.

Bleu, too, showed plenty of verve and athleticism. He finished with a 27 in the finale, falling short of what Riley was able to achieve after he messed up the cha cha cha near the end. That may have been the difference.

Another factor: Riley had one of the most popular dance partners on the show Derek Hough. He brings in his own fans. He has now won five times, more than any …

Southside Steve’s shuts down after five years

The final ad for Southside Steve's posted on Nov. 16 on the bar's Facebook page

The final ad for Southside Steve's posted on Nov. 16 on the bar's Facebook page

“Southside” Steve Rickman of the Regular Guys announced on Rock 100.5 this morning that he had closed his Southside Steve’s bar in McDonough after five years.

He said the final night was this past Saturday but provided no details on why he and his partners did so. The website www.southsidesteves.com is currently not available but the bar’s Facebook page is still up.

Rickman opened the bar five years ago as a way to expand his brand as the fun-loving, party-going guy that he is. Rickman has been part of the Regular Guys for much of the past 15 years and he became an official full-fledged “Regular Guy” when the show moved to Rock 100.5 in 2008. His role on the show has been elevated the past couple of years.

UPDATE on Tuesday: I finally got a hold of Rickman late Tuesday afternoon. He said he was mentally exhausted Monday.

In the end, he said he and his partners couldn’t make consistent …

Michelle Wright laid off from All News 106.7

Michelle Wright was laid off from All News 106.7

Michelle Wright was laid off from All News 106.7

The surprise hiring of Kim “The Kimmer” Peterson and Pete Davis at All News 106.7 last week meant less money for the regular news staff.

The result: morning host Michelle Wright was laid off.

Wright, a Connecticut native, was an original morning host on the station when it launched in May, 2012. Prior to All News, she worked as an anchor and editor for seven years at CNN Radio before that group was dismantled in 2012. Before that, she worked at a news/talk station in Orlando.

Her former colleague and remaining morning host Andy Rose is holding the reigns from 5 to 9 a.m. solo, according to the current schedule.

The station has been averaging just shy of a 2 rating, ranked 20th among all stations in recent months. Last month, the station not only added the Kimmer talk show from noon to 3 p.m. but picked up the Atlanta Braves starting in 2014 from Rock 100.5. They also air Georgia Tech basketball as well as some paid …

The Kimmer hospitalized with heart attack

The Kimmer with his horse Jack the Good Boy

This past Sunday afternoon, just six days after Kim “the Kimmer” Peterson started his new show on All News 106.7, he said he felt a “gripping pain” in his chest and broke into sweats while driving. He pulled over, rested, then continued home.

Despite continued discomfort, the 63-year-old Marine vet worked yesterday on Veteran’s Day. But the pain didn’t totally go away. So he finally decided to check into the North Fulton Hospital in Alpharetta this morning and discovered he had what doctors termed a “serious heart attack.”

Doctors are still doing tests and will find out by tomorrow how serious the blockage may be. He hopes they can just fix it with a balloon but it’s too early to know the severity, he said.

When I called him this afternoon, he said he felt much better while waiting in ICU.

“I’m pissed off about this,” he said. “I just started again!”

His producer and sidekick Pete Davis covered for him today from noon to 3 …
