Cheryl White leaving ‘Good Day Atlanta’ Dec. 28

cheryl whiteOver the past two years, the “Good Day Atlanta” on-air staff has gone through a few changes. The latest departure: Cheryl White, a long-time traffic and weather anchor.

White has been with Fox 5 for 15 years.

She posted a message on her public Facebook page earlier today, where more than 200 people have made comments:

It’s been a privilege working on Good Day Atlanta for so many years. December 28th will be my last day. I wish continued success to the entire Good Day team.

Fox 5 is seeking a replacement but the new job requires more multimedia duties.

Others who have left “Good Day Atlanta” over the past two years include anchor Suchita Vadlamani (still in Atlanta but not in media), anchor Mark Hayes (now anchoring in Dallas) and “Road Warrior” Stacy Elgin (raising her twins). Arrivals include anchors Ron Gant and Gurvir Dhindsa.

Here’s White’s current bio on the Fox 5 website:

Cheryl White is a traffic and weather anchor for Good Day Atlanta.

Cheryl has been guiding …

Chris “Crash” Clark, while being an ostensible co-host to Ryan Cameron the past year in the afternoons, has actually been an employee of Total Traffic, not V-103.

But Crash today officially signed a deal today with CBS to be a full-time employee and full-time sidekick for Cameron starting Jan. 3, when Cameron takes over for Frank Ski and Wanda Smith in the mornings. Big Tigger takes over afternoons for Cameron and a third person will be named to Cameron’s morning team, Cameron’s boss Rick Caffey told me last week.

Cameron and Clark’s history goes back to the mid-1990s when Crash called himself traffic reporter “Crash D” on Hot 97.5 when Cameron was the host of that show.

Although Clark has been a Total Traffic employee, V-103 in many respects …

Guys have won the first two seasons. Will they end up splitting the vote now that they created a three-way finale? Cassadee has been outselling the other two by wide margins on iTunes. She is a pro who fronted a band before and comes across sa polished and vocally pristine. She’s up against Nicholas, a bearded soul man who opted for Cee Lo-level glitz tonight and Terry, an excellent 80s rocker in the wrong decade. I’m going to play it safe and call this for Cassadee.

Also, the opener with “Hallelujah” and the contestants and coaches holding the names of the Newtown dead was appropriately touching and effective in its brevity.

1) Nicholas David (”Great Balls of Fire”/Jerry Lee Lewis mashed up with “Fire”/Jimi Hendrix, Team Cee Lo) – I haven’t been following this …

Post-mortem with ‘Survivor Philippines’ fourth place Malcolm Freberg

Over 25 seasons, some”Survivor” iterations fall flat. Others click thanks to a magic blend of memorable personalities, strategic game play (the more blindsides the merrier!) and character drama. “Survivor Philippines,” which concluded last night, fulfilled all the criteria for a great season. And this happened despite – or because of -  two super fans actress Lisa Whelchel (”Facts of Life”) and former pro baseball player Jeff Kent.

I spoke with Walton High School graduate and former Marietta resident Malcolm Freberg, who was two shaky hands away from victory and the $1 million prize.

Freberg offered smarts, social skills and brawn, a killer combo that got him to the final four.  But as a result, he had a major target on his back. He needed to win the final immunity challenge to guarantee a shot at the money.

But when host Jeff Probst introduced it Sunday night as an endurance test which …

TV best bets with series finales of ‘Gossip Girl,’ ‘Jersey Shore’

“Jersey Shore.” Was it worth it?

  • Brought us plenty of harmless fun. Of course!
  • Ummm… no.

Gym. Tan. Leave.

That’s it for “The Jersey Shore” with its finale Thursday. MTV managed to stretch six seasons out of this show, including a side trip to Italy. It brought us plenty of catchphrases (I can’t tell you what “DTF” means but you can figure it out), drunken arrests, protests from Italian-Americans, fistfights and catfights, six pack abs and Snooki. Isn’t that great? Okay, maybe not for everybody but at one point, this show was drawing 9 million viewers a week.

