Frank Ski and Wanda Smith leaving V-103; Ryan Cameron takes over in January

Loading ...As anticipated, Frank Ski announced Thursday morning that he is leaving R&B/hip-hop station V-103 after 14 years. As a result, an hour later, his on-air partner Wanda Smith said she is out as well.
Atlanta native and long-time afternoon host Ryan Cameron will take over mornings in January. Big Tigger, a former BET “106 & Park” host last heard on the radio in D.C., will take over afternoons.
“We will definitely miss waking up every morning and coming into this studio and doing what we do every day, but we know God has other plans and other things He wants us to do,” Ski said on air. Later, he added, “I want to expand and grow.”
He said their final day will be Thursday, Dec. 20.
Ski also said he doesn’t plan to leave Atlanta (though his Dunwoody home is now for sale for $2.2 million). He promised he will be heard again on the radio but wasn’t specific. Most personalities have a six-month “non-compete” which will keep him off the air during that time period.
Rick Caffey, market manager for V-103 since 1994, said Ski wanted a syndication deal to expand his footprint beyond Atlanta but the two sides couldn’t come to agreement. “We want to stay local,” he said. At the same time, he gave kudos for Ski and Smith for their “outstanding service.”

Ski , 48, read a formal statement on air just past 7 a.m. today. He noted how he moved to the city with his wife Tanya from Baltimore in 1998. He said Atlanta has participated with him in his biggest personal moments, including the births of his three children. He mentioned his weekend DJ club gigs, becoming friends with some of Atlanta’s biggest politicians, including the late Maynard Jackson and the current mayor Kasim Reed. He recalled how he was the last person to interview Coretta Scott King, how he met Pres. Barack Obama before he became president, how he got to interview convicted child killer Wayne Williams. He mentioned all the travel he did all around the world and forming his Frank Ski Kids Foundation. He referenced 9′/11, Hurricane Katrina and Jena 6. He also noted his new restaurant he opened last year.
“This is not a good-bye, Atlanta, but instead to be continued… very soon,” he said.
Ski’s show with partner Smith was No. 1 for virtually the entire time he’s been on air here over his entire run at V-103, typically drawing one million listeners a week.
In a poll on my blog speculating on the change yesterday, about 56 percent guessed correctly that Ski was leaving.
The No. 1 station in the market will replace him with afternoon host Cameron, a move many have been anticipating for years. The minute he returned to V-103 in 2004, the speculation began. Cameron, nicknamed the “Ryan King,” is insanely popular in this town. He gets a fare higher percentage of positive comments on this blog than Ski. Three years ago during Ski’s last negotiations, I had posted a poll asking folks what they thought of Cameron moving to mornings. A vast majority were supportive of that move, but V-103 chose to keep Ski at the time.
Cameron returned to V-103 as afternoon host more than eight years ago after a long stint as morning host on rival Hot 107.9 (originally Hot 97.5). He was paid morning host money to be the afternoon guy, a luxury V-103 could afford. He was able to live normal working hours compared to morning hosts as well.
But alas, the time has come and Cameron’s move will occur the first week of January. Cameron’s new show, Caffey said, will include Chris “Crash” Clark and a third person who has yet to be hired. (That’s fueling rumors that Elle Duncan, now a traffic reporter for 11 Alive, might come back.)
Bottom line: Ski couldn’t come to an agreement with CBS Radio for a new contract. I’m not sure if he was asking for too much or if CBS gave him such an insultingly low offer, he couldn’t stomach it and was willing to walk. He has been under a temporary contract the past couple of months as the two sides negotiated.

Smith tearfully gave her goodbye during the 8 a.m. hour. She clearly didn’t want to leave but she was collateral damage in a sense. She recalled how she was performing at Club Echelon in 2007 before 1,000 people. Then V-103 Program Director Tony Brown saw her stand-up comedy and impressed, he brought her on the Mike & Carol Show in 1997. A year later, when V-103 dropped Mike Roberts and Carol Blackmon for Ski, they kept Smith. The show was originally called the Frank Ski Show but eventually, she earned the dual Frank and Wanda Morning Show moniker.
A Florida native, Smith said she has adopted Atlanta as her home. “It’s been fun. It’s been overwhelming… Atlanta has been good to me,” she said.
At 8:55 a.m., comic, game show host and talk show host Steve Harvey (who is heard on rvial station Majic 107.5/97.5 locally) called in and lamented Ski’s departure, saying CBS got it wrong.”You’re a classy guy,” he said. “People made a mistake… Thank you for all the years of service to Atlanta.”
Ski said he has no ill will toward his bosses. “We did everything we could” during negotiations, he said. “I just thought there was so much more I could do.”
Fellow syndicated morning rival Rickey Smiley (heard locally on Hot 107.9) called in at 9:09 a.m., thanking Ski and Smith for putting Smiley on the map when he was an up-and-coming stand-up comic. “I’m looking forward to having you make appearances on my sitcom,” Smiley said. “You put a lot of comics on the map. And your restaurant is the nicest in the country. You are my family. We’re all just friends. Congratulations and God bless you.”
Smith then joked, wondering if Michael Baisden (heard locally on rival Majic in the afternoons) will call in. Indeed, at 9:34 a.m., Baisden did. “What the hell is going on? My Twitter is blowing up, dude!” he said. “To me as a friend, you’ve always been very supportive of me. You were genuinely happy for me… You’ve given so much to the community.”
Mayor Reed called in at 9:18 a.m.: “This is a victory lap… Frank and Wanda will continue to be part of the city. They’ve been the voice of Atlanta.”

