Phaedra/Apollo conflict

Everyone’s relationships seemed so sanguine during the just concluded Anguilla trip – save for the Kenya Moore/Walter Jackson charade.

But a gossip website I’ve never heard of in July claimed Phaedra Parks and her husband Apollo were getting a divorce.

What? Where did that come from?

I somehow missed that so-called “news” at the time and five months later, it has not come to pass. But it became the primary storyline tonight in an episode which also featured a tepid rehash of what happened in Anguilla re: Kenya.

Peter Thomas, Cynthia Bailey’s husband, read about the Phaedra/Apollo rumors and everyone wondered what was going on.

The producers then tried mighty hard to show signs that there is real discord between Phaedra and Apollo which goes beyond normal marital issues.  Three examples:

1- Apollo and Phaedra argue over their booty video in front of Kenya, who is possibly going to produce it. (To give Kenya credit, she does sound like she knows what she’s talking about.) Kenya found the arguing “unprofessional.”

2- Phaedra – before her pastor, Kandi Burruss and Kandi’s boyfriend Todd – says marriage is hard, noting Apollo’s faults such as how he talks too much in the morning, doesn’t do the dishes, doesn’t fully appreciate how much hard work she does and (gasp!) leaves the toilet seat up.

3- Apollo, in front of Phaedra at the infamous Clermont Lounge strip club, talks about how he feels he’s changed since they got married. “I feel like I have lost the sense of who I am. I have turned into a different person. I want to be that funny, juviel (I think he meant jovial) person, who laughed and cracked jokes all the time.” Phaedra notes that she isn’t big on the club scene (though she obviously has nothing against strippers as we learned season four.)

Ultimately, at Bar One, the couple joke about the rumor and proceed to tongue each other in front of Miss Lawrence, Derek J, Kandi, Todd and the Bravo cameras.

For whatever reason, we never see the two of them talking about their relationship in front of the cameras one on one away from the others. So what does this all mean?  If they are really in trouble, perhaps they are choosing to keep their genuine issues behind closed doors. Or not.

We see teasers which don’t appear to continue this likely dead-on-arrival storyline.

And though we don’t hear about Apollo’s white collar crimes that led him to be in prison for six years, he did talk to Peter about being in solitary confinement for 16 months and not seeing daylight for that entire time. How he got into solitary is not noted but he did say when he did trash duty and was able to feel rain, he started to cry and felt momentarily like he was free.

In other housewives storylines:

Porsha tells her hubby she still wants twins (and can’t quite recall how many bedrooms are in her spacious home) and NeNe Leakes shoots a cover for Ebony magazine.

Kenya is annoyed that Walter misled her (or she misled herself) during the Anguilla trip.  She also felt he was getting really angry with her and that triggered her since she had been abused before by another boyfriend. (From what we saw last week, he didn’t seem all that angry but clearly, she’s sensitive.) After a few days of cooling off, she meets with him again in Atlanta. He tells her he loves her but not enough to marry her (just enough to play her boyfriend on the show.). She is annoyed but doesn’t break up with him immediately because that would crimp her story line. Better to keep stringing him along. Later, at Bar One, he pops in to have drinks with the guys but avoids her. She gets annoyed again.

She is also annoyed when Porsha tries to clear the air about what had happened before – again. Kenya would have none of it, saying she had no desire to be friends with her immature self and walks away. after a clipped “I can be a lady. I can be cordial.” Yes, we have learned: it takes virtually nothing to annoy her.

“I tried to be the bigger woman,” Porsha said. “Maturity doesn’t always come with age.”

“It’s atmosphere. It’s a distraction.” – Peter Thomas’ argument for men going to strip clubs. Cynthia is okay with him going once in awhile, just not every week.

“It’s obvious Phaedra is a novice and she needs help. I’m a little annoyed she isn’t better prepared. My time is valuable,” - Kenya, always trying to find a way to show how important she is.’

“At your age, you’re not married… and you consider yourself wife material.” – Walter, mocking Kenya and her unmarried self at age 40.

“I thought it was chic and posh. I have to do more research.” – Cynthia, cheekily talking about the Clermont Lounge after the fact since it is anything but chic and posh.