Nowadays, it’s more like two or three million (including my wife). But it gave MTV a shot of steroids and now the channel is going to do a “Jersey Shore”-type show  in West Virginia called “Buckwild” next month. Can …

NeNe Leakes is now a bonafide actress. She’s on “The New Normal” on NBC after a stint on Fox’s “Glee.” So she has a good eye for bad acting – as in, Kenya Moore and Walter Jackson.

They are theoretically “a couple.” Kenya has been yammering about getting married and pressuring the poor man to put a ring on it. On the show, Walter is not doing a terribly convincing job acting as if he was all that into Kenya and her annoying self.

Last Monday, he told V-103 morning host Frank Ski that while he dated her years ago, he hadn’t heard from her in ages until Kenya asked him to be her boyfriend on the show. His friends told him it would be fun. He had no idea, though , that she’d be so pushy about “marriage.” Clearly, Kenya wanted a good …

Justin Lock leaves CBS Atlanta

justin lock

“Better Mornings Atlanta” meteorologist Justin Lock has left Atlanta to spend more time with family in South Carolina, said Kenny Lawrence, director of programming at CBS Atlanta.

He joined WGCL-TV in early 2010 for weekend work, then was placed on the “Better Mornings Atlanta” team featuring Brandon Rudat, Tracye Hutchins and Jennifer Valdez.

Lawrence said he isn’t sure if they are going to fill his slot or not.

Here was the biography on the website for Lock when he first got there:

Justin Lock joined CBS Atlanta News as a weekend meteorologist in March of 2010.
Weather has always been a passion of Justin’s. Growing up in Ohio, he was no stranger to nasty weather and even ‘till this day, the excitement of severe weather brings out the kid in him.
Justin graduated from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology. From tornadoes and hurricanes to blizzards he has forecasted it all.
Justin began his career as a morning …

- Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, of TLC, is getting a modest test run of a reality show called “Totally T-Boz” that debuts January 1 at 8 p.m. TLC only commissioned four episodes. It will air before the debut of “The Sisterhood,” another Atlanta-based reality show featuring preacher wives. I will talk to her before the debut to get more details. (Her TLC mate Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas will star in “Rachael v. Guy: Celebrity Food Cookoff” on January 6 on the Food Network. And both are working on casting a VH1 biopic about TLC.)

OWN two months ago signed an exclusive agreement to air all of Tyler Perry’s future TV shows. He has already started shooting two at his studios here in Atlanta:

A drama “The Haves and the Have Nots” is about the dynamics of the affluent Cryer family and the …

I interviewed Malcolm Freberg before “Survivor” debuted this fall because he grew up in Marietta and graduated from Walton High School, before going to Dartmouth College. He struck me as a bright frat-boy type who had a game plan going into “Survivor” and stuck with it.

Of course, as he was talking to me, he knew he had made it at least to the final four, which viewers discovered this past Wednesday. He has very good shot at winning the $1 million in the CBS show’s 25th incarnation.

He told me in September that his strategy was not to necessarily make friendships but be sensitive to people’s feelings. “People get confused,” he said. “This is not real life. The way I carry myself on the show isn’t the same way I …

I caught up with Leesburg’s own Phillip Phillips, winner of “American Idol,” at Star 94’s Jingle Jam at Gwinnett Arena Thursday afternoon before the show.

He looks much better than he did while on “Idol” nwo that he’s fully recovered from painful kidney stone surgery. And he seems to be in good spirits.

Heck, he just met Pres. Barack Obama and more enthusiastically, Neil Patrick Harris, at the Christmas tree lighting in Washington D.C., airing on TNT Dec. 21. “Starship Troopers!” he said. (I just checked and saw Psy of “Gangnam Style” fame was there, too. If I had known ahead of time, I would have asked if he knew the dance. I think not.)

He is enjoying all the travel, the performances, the whole rigamarole that being a rock singer involves so far. Being an “Idol” winner has its benefits – for now. And he’s more comfortable than ever with interviews.

He recently …