Fourteen years ago, V-103 General Manager Rick Caffey and I set out to create a morning show that was
informative, entertaining and inspirational — and year after year, you’ve blessed us with #1 ratings in
every age category.
I’m beyond blessed to get paid to do what I love most, to be on the radio with more than a million
listeners every week. I have enjoyed waking you up every morning, deejaying the hottest parties every
week and whether it be in the streets, the grocery store, your school, a football game or in places of
worship, I have truly enjoyed getting to know you and your family.
When I moved here in 1998, I was newly married and hadn’t even started my family. Major milestones
and defining moments have happened while on the airwaves of V-103. My children were born here in
Atlanta, and you shared in that joy — all three times. Tanya & I started the Frank Ski Kids Foundation a
decade ago, and because you supported our annual Kids Week, Youth Bowl and Wine Tastings, you made
it possible for us to expose hundreds of kids to their future, and ultimately, realize their dreams.
I’ve grown personally from interviewing those who have made Atlanta the great city it is, and I’ve
flourished from genuine relationships with people like Maynard Jackson, Andy Young, Bill Campbell,
Bernice King, Shirley Franklin and my good friend, Kasim Reed, whose individual legacies will live
forever.
Atlanta, you’ve allowed me to bring so many important triumphs and tragedies to life. To be blessed with
the last interview with Ms. Coretta Scott King, challenged by the jail interview with convicted murderer
Wayne Williams, and completely honored to interview the young Senator from Chicago, President Barack
Obama. The list goes on — from the iconic and unforgettable Whitney Houston to the incomparable living
legend, Mr. Stevie Wonder, you’ve witnessed and experienced countless defining moments with me.
You encouraged me when I flew to New York hours after 9-11, when I drove to Louisiana for the Jena 6
story and even when we pulled our entire city together to raise hundreds and thousands of dollars for
Hurricane Katrina victims. You’ve been there when I suffered a loss, and when the hard work allowed me
to try things I never could have dreamed for myself.
We’ve traveled around the world together… to Asia, Africa, South America and beyond, and have returned
home with deeper connections to each other and our communities. You celebrated with me in 2011 when
my dream to open a restaurant became a reality. I thank you for all of those shared times — the laughter,
the tears and the victories.
And with that, Atlanta, I have decided to end my tenure with V-103
My decision to leave my V-103 family has been one of the most important and most spiritual decisions of
my life. For years, I’ve delivered the Inspirational Vitamin and have told you to live by faith, not fear, and

I’ve encouraged you to ‘Let Go and Let God’ — and now it’s time for me to do the same.
It’s time for me to walk in faith — but chase my passions and spiritual purpose to expand my brand &
grow. It’s time for me to explore other opportunities that will allow me to serve more people on a greater
level.
Thank you to General Manager, Rick Caffey, for believing in my talent, and allowing me to be the leader

Yep that was my guess yesterday and my speculation for months since Ryan has been “Looking for a co-host” for the afternoon. I always suspected he was looking for his replacement since he was subbing alot on the Frank Ski show.

Good riddance, Frank and hopefully Wanda! I have long stopped listening to them after Mike/Carol. Wanda is ghetto and Frank is too opionated. I can’t stand the mix. But what disturbs me the most is this: Inspirational Vitamin and booty music afterwards. Really??? ATL can do better than these two cats. I never listen to V103-no variety of music whatsoever. If you’re not 2 Chainz or singing about dropping it low-you will get no airtime on this station. Good BYE!!!!

It is breaking news that Frank Ski is leaving V-103. Just like you remember where you were during 9/11, what song was playing on the radio when you got your first kiss, what was said during hot topics, when the city and nation have been faced with major decisions, when you needed parenting advice on a subject you hadn’t thought about or dare mention, Frank and Wanda in the morning was there 5 days a week for 14 years. And beyond the regular morning drive, they are staples in my community with thier service seven days a week. So yes, Frank Ski leaving V103 is breaking news.

I really don’t keep up with this radio personality stuff…just heard the news and my feelings are as
my dad would say when I was a kid talking about entertainers “are they paying any of your bills get
an education, that’s more important!!”
I wish them the best (Frank & Wanda) but I have no emotional ties! I stopped listening years ago.
The show and DJ’s did make great community contributions. On the flip side however, I did take
issue with some of the classless music, topics of conversations, guest etc.

Frank, please learn how to conjugate the verb ‘to see’. “I seen” is incorrect as seen always takes a participle as in “I have seen”. I have been listening to your incorrect for grammar for years and this error is particulary grating.

Some folks just love to hate, regardless of the topic or the situation. Even if you were not a fan of Frank and Wanda, what did they ever do to you to deserve such Haterade? It was a radio show – Hello! – and it was entertainment that served its purpose for those it appealed to. Some of you need to get lives, and begin to figure out what you want to be when you grow up, cuz you are not going to be able to feed your family by being a hater. @Delphi…You forgot to add that the “Inspiratioal Vitamin” comes from Joel Olsteen Ministries “Today’s word with Joel & Victoria” that he ad libs. I honestly thought these were his thoughts and he was so deep until I was reading my email and he was doing the vitamin at the same time.

as having been a fan of v103 when it started in august of 1976 i have listed to all of the changes at the station–i remember when before v103 there was only one fm station to listen to r&b and that was not on a daily format was wqxi on sunday nights for jazz flavors.Remembering when Mike Roberts and Robin Roberts had the morning slots at pretty much the beginning– things have changed so much!! Good luck Frank Ski–i kinda enjoyed a lot of what you did at v103–you were the longest dj there and that says something!!!!

I’m so glad to see Frank Ski go! It will be so nice to have a person who is actually from Atlanta like Ryan who is so down to earth and funny have the morning slot. I’m 26 years, born in Miami but have been living in Atlanta since my parents moved here when I was 6 so I’m Atlien 4 real and I got sick of Frank Ski constantly name dropping other cities and celebrities and just the constant fakeness!
Another thing I don’t like is that these people that worship Frank are just as ignorant as he is. Frank constantly speak of people “hating on him” and he’s entirely too old for such lingo and many of his worshipers say the same ignorant things just because his critics don’t like Frank Ski as they seem to think we should.
The laughing hyena Wanda needs to take her gold teefes no funny self somewhere too because I really don’t feel that she and Ryan make a good match. I long stopped listening to their show but if Ryan is there, I will surely start back listening to morning drive….