“I don’t live with time restraints. Time restraints are for people who have to abide by them.” – Apollo’s philosophy on life.

“I don’t have time to play nice with dumb dumb.”Kenya provides a gem of a nickname for poor, sweet Porsha.

“Bottom line: Walter’s not that into you. Move on.” - NeNe, who hits it on the mark.

The trailer shows more arguments between Kenya and Walter. NeNe goes “bicoastal” by moving at least part-time to Los Angeles.

Last week’s episode drew about 3.17 million viewers, which is above average for the season. It’s still about 250,000 viewers behind season four after eight episodes but comparisons will begin to get easier because ratings began to sag at this point a year ago.

I cracked up when they rolled up to the infamous Clermont Lounge. That’s the one place a female can go if she has body issues and realize that whatever she thinks is wrong with her, it ain’t all that bad. Cellulite and varicose veins ain’t never stopped nobody’s fun.

Nothing going on with Phaedra & Apollo. Their marriage is fine. She is pregnant again. The pictures came out this weekend.

Kenya is growing on me. Walter is a bad actor and so … flat. He sure gets the name of his towing company into as many scenes as possible.

Would someone please tell Porsha the difference between pitcher and picture? “People say I live a pitcher-perfect life.” Not bright. She makes grammar/usage/pronunciation mistakes like that in every show, too.

Porsha is the only genuine Atlanta housewife the show has ever had. Her accent and speech pattern are pure Atlanta. Hope Kenya gets fired for cooking up the fake romance with Walter.

Clermont Lounge is not “infamous.” I’d say it’s famous (locally). Infamy relates to someone or someplace whose name is known because of something terrible.

After many years of this show, NeNe is now the sensible one after being the most outspoken “bitch” before. Porsha is just a pretty girl with a big ass and dumd as hell. Kenya is a drama queen who could reel in a man if he was welded to the line. Any guy will run from this big ass drama queen with a temper. Phaedra must really want to destroy what little good rep she has in the legal community by being a part of this train wreck. And all these other (questionalble business) ventures she’s involving herself in shows that she is ADD and can’t stick with any one thing. Kandi and Cynthia just need to stay close to their significant others and keep the drama out of their homes and their relationships. Friends will destroy you quicker than most enemies. Real talk!!

Porsha is Yaaawnnnnn and her husband should not be on television undressed..YUCK!!! Mountain Man is WHITE TRASH!

Walter has free publicity and he is taking advantage of it. I can’t believe they showed those horrible strippers on television. I loved the kiss between phadra and apollo! Cynthia is starting to get on my nerves. she was my favorite and now she is my least favorite, second to boring Porsha and her ugly hubby.

The website Peter mentioned is Freddy O is a photographer in Atl that also runs a celeb gossip website- that focuses a lot on the reality shows that are filmed in Atlanta. How you cover reality shows in Atlanta but have never hear of FreddyO is shocking to me but, I guess… Yeah Phaedra is preggers but how many married women get pregnant to try and save their marriage when they know its on the rocks???

NeNe seems much more “into” the show this year. She’s not an angry black woman any more. Love it! I marvel at her success given her limited intellect. Kenya is getting off the great one-liners this year. “Read a book!” to Porsha, for example. Kenya also made 3 references last night to the value of her time. Yes, she does seem to know her stuff about producing! Beautiful eyes, too.

Kenya’s “Make it stop!” and “You’re on repeat!” to Cynthia were priceless lines. Even Cynthia started laughing. It was a great way to handle the situation. Kudos to Kenya!

Why does Kenya this she is still relevant???!!! Well, at least her creditors know where to find her. She is tired and too obsessed with making herself look better than she is. I am loving the show since Kim Zolciak left. There’s still drama but it’s not that bad and does not involve everyone on the show. It’s much much better without Kim and Sheree, otherwise known as the Haters. Can’t wait to see NeNe’s little grandbaby next week. She looks so pretty and adorable.

Kenya is “relevant” (maybe most overused word of 2012?) because she was Miss USA — not easy to achieve. And, she’s entertaining, Porsha — I mean Miss Jai. Was NeNe “relevant” when she started on RHOA? Kim Zolciak? Sheree Whitfield? This is entertainment, not the “Who’s relevant in 2012″ show.

