‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ recap (’Off the Hook’): season 5, episode 10

This was without a doubt by far the dullest episode of the season to date. The producers were groping in the dark for drama that never happened. Good news for me: a sweet, short recap. And if you missed the episode because they moved it back an hour earlier, no loss at all.

The pseudo-relationship between Kenya Moore and Walter Jackson is deflating faster than Lindsay Lohan’s career.

Kenya and Walter, since they came back from Anguilla, have not been spending much time together. She complains about it to Kandi, who senses this relationship is going nowhere.

They go fishing (something he likes to do) and she asks him if he even cares for her. He skirts the subject, just says things haven’t been right since Anguilla, that he feels “rushed and pressured” into an engagement he has no desire to get into. In a sense, that’s true. He told Frank Ski on V-103 last month that he wasn’t aware going in that she was going to push the marriage line. It made him distinctly uncomfortable and that isn’t acting.

You have to wonder: Kenya may have asked Walter to be her, fake TV boyfriend but deep down, she probably wanted it to go further to juice her story line. How sincere she was about really wanting to marry Walter though is up in the air. Still, she went in knowing she needed Walter around to avoid the Sheree problem last year when she had no boyfriend and nothing else going on in her life. But even she may have realized by this episode that she pushed it too far and scared Walter off, potentially meaning: no boyfriend. Who else can she find to “date” now?

In other storylines:

- NeNe Leakes‘ lackadaisical son Bryce (he, of the two arrests – one for pot possession, another for stealing razors from a Wal-Mart) had a baby girl he named Bri’Asia. NeNe only found out when she ran into the baby’s mama at six months. He tells his mom he wants more kids, too but has no plans to get married. Way to go, Bryce! But he is supposedly employed at least.

- Kandi Burruss’s daughter Riley is gradually accepting the boyfriend Todd. And Kandi gives Kenya one of her toys, which she will probably put to good use, given the lack of action she’s getting from Walter.

- Cynthia Bailey hosts a party for NeNe’s going-away to Los Angeles to shoot NBC’s “The New Normal.” NeNe plans to be “bi-coastal” and brings her ex-husband and younger son with her.

- Did Porsha Stewart even have a plot line? She did go shopping and admit when she purchased lighting with her husband, she didn’t look  at the price tag. She is of the philosophy: if you like it, buy it! So the producers continue to burnish her chipper, airheaded princess persona.

- Phaedra Parks, after last week’s “divorce rumor” scare, had nothing to go on this week except for a moment sticking her “Prince” Ayden in a tub. Yes, it was that slow of a week.

QUOTES

“I’m not a grandmother, I’m a glam-mother”NeNe

“I have so many men who want to see my hot a** – except my man.” - Kenya, complaining about Walter’s lack of interest in her

“I am a Georgia peach forever baby!”NeNe, who is moved to L.A. over the summer but is committed to Atlanta

“If you she looks so much like Beyonce, why can’t she have her man put a ring on it?”
Cynthia, after Kenya noted that people mistake her “all the time” for Beyonce.

RATINGS

The ninth episode drew a very solid 3.5 million viewers last week, helping narrow the gap from season four to about 150,000 viewers. The show is now averaging about 3 million viewers a week this season. The question: with episodes as lame as episode 10, will they be able to keep the ratings momentum up? Last year, show ratings flagged noticeably in the second half. I can’t imagine moving the show back to 8 p.m. from 9 will help matters.

@jaye, I agree, kandi needs to focus on raising Riley. the littel girl has more sense than kandi when it comes to men, she could see that kandikeeps moving guys in, this is not healthy for a child. “CLOSE THE TOY BOX AND RAISE YOUR DAUGHTER!!!!!”

I wonder if “Bri’Asia” will catch on like Tanekia and Shanekia did. I saw the beginning of the show but fell asleep. Kenya and Beyonce DO have a resemblance. Why are people so hard on Kenya? She’s the only one adding any excitement (but I am so tired of the Walter plot).

@VH1 Viewer. She does have a resemblance to Beyonce. But yes, people are hard on Kenya and yes, she is the only one stirring the pot right now. So you have to give her that. And I agree. Walter is over. Find another guy to dote over!

Kenya has some very bad skin. Underneath her 20 layers of foundation are craters, scars, and scratches. She is a pretty woman, but she really needs to see a dermatologist to fix her skin. I think Walter is gay, what type of man just goes to sleep when you have an attractive woman butt naked waiting for you?? It obvious his taste consists of bats and balls. Poor Apollo, he doesn’t go by a traditional clock because he is unemployed, hopefully he can start his car repo business up again, and that nasty kiss should have been resevered in private. Riley is smarter than her momma, its obvious Kandi loves being in a relationship, I just hope this one works out for her for her daughters sake.

I love Cynthia’s comment “if Kenya’s looks so much like Beyonce, why can’t she get her man to put a ring on it”?
That was priceless. Cynthia can “read” well(in my NeNe voice)