I will miss Wanda & Frank. Being from miami it was so good hearing their voice in the morning. God has bless them to help so many people over the years. No matter what people say about them every DJ has their own way being on the radio. I’m so honor to be able to listen to them in the morning they allow me to smile, cry and give praise.
I want Frank & Wanda to know I will truly miss them so much from being on the air. Especially Wanda with the jokes —THANK you because some days I was so down and listening to her brighten up my day.
Frank thank you for the blessing and the gospel we will need that in our lives.

I am sadden to see Frank Ski leave. He really brought class to Atlanta, and kept things interesting. He showed a different side of living, where African Americans can live just as well as other races and have just as much fun and entertainment as others. He has been good for Atlanta. I have appreciated his knowledge and wisdom. He does have some arrogant ways, lol, but it has worked for his benefit and we as a people should take note on that. May God bless Wanda and him. Wanda is such a sweet heart and she complimented Frank. Frank and Wanda, you will do good no matter what. I will miss you both!!!!!!!

My goodness, how will we all survive without Frank Ski and Wanda? I mean there are no other AM or FM stations to listen to, there is no such thing as XM or Sirius, most of us don’t have CDs we can insert or a MP3 playlist we can plug in, books on CD or tape or MP3 file are not around, and it is not as if other morning show hosts haven’t passed us by (such as Mike and Carol, The Morning X, etc.).

I remember when Frank’s son played youth league football in Tucker. In the younger leagues the parents took turns calling the games on the PA system. Not Frank… he said he wasn’t doing it because he wasn’t getting paid. Imagine how good his son would have felt to hear his dad call his game. It’s so sad to see all the jealousy and hate for two of Atlanta’s radio icons. Although, I’m not the biggest fan of Frank and Wanda, they have done for the city of Atlanta and to help the people of the city. Especially the African American community. They’ve raised thousands to help feed the homeless. Helped homeless families find homes. They’ve assisted disabled veterans to get financial and psychological help in order to reenter society. Their Christmas toy drive have given toys to kids throughtout the city who other wise wouldn’t have anything at all. And Frank Ski has given thousands of dollars of his own money to help needy families and kids through his Franks Ski foundation and his youth football program. How many people that are hating on them on here can say that? I’m not the biggest fan of the show, but love them or hate them, they have done alot for the city of Atlanta and should be recognized for their contribution. All this jealousy and hate is just blocking your own blessing. Best of luck Frank and Wanda. I’m sure there are only better things to come.

People are soooo silly and evil. They had their show for 15 years. That is a long time to hold down a job. That is also the time they took to help so many people. I must admit I did not listen to the show often, but I was always proud and impressed at how they used their celebrity and platform to help so many people without question. For all of those people with the negative comments- Really?! Someone must have been listening because they had the number one radio show for so long. Also if you hate it so much – change the station- ITS FREE people. I wish them both the greatest success- its a business. I suggest they get a satellite radio show- lots of money in that. Frank & Wanda will be fine. I haven’t listened to them in years, but I always see them involved with community projects. Frank is accused of being a name dropper, but he is a radio personality and if you listen to the other personalities, they all do it. They have their supporters and they will be missed, but they will be fine. Not sure if it’ll be on local radio but you will hear them again … Now as for Ryan Cameron – if he hints that he wants your airtime watch out – he’ll be in that spot sooner or later, ask Porche (LOL)

I’ve outgrown V-103 years ago but I still liked Frank as a morning host. Ryan C. is not funny at all so that will not bring me back either. But then again I am not the market for V-103 anymore. Plus Pandora is much better, one commericial every now and then. When I want talk most of the shows have apps where you can listen to what you missed anyway.

I have mixed feelings about the announcement. Frank & Wanda introduced me to Atlanta and were my #1 radio station for most of the years I’ve lived here. I still listen time to time, when I know their doing their “work” in the community. Say what you will about the music (THAT is why I stopped listening to V103), but you CANNOT deny their work. They have contributed to the Atlanta metro community in great ways. Introducing people to traveling, undertaking activities that most (black) people wouldn’t have ever thought about doing, bringing awareness to issues affecting our communities, and most of all, showing our children another way. Whatever you feel about the station and its playlist, you CANNOT deny their work! God bless you both in your future endeavors.

Frank and Wanda will be missed as they gave Atlanta a rare commodity in urban radio, intelligence and heart. Another rare commodity is being the top rated morning show in Atlanta the last 14 years.
There is no way that station will remain number one that much longer particularly if they move the evening unintelligent, ignorant, ghetto inspired music & personality from the evening to the morning. That station will loose listeners with any degree of intellegence. CBS is making a huge mistake.

Wow…I am so shocked by this “news”. I also am shocked by the vitreous comments that so many people have made about Frank and Wanda and the personal attack comments. My station of choice is 107.5 and I listen to V-103 every now and then because basically I am older and don’t care for the music format of this station. However, Frank and Wanda have done some great things for the city. Yes, I too think Frank was a bit arrogant and a name dropper, but his show did take the time to address political issues and other issues that affected the city of Atlanta. As two human beings, I wish them the very best in their future endeavors and their voices will be missed in the morning.

Frank ran out on the league and pee-wee football team he was coaching at Murphy Candler because his son was not good enough to make the cut on the travel team (colts) a couple of years ago. WOW! some of these comments about Frank and Wanda are pretty harsh. Im glad I had the pleasure of hearing them make me laugh, cry and be inspired. Rather you realize it or not, this morning show has the being the pulse and heart and soul of Atlanta. I think about all the tragedies that have happened since I moved here in 2004 and I think about all the wonderful things they have done to give back to the community especially during the holidays. The city I moved from would NEVER be so generous and giving. This is a sad day for the people of Atlanta. No matter what you say about Frank and Wanda, they will be dearly missed.

