Oxygen dumping "All My Babies' Mamas"

Oxygen backed down on airing a special featuring Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo called “All my Babies’ Mamas” after a torrent of protests about the content and title of the show.

The network just released this statement:

“As part of our development process, we have reviewed casting and decided not to move forward with the special.  We will continue to develop compelling content that resonates with our young female viewers and drives the cultural conversation.”

Shawty Lo was placed in a house with 10 women he had babies with, along with 11 of the kids. Many bloggers began petitions, protesting the entire premise and how poorly it reflected on blacks in general. Tens of thousands of people signed the petitions. The Parents Television Council, which usually focuses on violence and overt sexual content, also threw in their two cents, telling Oxygen to shut it down.

Oxygen originally sent out a release last month saying the special would air later this year. Sometimes networks will air specials as a test to see if it’s worthy of becoming a series. (TLC’s ‘Extreme Couponing” is an example.)

This was a rare case where the show’s description was so offensive, the network was forced to pull it.

In related news:

1/4/13: The original news report I wrote about the protests against the show

1/8/13: My prediction that the show would never see the light of day.

1/15/13: Oxygen has no problem airing “Bad Girls Club Atlanta.”

Ppl are so hypocritical…this is HIS life..if you choose not to live this way then fine but don’t judge him so harshly that you don’t want to see it on tv. If you don’t want to see it then don’t watch it..it’s that simple..personally I was interested in watching how someone could handle all these children and mothers…the main ppl toting a bible we’re the main ones signing a petition…judging….shameful. Get a life

We’ve got enough trashy reality shows on TV as it already is… like Honey Boo Boo, Toddlers & Tiaras, the Real Housewives, and the Kardashian’s. Former reality shows, like Jon & Kate, the Osborne’s, and Jersey Shore needed to be canceled. Those daytime talkers, like Jerry Springer and Maury Povich are no better. Oxygen did the right thing of ordering the cancellation of this proposed “All My Babies’ Mamas” show. Why would anybody want to watch this trash?

Let’s keep the momentum going and get all the reality trash off TV: Love and Hip Hop, Basketball Wives, Honey Boo, Kardashian Krap. We can do it!

Well being a fan of the abnormal- I may have tuned in once maybe, just maybe even twice. Let’s face it-the entertainment value would have been there…almost like a train wreck that you cant turn away from. However, the degradation the hip hop community and urban culture would have faced was just to risky.

There is no telling how many years this would have set back not only in the genre’ of hip hop, but young black males (such as myself) would have been further sterotyped in the eyes of mainstream, commercial, and global society, when we already struggle to escape many of the labels that we have been afforded by the few weak links that unfortunately represent us all.

The burden that comes with success (or good ratings) must never outweigh the probability of harm that may occur to a people-and the result of the harm once probability becomes REALITY.

Peace up- A-town Down- Swats- SHAWTY
FYI-Yes, I am a rapper- with no baby’s mammas

in reality this is the reality for many women who see nothing wrong with having babies by guys like this hoping that their “music” ro BS will bring in big bucks…I agree the show is in poor taste..HOWEVER..had it been played like “Sixteen and Pregnant’ this could have given a very positive message of what women “like this” REALLY end up with…a dad who is not in the picture, a man who could care less and moves from woman to woman, and a dad who will NOT be giving you the child support you would think(most of these guys deal in cash not a PAYCHECK!) an in most cases he will be giving you only two things: MORE babies and a empty wallet of YOUR cash…..

I’d like to apologize for being ignorant, the last thing we need on television is a young black man with 11 children being born out of wedlock with 10 different women (none of whom have a college education or have ever been married), we should not project this type of stereotypical images of black women on national telvision.

One of those Mama’s needs to chop off his baby-maker, Lorena Bobbit style! I hope the government takes note of every one of those mama’s and refuses to give them welfare benefits. They all got pregnant on purpose hoping to strike it rich through child support. Ask Evander Holyfield how fast $300 million can dry up when nine baby mama’s and their lawyers get done carving up the “player”. Get a vasectomy you big dummy! I bet they all have VD’s and/or AIDS. All of us taxpayers are going to foot the bill to raise those kids, mark it down.

Maybe he should move into a house with the Octomom and do a reality show with all 28 of the kids living together. Sponsored by Huggies diapers.

Kia, honey, it’s a travesty that this program was even thought of in the first place. If you want to see Shawty’s life, be one of his idiot BMs. I’ve already seen this “special,” as a child support collections officer with DEFACS several years ago. Also, THIS IS A COMMENT BOARD. It’s here for people to voice their opinions. If you don’t like it, take your own advice: DON’T WATCH IT. There may be opinions here other than your own; get the picture? I doubt you ever will…

@ Quantavious Sagetavious Barkaveous Jones, you are real creep believe that. Shawty Lo had every rightto have his life played out in front of millions just as the White People on the show Sister Wives. What makes White America so right and Black America so wrong when in fact as my good friend made me realize that the White Slave owners had hundreds of “Baby Mamas ” and it was just fine and dandy for the white man to rape the black slave girl and pregnate her with more slave boys and girls while this cycle gave him large amounts of income. Hmmmmm, I would say history has only repeated itself.. Shawty Lo got it from his Family’s White Slave owner, so to put it in plain English–he got it honestly… It’s in the BLOOD…

People are missing the point. For Oxgen to even consider a tacky show like this it noticed the ratings for other trash shows RHOA, Love&Hip Hop, BBWs etc. Don’t get me started on the idiots who made the Kardashians RICHER off a sex tape??? Tyler Perry loves to brag about the millions of Kartrashian twitter followers he plans to use (He could care less TALENTED black actresses are being over looked)! Time to petition other shows as well people……….

When I first saw the previews of this recently cancelled show, I must admit I was curious to know how this Shawty Lo fella handled such a large amount responsibility. If this show moves to a different network I will watch it, at least once, to see whats going on. After all, its not made up, this is really his life, its reality TV.

I think it’s really lame these wack women got this show taken off the air. If you didn’t want to watch it, you didn’t have to. He could have used this money to provide for his children. How about you all ban having kids out of wedlock! You don’t say anything about that! How about banning the housewives franchise and love and hip hop. You people are pathetic!

Ignorance is rampant in all cultures…folks need to quit focusing on one culture and realize that the world’s morals-or lack there of-are in the gutter. It’s evident in the entertainment/dress/attitudes of people. That’s all..