@ Actual Atlanta Housewife et al.. – The revelation of Kenya’s “fake relationship” with Walter, makes it hard to stomach watching any scene involving the two of them or any side-bar solo interview commentary she offers up regarding the situation. There is two words to describe her best, Tired and Batty.

@Miss Jai – Consider her overall life experience, I find it abit odd that NeNe is so disattached from her oldest son and seemlingly has allowed him to fly so far off the rails in life. Dude is so completely lacking direction its not funny. It makes me fear for the state of her youngest son. Hopefully Greg has the boy grounded, while mommy is living “bi-coastal”.

In “real” life, it sounds like Apollo did, in fact, live his life with “time restraints.” I think Rodney told us those restraints were for about six years. And it was his “silly” and “jovial” self who landed himself in prison, so that’s not a good starting point.

I REALLY enjoyed last night’s show. Peter was gut busting! Apollo was just like Pheadra said he was “talking and not knowing what he is talking about”. – That was hillarious! However, Kenya Moore is an example of what black women should not be. She is a prime example of low self esteem, jealous hearted and discontentment. Although she has accomplished so much, she does not see the value in herself. But instead of humbling herself, she raises herself by stomping on others. SHE NEEDS LIFE LONG THERAPY!!. Whether or not her relationship with Walter is real, it shows desperation at it’s best. Everything she says is coming from an ugly place because she just can’t accept the fact that she is lacking in areas that other excel. I don’t care about her past and the hardships she has had. We all have had some. But you just don’t crap on others and make small of them and their accomplishments to make yourself look big. Get ANOTHER life Kenya Moore. You are a heartfelt embarrassement to us!

If NeNe left the show, it wouldn’t be worth watching. I’m happy that both Kim
and Sheree are no longer cast members (they both suck). Kenya is psycho and too full of herself. Wonder why she and all her greatness can’t get a man. Porsha is sweet (may be too innocent to hang with mountain lions).

Congratulations NeNe! You are the show – I like Cynthia too (classy and pretty).

I must be looking at a different show cause I don’t see Porsha as being attractive at all. She just has a nice skin tone. I don’t see her as being all that sweet either, but more of a spoiled brat who doesn’t understand struggle and hardship. I could do without her really. People say “oooh Kenya sucks” and “omg, she faked her relationship with Walter” and all this crap, but Kenya is making the show this season, sorry! If her and Nene were to leave, the show wouldn’t be as good. I will say it is better since Kim left. Unlike so many women who have posted harsh comments about Kenya, I’m going to give the girl props. She looks good! Even if she did fake her relationship with Walter, well, at least Bravo gave her a chance to be on the show! At least Kenya has a name for herself. What does Porsha have? *crickets* I’ll wait…

I watch the show from time to time for entertainment only. I attended Spelman College, after graduation I returned to Illinois enrolled at UIC and earned my Masters Degree in Psychology. I’m a psychologist @ Juvenile Detention Center of Cook County. I really wish our community would step back and really take a good long hard look at our community. Our children are committing serious crimes younger, they don’t understand the importance of education, many have no clue about simple things such as proper hygiene, respect, etc. Our children are being raised by children, grandparents are nonexistent or they are too old to care for children that social services placed in their homes. When young girls watch shows like this they assume that they can make it in life without education, effort, or simple common sense. They want fast money, big cars, big homes, etc. They don’t understand that you have to try to follow rules of society and become productive respectable citizens. At times their conversations are so salacious&inappropriate. They think its ok to use profane language in front of adults or small children. I’m no angel& far from perfect, but my parents taught me to respect my elders&others in public&at home. What happened to us trying to help00 each other, remember, “it takes a village TO RAISE CHILDREN. When young women watch RHOA adult women arguing, fighting, over drinking, dancing erotically on television, etc. they assume poor behavior is acceptable.RHOA could use that platform to assist and motivate young girls. I don’t understand the male bashing either. There are still good, employed black men in this world. Instead of women putting each other down, focus on the positive each other. WAKE U PPL!!!!