I think Frank Ski is great in Atlanta. He does very good things in the community and with children.
With that being said, I stopped listening to the show back when Mr. Sofia was on the air. With all of the bad english from all three, I just could not take it.
Add in the top 20 terrible songs pushed every hour (programmed from the glass towers) in another state and it just was not worth listening to anymore.
Radio with its terrible strip club hip hip along with hosts who butcher English just isn’t working.
I have no problem with ebonics especially when spoken with friends, but on air? Naw, this is just what the community does not need.
By Frank…good luck. Wanda…I’ve heard that they have English as a second language at several local schools. Try to get in on one of those classes. Ebonics as a first language…will not get you far after leaving V103.

This is a sad time in Atlanta for those who truly enjoyed Wanda and Frank. I personally really don’t care one way or another. We are all replaceable. They have done well for 14 years. Their season is done. and time for a new season. Frank is a very educated black man and had a wealth of knowledge and was informative to the black community. However, he was to opinionated and always named dropped. As I got older over the years, I could not bare to listen with Wanda making fun of everything. There is a time to be serious. I stopped listening to Frank and Wanda three years ago, so I’m not sad that they are leaving. I think it’s time. The morning show needs new blood and a whole new format. Most morning shows now have a team of hosts, 3 or more to break up the monotony of having one or two hosts doing the same thing every day. I think both Frank and Wanda will have bright futures in whatever they choose to do. And I like Ryan, but I’m not that excited about the idea of him hosting the morning show. I really thing V-103 needs to go with a whole new line up. Fresh, talented faces that will excited the morning show. And give Crash D a show of his own. He’s a good host. He’s been doing the traffic/sidekick thing far too long.

I like talk radio in the morning and very seldom did they talk…mostly MUSIC and COMMERCIALS! Got old, I moved on. My choice. I’ll definitely tune in to hear what he has to say. I only listen to one show on V-103, and it’s the Frank and Wanda morning show. It’s 1380 WAOK for the rest of the day, with sports talk radio sprinkled in. I may be on AM radio all day depending on who the new morning host is. I can care less for the most of the music that’s played on the morning show, but I think that may just be due to where I am in my life. Time brings change, and change comes with time.

I stopped listening to Frank and Wanda about a year ago because I’ve outgrown them. I wish them the best on they’re journey. However, I do enjoy listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Steve plays good music, is very funny, and has a classier sense of style. His station knows how to incorporate silly and serious subjects with out one overbearing the other as oppose to Frank and Wanda who played that horrible hip hop music of today that no one understands and Wanda’s comical personality was a bit much at times. Does anyone know the name of the pastor that aired in the segment on the Frank Ski show this morning? I heard part of it and it was wonderful! I hope they post it online at V103’s website. Godspeed Frank Ski! Wanda, even though you are a TAB bit too much for me, Godspeed to you as well.

After reading a few of the comments it has painfully apparent that few here really ever listened to Frank and Wanda or had any respect for all the “Good” their morning show has done for the city of Atlanta. Even if you never appreciated Franks corny remarks or Wanda’s borderline comments no one who has supported some many families and broken down so many walls from the post of a morning show DJ.

This goes to show how disloyal Atlantans are! If they were appreciative of Frank Ski or Wanda, they’d be all over CBS to keep them on. I’ll miss listening to them in the mornings and Ryan C. can sux it! LOL!!

I never listened to Frank & Wanda’s morning show, but after the fiasco that is 92.9 The Game, I imagine CBS Radio gave Frank Ski a low-ball offer to stay on and he thought he could do better elsewhere. Either that or he was asking for more money.

It’s about time. Frank was did not know how to hold a conversation without interrupting – annoying. Wanda and her excessive ‘wow’s’ ‘ah’s’ and ‘yes’s’ – annoying. And don’t get me started on her horrible commercial reads in that sing songy fake voice and her horrible grammar – embarrassing (and WHY oh WHY did the higher ups at V103 ever correct her?! classy). Wish them both the best but won’t miss them one bit. #teamryan

Most of you making these HATERS comments are BLACK. V103 IS THE NUMBER ONE STATION in the city. We (Black people) need to embrace one another when we are going through turmoil. What if we did not have Black radio and had to listen to all white music and never got any information about the Black community by not having Black radio. Frank and Wanda thank you for passing through.

Love Frank and Wanda, but they are too old for their audiance. Frank is respected like a dad, but not as a peer. Wanda is just a side kick. Rayan C. is boring. The station needs to develop new and young talent. What about all those young interns that give so much during the summer? Don’t they deserve an opportunity? I am sure they are talented and mostly educated. New talent means new listeners with new ideas, and maybe a rebirth for the station. Introduce and market a new “hot” talent. The time is now….. Stop looking back to yesterday and bring on tomerrow.

YES YES YES!!! I’m a real ATLien. Not a transplant. When Frank came here in 1998, it was awful. All his sentences started with “the problem with Atlanta is”, “new york is better because”, “baltimore is better because”, “up north, it’s better” blah blah blah. The name dropping was unbearable.
He turned a LOT of ATLiens off immediately. I remember hoping and praying the guy would be ran out of town within a few years. Sadly it took 14 years for Ryan (a REAL ATLien) to get his shot. Ryan is real, not fake.

Am sad to see them go, but I did not like the way Frank Ski spoke about women and dating in Atlanta, he has NOOO clue what he was talking about.I will miss the show though.
But Rayan Cameron needs to stay where he is at in the afternnon, he is too funny and it would not jive well for morning,but if they do decide to give it to Ryan, Crash D better be there for the ride.

Frank was bearable he’s actually a pretty good party DJ- His side-kick however did absolutely nothing but support the downward spiraling image of my people- (especially women). I long ago stopped listening because the show was a liability to the culture of Atlanta that once (still is but slowly declining) was a beacon for success and mobility for people of color.

I can not stand Frank Ski he talked about all his friends except Bill Campbell. When Campbell was caught burning down strip clubs and cheating on his wife every Ski would let come on his show and give his reason why the media was out to get him. Ski did nothing for black people in Atlanta he had may girl friends and he ripped off night club owners if he worked for them.I will miss Wanda this sister came up the hard way and she made her self into something I wish her nothing but the best.

I moved from Atlanta to Dallas in 2010 due to a job relocation and I listen to Frank & Wanda every morning before going to work. You set the bar for the radio! The fun, the laughter, the joy, the pain, the healing, the inspiration, and most of all the REALNESS!!! I THANK YOU BOTH! The chemistry that the two of you had on radio is going to be hard to match among radio personalities. December 21, 2012 will be last day to tune in to V-103. I LOVE YOU FRANK & WANDA!

I am saddened that they are departing. They did such great things for people, the community. The inspirational vitamin inspired people who probably never even stepped foot in a church or even once opened a bible. I like Ryan Cameron, as an Atlanta native myself, he is a cool guy, but sometimes he is just too silly. Frank and Wanda talked about things that really mattered. Good luck to everyone and everything comes to an end.

Never listen to the Guy, but I guess we all have to make a living in something. I prefer the gospel radio broadcast at 102. or some nice ol school, and rarely ever listen to that garbage the other stations put out. Sad to hear of his departure, but from the sounds of things on this blog it appears there was a love/hate/hate relationship with his platform and commmentary. As for the eatery, and yes I call it an eatery, too pricey for the taste. But as I said we all must make a living in something. But here are some things I dont consider monumental in his career, he got the last interview with Coretta Scott King,(thats not monumental, its just an interview). He met Obama before he was president..LMAO, so did I in 2006 in DC(so whats the point, many folks knew him before he was president). As far as travel, good for you we all travel when we can afford it. Just saying those few things dont make you a special person, just makes you human.

Wanda is way too ghetto and Frank way too opinionated. I haven’t actually listened to that show in over 5 years. Once they made Wanda a permanent part of the show I was done. She’s way too rude and ghetto to be a morning on air personality. Frank makes blanket statments without any foundation as if he’s an expert on everything. He once stated that you really didnt’ need a college degree to succeed in life. That’s the worst advice I’ve ever heard. But that’s how he pushes his opinion. Very reckless! But I do wish him success. He know’s how to get a party jumping. Matter of fact, most Atanta DJ’s play the exact same songs that he plays in the exact same order. I call them cookie cutter DJ’s. He is the true original DJ for the music that Atlanta clubs play.

I think that Frank and Wanda was ‘Excellent’…. I don’t think I will continue to listen if Ryan Cameron is put in place…. I liked him better when he was at 97.5 FM…. But V-103 in the mornings is definitely ‘NOT HIS PLACE’. I wish Frank and Wanda the best and hopefully we will hear you ‘both’ on the radio very very soon again. Frank Ski would be good as a talk radio host on entertainment and daily events. He is connected to enough people in ATL and he is able to speak on serious topics affecting the community. He has done a lot of good with his Foundation and I’m sure he will be fine at whatever he chooses. Wanda’s niche is definitely comedy clubs. She should also consider starting an organization that gives her some depth beyond comedy and morning show host.

It’s a good and bad thing that Frank and Wanda are leaving. I think their season has run out. We all knew that Frank wanted more MONEY! But what was CBS reason for letting Wanda go? Did she try asking for more BUCKS too? If so she should have just keep her mouth closed and it could have possibly been the Wanda Morning show. Anywho good move for Ryan but he’s going to have to bring it BIG…really BIG. I don’t listen much to V-103 in the mornings becasue it was getting too boring. And Wanda and Frank us fought too much over dumb stuff really! Needless to say Frank is already a MILLIONAIRE….he’s getting ready to release his wine, heard clothing line, wife owns shops and heard he was opening a club! Now for Wanda it will be interesting to see where she’s lands. She state she needed rest, well now she will get plenty as neither of them can be on any radio for 6 months. Per their contract.

Interesting that Frank and Ryan used to go head-to-head in the morning drive time when Ryan was over at HOT 107.9, now, years later, Ryan is taking over Frank’s slot at the V. Frank and Wanda will be missed. There were times when I got annoyed with Wanda, but overall they were a great morning show. Frank has done a lot for the community.

SAT radio is the way to go…but now most shows are commercial free (or limited commercial breaks) but does anyone remember when Cable TV first came out…
All of the programming was commercial free – this is why they told us we needed to pay a fee ….today…(with the exception of most of the movie channels) there’s commercials on every cable network and yet each year the cable company’s are asking us to pay more and more.

I really like Frank and Wanda and hate to see them leave. With that said, I can see why V is moving in a different direction. When Frank and Wanda first started 14 years ago, I was just turning 30 and hated them all the way. Now that I am 40+, I appreciate them so much more because I have matured. I love Frank’s inspiration and have been cultured through the many trips that he has been on with the kids and his knowledge of different subjects. BUT!!! I am now 40+. V’s main audience is the single young African Americans. Frank in my opinion appeals across all ages, but not as much to the 20 and early 30 yr olds as he does to the late 30 and up crowd. Regardless, I wish them the best of luck. I have grown to love and respect Frank and will be following him. If he decides to run for office one day and I have the power to vote for him, he has earned it from me. If he becomes syndicated, I will be listening.

I stopped listening to V-103 after Mike and Carol left. I just couldn’t stomach listening to Frank and Wanda. They were awful. I was surprised that they lasted this long. I guess it just goes to show how much we as a country give our money and time to people that don’t deserve it. I really can’t listen to that awful music that they play on the air from all those non-singers. Glad to see them leaving.

Ryan Cameron is definitely an excellent fit, I think he know’s the city very well and is passionate about his work. He will do well…..i just don’t know how my evening drive will be now that he is gone but I so look forward to waking up to the Ryan King, best thing V-103 could have done. I thank Frank Ski & Wanda for their service but It was evident their time was up!, Frank had so much going on the restaurant, Frank Ski Bowl, Youth Foundation, Etc. He did do some great things for the kids & citizens. I wwish them peace, love and happiness and they can enjoy the Holidays with their families. Be Blessed Frank & Wanda.

In the beginning I was a fan of the show but when they began to get a little Ghetto and had other side kicks on the show it caused me to turn to another station. I guess I grew up and got sophisticated over time and started to listen to the grown folks station. But I’m going to admit, when I want to get a little crunk in the moring I will tune into V103 for a little while …. other than that I wish the best for Wanda and Frank Ski. GOOD LUCK GUYS!!!!!

Face it….the shows numbers were dropping. Frank wanted a syndicated show.. really??? You couldn’t carry the one you had before. And asking for more money…not gonna happen. Wanda just got caught in the situation cause she was a part of the show… Don’t think she would have felt comfortable staying on. Hope Ryan gets the morning slot. Wow…..so much ATL hate seen in these comments, but why would I expect anything less! Listened to 106.3 periodically, but thought the hard core rap was too much and lord knows when so many abused women are coming to the ATL and being more abused, we don’t need any more of that! I did enjoy the positivity in Frank Ski, and often felt he attempted to teach his listeners about doing the right thing because he knew WHO and WHAT his audience was and is about! The music Frank Ski played was total opposite of how he appeared to live his life while helping others. I just hoped he reached some of the many dumb nuckle heads lacking self restraint who think that everyone in the world behave like ATL African American Men!

@ Delphi – great comment…you expressed my sentiments exactly. I too always had a problem with Frank’s “inspirational vitamin” mixed in with Trey Songz and Ushers “trashy” songs, among others. I rarely listened to them unless the mayors, both Shirley Frankin and Kaseem, were on the air. They were boring and they had a lazy song choice (same songs-same time each morning). Can we get back to some real R & B mixed in with a little jazz? There are too many artists out there with extraordinary pipes, whose songs don’t get any play. BTW, I’ve been listening to Morris in the Morning on WCLK @ 91.9 FM. He plays a nice mix of assorted jazz genres, and his inspirational messages seem to be chosen with a lot of thought. I always feel positive after listening to his morning show.

Newsworthy because they’ve been on-radio personalities here in Atlanta for so long; even moreso because it was time for them to leave. Don’t know Frank or Wanda from a can of paint, but I know their work….it was tired, ghetto, loud, and abrasive. Just because you get top ratings apparently is not saying too much about you, or your competition. I pay for XM so I don’t have to listen to this type of garbage on my drive in to work.

I like Ryan but sometimes he is over the top with his long drawn out stories and over the top antics. He worked for the audience of hot 97.5 when started but the audience of V-103 morning listeners is a little different. He is great for afternoons when you are stuck in traffic..he keeps you amused and crumped.

Good riddance! I thought I had left his buffoonery when I left D.C., but then he followed me here to ATL. I tried to give him another chance, but haven’t listened to him since about 5-6 years ago when he followed a segment he was “hosting” on young girls’ self-esteem with more misogyny and objectification. The hypocrisy was literally jaw-dropping. That, for me, was the last straw. Turned away and haven’t turned back. Sponsoring a couple of trips to Space Camp does nothing to stem the damage done to our kids on a daily basis through the crap he peddles.

I started out listening to Frank and Wanda in the beginning when their show had some CLASS and it was enlightful and interesting. I stopped listening when they took it to the GUTTER and trust me it really went to the GUTTER. It just tells you that you can take A PIG OUT OF THE GUTTER BUT YOU CANNOT TAKE THE GUTTER OUT OF THE PIG. People will be who they are regardless of their elevation. GOODLUCK Frank and Wanda and remember if and when you start your next gig don’t take it to the GUTTER, people listen and tolerate you for a while and then they get disgusted.

Hopefully SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE will bring some Jazz & Old Skool music to Atlanta Airwaves. Everyone does “NOT” want to hear all of this Rap Garbage. That’s what it is now. Back in the day, RUN DMC, Heavy D, etc., it was nice music, now, I can’t take 5 minutes of this mess, it gives me migranes. I always thought Frank Ski was too old to be doing a Rap Station anyway & Wanda laughs all the time about ?????. That laughing for nothing gets on my nerves. I met her years ago at a club where we both were celebrating our birthdays & mentioned it to her & she didn’t open her mouth or even smile, so after that, I didn’t care for her anyway. I guess she never heard, be good to those on your way up, those are the same ones you will meet on your way down. I guess Frank was really making big money to have his Dunwoody home for sale for 2.2 million. I just want to know when people spend that kind of money, are they doing it for themselves or to impress people that don’t count in their lives. I don’t really care much for Ricky Smiley & Steve Harvey programs, but I must remember, they were Comedians first so the silly comes with the show. Ryan Cameron, I like him because he’s not as silly, but more funny. Frank & Wanda, SEE YA!!

Frank did name drop a lot and he did brag a lot and thought he knew everything. He also got on my nerves and talked to much. But he did do a lot for kids with his foundation and the Frank Ski bowl. If he doesn’t do that anymore kids are going to miss trying to get to the Frank Ski bowl. For as the music goes the same music they play in the morning they play mid day and in the afternoon. They have a play list. Wanda, sometimes she can be ghetto but I really feel everything she did for people and the community was from the heart. Like when she rasied 20k for the family that couldn’t bury their son/brother ( he went to MLK). They both have done a lot. I do think Frank is a little more out of touch with people that don’t run in his circle. But they both have done a lot for the community especially when they do the Christmas wish list. That means a lot to a lot of people.

i hope they both do well in their next endeavors although i had stopped listening to them as much in the past year or so. . i think frank had outgrew v103. he would be so much better with npr or some talk radio show. he likes to talk and express his opinions. i don’t know why wanda had to be “collateral” damage. did they not renew her contract or think she would make a great co-host with ryan? i know some people don’t like her but you have to admit, she had heart and tried to help families in need. maybe something more is waiting for her also.

I have listened to the Frank and Wanda Show for as long as they have been on air. Wanda did say what she would be doing. She has already been in movies and doing stand up for years. I will surely miss them. Ryan will have to grow on me, I remember when he was on in the morning of V-103 and they replaced him due to low ratings. I guess those of you who don’t get out much don’t see all the good that Frank and Wanda have done in this community. Those of you who say you are happy to see them go, Need to check yourselves. I for one will truly miss them and all they have done in this city in this state. I truly don’t listen to Ryan in the afternoon and he is not someone I take for the future of V-103. Even though I don’t listen to V-103, I lament the “musical chairs” management BS that dominates the Atlanta radio stations these days. I don’t ever remember one single instance of this kind of change in the mid-late 70s or 80s. It was like the radios stations formats and DJs were etched in stone. Now, you can’t go more than 2-3 days without hearing that someone has been bumped out of his job by a overlord who can’t handle the power and responsibility they’re given.
The cover story is that he left voluntarily, but I believe there’s more to it than that.
As for me, I finally found the River, (97.9 I believe), to replace the two radio stations whose formats have vanished this year. It’s almost too harsh, (I must be old, never thought that any music other than Iron Maiden get on my nerves), but it beats listening to the same CDs over and over again.
Good luck and fortune to the both of you, Frank and Wanda. You’ve got more class than the Elaine Zittac buzzards who make these personnel decisions these days, as if it wasn’t a day and night difference…

Frank and Wanda leaving. Well in life everything has a season theirs have come. Face it Atlanta their time is over. Rather you liked them or not it’s time for them to move on. Now I’m not saying that Ryan is the best choice or even Egypt (she sooooooooooooooo BORING- send her back to NYC). But I will say is they V-103 needs to revamp the entire station/staff! If Ryan doesn’t find a good co-host (NOT Crash D) keep him just doing traffic. Than they will lose more and more listeners than they already have. Now can anyone blame Frank for wanting to take V-103 in a new direction (Synd.) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO all the other stations here in Atlanta in the morning (urban stations) don’t have a morning host. We will see Frank and Wanda appaer all across the US soon. Watch they only have to be off the air for 6 months. Watch what I’m saying by summer WE will hear them both over synd radio…….just like (Tom Joyner, Steve Harvey, Rickey Smiley, Michael Baisden and etc). A lot of people don’t realize i , but Ryan was actually suppose to get the morning show when Mike Roberts and Crol left the station. He left V-103 the 1st time because they didn’t give him the morning show, that’s how he ended up on Hot 107.9 (hot 97.5 at the time) if you have been in the ATL for a min you know that. The departure of Frank and Wanda is just a reflection of the environment and tone in many corporations today. Basically, companies are saying, “we don’t care if you are #1 – we can still have you replaced. The bottom line is the bottom line. Don’t like their show at all. When he first came on the scene the show was tolerable. I don’t listen to that kind of music, there is too much talk and just not a good morning show. I flipped through the radio station the other day and heard Frank and Wanda and was shocked they were still around! It is really time for them to move on. Nothing against them personally – Frank is a stellar guy (love his community awareness and involvement) and Wanda is such a real person that she really tied things together. Good move – Atlanta deserves better. I thought Wanda was a little ghetto, but she was funny and entertaining. Frank was just a condescending, name dropping ego-maniac, who happened to get lucky. Be interesting to see what he is doing in 5 years. I think he reached his career peak years ago.

I stopped listening to the show when Frank Ski came, found his voice annoying, but still wish him luck. Don’t like Wanda on the show but have met her in person and she is a very nice, sweet person and I especially wish her the best. I started listening to Tom Joyner when Frank came to V103 in 98 and unfortunately Ryan Cameron is no Tom Joyner and i will stick with Tom.
Also don’t think this is such a big deal. Frank has been on the air a long time for a local station. When Tom Joyner retires THAT will be breaking news to me since he has been doing the radio morning show thing for so long and to such a large audience.

First of all, I wish them both the very best. Next, for all of you saying that people are haters just because they agree with V-103’s decision is rather shallow. For the person who said Frank Ski is an Atlanta icon is hallucinating. The morning show host (the position) at V-103 is an icon and will be applicable to Ryan Cameron equally. Let me remind some of you that Frank Ski was obligated by the radio station to make appearances and participate in charitable events. The station also profits when he DJs at certain venues. None of you know Frank Ski “the person” so give it a rest while you’re defending what he’s done for Atlanta and others. Let’s see if he continues doing all of those same things now that the proceeds will come out of his own pocket. Absolutely not. Frank is going to leave Atlanta just as quickly as he arrived. It’s a dog eat dog world. Get over it! Let’s just see if Wanda pops up anywhere else on the radio unless Frank gives her another job. If she does, whose going to follow her? No one. Peace.

Left the A eight yrs ago. Once Frank Ski took over after Mike and Carol. Tried to give him a chance. Didn’t care for the barrage of comments regarding how better it was up north vs Atlanta. NOT COOL! And he never tried to clean it up. Not to mention he is so self-absorbed. Not attractive. Ugly inside out. Always loved Ryan. The first thing I thought about when I moved was not being able to get my Ryan fix anymore. Congrats Ryan.

I started listening to V-103 in 1978 because I dearly love The Gap Band, The SOS Band, Lakeside, Cameo and many many more. I listened because of the MUSIC, which now it is all autotuned and vulgar and too repetitive. Having said that I respect V-103 as the massive signal and power house it is, it is always the 1st radio station from Atlanta that I can pick up on I-20 way into Alabama as I am driving back into town. Is it still the “people’s station?” Not hardly! Frank and Wanda may have had amusing moments, but they served themselves and Atlanta was burned out and tired of that mess. Syndication? to WHERE??? Sheesh, I hope not. When V-103 brought him into town they wrapped the Marta Buses and would reveal a little at a time as to WHO was coming to V-103 I remember thinking -uggh creepy-the whole marketing and personality. There are some really awesome dj’s in Atlanta, Si-man, Sasha the Diva, Cynthia Blackmon, Cynthia Young, Rashan Ali, Ramona Debreaux and YES Porsha Foxx, even though she has her troubles and I am sure there are others too. But bringing back immature monotone Elle, no thanks! Heard her do an interview and it was HORRID! Well, that’s my 2 cents maybe they will find something else, but I support the decision to lose Stank Fee and Gone-da!

I am so glad that Frank Ski and Wanda are leaving. They did more talking then they did playing music. I listen to Frank Ski when he was in Bmore and it was the same format down here. Now it seems like everyone from Bmore is here in the ATL. Jean Ross, Griff previously. I prefer 104.1 all day every day. As for Wanda I have no comment. V-103 was in need of a change when they had the man acting like a woman on their morning show. Really what was the point. Also, it goes to show you that with all this bouncing around of d-jays it doesn’t seem like no one is loyal. Yes, it’s all about the dollars and ratings. V-103 is for the younger group. I still will not listen to V-103 regardless. I will stick with 104.1 love the music and not a bunch of loud noise and don’t understand what the singer is singing about. The best to you Frank Ski and Wanda. Frank Ski V-103 has been really good to you if you can afford a 2.2 million dollar house in Dunwoody.

Yes, while I believe Frank & Wanda out grew the format, I feel Frank is good for the city. He has given much in terms of service. At the same time I also feel that Ryan is good for the city as well, along the same lines.
Only word of caution I’d offer to Ryan is: yesterday during his announcement he didn’t come across as being gracious to Frank & Wanda. He also hinted at bringing back the feel of the show to the way it used to be in terms the Ol’ dirty south -Campbellton rd, Old National Hwy, Simpson rd. Etc. Although I can appreciate that viewpoint, Atlanta will never be the same in terms of it’s growtb. Or maybe Ryan is correct. Maybe the show has become to high-brow and intellectual with Frank. Only time will tell.
At any rate, congratulations and best wishes to both parties.

I will finally comment, not that I have anything profound to say, just another opinion to offer. I came to ATL for college in ‘93, didn’t listen to radio in the morning because I didn’t commute. Couple years after I finished, Frank Ski was on. Have no idea who Mike and Carol are, and I’ve been here almost 20 years. How are folk gonna talk about people who haven’t been on the air in 15 years?
I dug Frank Ski in the morning because he was tight with Bill Campbell and then Shirley Franklin. H engaged the black halls of power and brought them to the street. For that, I will be forever grateful. Not sure when Wanda joined, but as her role became more prominent, I agree with the statement someone made about “appealing to the lowest common denominator”. Not trying to sound elitist, but her grammar wasn’t representing education. Heard those rumors here and there about Frank Ski, but hell, no man’s special, not even the clergy these days. No need to judge, wouldn’t have time for anything else.
I enjoy TJMS and Steve Harvey and Nephew Tommy, it’s just that for the first 20 minutes of my daily drive, I’m taking my five-year-old to school. A little too mature. The Bert Show seems to have the most interesting topics and regularly engage the public, much like Frank Ski. Just didn’t jibe with their opinions sometime. With the decreasing quality of music — all that gutter gutter stuff, I had just set my dial to 96.7 Wednesday morning to replace 103.3, as I was done. Imagine my surprise when I find out the next day that Frank Ski and Wanda are out at V103. Yayyyyy!!!! Ryan come on back to mornings! I wasn’t around for his first stint at V103, but lamented his, and ultimately Rashaan Ali and Griff’s departure from Hot 107.9. Ricky Smiley’s show sounded like a bag of dumb monkeys, but apparently they’ve gotten some shine from the public. Here’s to hoping Ryan Cameron makes it happen!

December 14 was Frank and Wanda’s last day at V-103… Ryan Cameron’s move to mornings will start in January. Another Atlanta media departure that I’m hearing about… CBS Atlanta meteorologist and traffic reporter Justin Lock. According to MediaBistro/TVSpy, Lock is moving back to Charleston, South Caorlina… and his bio is no longer on CBS Atlanta web-site. I’m assuming Jennifer Valdez will be doing weather and traffic yet again, unless CBS Atlanta management is considering hiring new traffic reporter.

I’m going to miss the DUO, I have been a loyal lisitner before Frank was hired, listening to Mike & Carol every morning.Frank has done a lot for the community with the different organizations that he is involved in, our community will miss them was this her decision to leave or was she forced out because Frank decided to leave. looking at her online that day said to me that it was not her decision. I must Frank his props, I am not a real fan or regular listener. However, I was listening several years ago, when Frank go OFF the air to go and help some poor single mother, who had recently relocated to Atlanta and was living in a rough part of town. She didn’t have reliable transportation and was just learning about the transit system and had a disable son. On top of that, she was at that moment when she called being terrorized and stalked, she and her son, by a huge Wharf Rat in her apartment. Yes, a rat. She had called the police, who laughed at her. An exterminator, I think wanted money up front. It was heartbreaking. And yes, Frank Left HIs Show, to go help this woman. MAny will criticize, saying he could have done something different, but at that moment at that time, that mother was in need and he helped. He helped her in many ways that day and the following days too.

i really was no frank ski and wanda fan anyways…. but what really did it for me was when one of the females from SWV ( Taj i think…) had fallen on hard times about 7 or 8 years ago… was supposed to be interviewed by frank ski but when she got to the station, he got up and left the room and refused to talk to the poor girl…!!! Ultimately His side kick Wanda had to interview the lady.
Ever since then i saw how much of a hypocrite Frank Ski can be and this is coming from a leader in the community who has them daily inspirational vitamins and to treat anybody like that is just wrong…
