‘The Voice’ final four recap: no big surprises

One of the final four will go home Tuesday night. It will probably be Lithonia’s Trevin Hunte. The poll on MJ’s site shows he only received 3% of the vote in terms of favorite performance while Cassadee Pope ran away with it with 55%.

1) Trevin Hunte (”Wind Beneath My Wings” Bette Midler / Team Cee Lo) – This guy likes a huge serving of ballads, with an extra dollop of cheese, when possible. It’s just okay, doesn’t quite soar. He seems a little under key. Grade: B/B-minus

2) Nicholas David (”You Are So Beautiful” Joe Cocker / Team Cee Lo) – He has a much more interesting voice than Trevin and he has comparable scruffy looks to Joe Cocker. He provides emotional depth, if not a resoundingly different take on this 1970s classic. Grade: B-plus/A-minus

3) Cassadee Pope (”Stupid Boy” Keith Urban/ Team Blake) – There’s no doubt why she’s the favorite to win. She has a pretty, powerhouse pop voice and gives this country song a strong resonance. Grade: A-minus/A

4) Terry McDermott (”Let It Be” Beatles/ Team Blake) – He possesses a good rock voice but in a total old school way. This song works well with Terry. Just lovely. Grade: A-minus/A

Back on Dec. 10th of last year, Javier Colon’s self-titled album reached about #20, I think, on the R&B charts. That equated to placing at #134 on the Billboard top 100. I seen some articles that said Dia Frampton has had a little more record sales success since the show, than Javier.

Jermaine Paul has been releasing singles and albums since 1996, but don’t recall seeing much yet on the Billboard top 100. Perhaps his recent new release will show-up down the road.

Recent (arbitrary) rankings of the current 4 finalists this season, show Cassadee in 1st place, Trevin close at 2nd, Terry 3rd and Nicholas David in 4th.

I haven’t been watching The Voice, so not fair for me to give an honest critique on anyone’s performance or growth. He sounded ok. What do you guys think?

His stage presence reminds of Eddie LeVert, Luther and even Teddy.

Well Pitchy, maybe it’s my tv speakers, but he sounded off-key, a little screechy and Pitchy to me, toward the end of the song – when he was trying to go for the super-high notes.

Seth T, that’s why I said he sounded “ok.” Nothing outstanding, nothing resonated with me, but I haven’t been watching. He wouldn’t have made it thru on AI.

For me, none of these 2 voices are worthy. Both sounds “lounge” like to me.

I like Blake, but not him singing this song.

It’s real cool, he brought back the others. They sound great together.

I agree Pitchy, Blake was ok, but probably should stick to Country songs. Would have been better to just let his group take little parts individually through the song and highlight them more.

They are copying Idol now, giving side-footage Home Visits for the top 4.

Best moment was McDermont seeing his relatives. Got me tearing up.

Let it Be suits his voice…BUT, Cassadee gets my voice. Let’s see if my pick stays the same throughout the evening

I prefer to hear Cassadee over the others. She doesn’t have a “great” voice, but just stays tight on her songs and always performs well. Have a good night and a great Tuesday.

Good morning.

Cassadee? See? She’s just like all of the past “re-run” wanna-be “stars.” She’s already had her 15 minutes as a member of a group called Hey Monday. Take a look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassadee_Pope

Pitchy: I very rarely watch this show, but last week, my usual went off for the season, so I’m stuck with little to watch. So last night I watched it, and I agree with you 100% on Blakes Christmas attempt. Not a fan, as I do not like Country music, but he has an ok voice within that genre, but he was NOT good on the song last night. Tone, pitch – just a whole mess. However, his group behind him sounded great!

The dude from ATL – I didn’t think he was good last night either, agree with Seth – he was all over the place. The last time I saw the show, he sang with another contestant, a rock song, and he sounded great. I don’t understand why this big guy is singing these girly, sobby songs (I understand he sang that screamy song from Dreamgirls last week). He just wasn’t very good last night.

If I was a voter, I’d be putting my votes with the Irish rocker. And picking a Sir Paul/Beatles song – sure can’t vote against that! His meeting with his Aunt & Uncle was truly lovely.

Rickster should be starting the countdown to Idol soon – He’s the official “timekeeper” for us.

The American Country Awards were last night. Congrats to:

Carrie Underwood – Female Artist of the Year
Lauren Alaina – New Artist of the Year
(And Miranda Lambert – who took home three awards)

All of the four remaining on The Voice are worthy of deals after the show. Outside of Trevin, these are some fairly seasoned artists.

I think Trevin had the weakest performance out of the four last night. I didn’t like that selection for him. His pitch was off and his inexperience as a vocalist made a rare appearance. With all the talent that Trevin has, I still don’t know what type of artisit he is. Celo hasn’t helped.

Last nights The Voice was a let down for me! I thought the song choices weren’t good at all. I thought Nicholas would have been better served with something like Summer Breeze. You Are So Beautiful has been done too many times. It wasn’t even a good version. Trevin? I think Trevin could be special but his genre is R&B and to do The Wind Beneath My Wings? *shaking head NO* Horrible song choice. The perfect song IMO would have been Kiss And Say Goodbye. Terry singing Let It Be was predictable and again it’s a song that has been run into the ground. Cassadee was the best of the night. All in all the show was underwhelming for me! I say that as a fan!

Hmmmmm. Apparently Emblem 3(the walking ego group on XF) isn’t concerned about getting votes. Here’s a quote from one of them denouncing “reality tv” editing for making him look stupid:

“It sucks because I care about how my image is being portrayed, not only physically, but who I am,” he said. “They just use the dumbest most simplest things from everything, but that is a reflection of the people watching the show. Dude, they are not very bright. I’m being real, man.”

And this guy thinks the viewers aren’t very bright?????????? LOL!

He may have just sealed his fate. I sure hope so. What an idiotic thing to say. Why are people flubbing off at the mouth on national TV then coming back with “I’m sorry, didn’t intend my words to be interpreted the way they have been.” WTH!!!! Cleanup on aisle 6…nevermind, leave it there and hope they slip in their own filthy spit!!!
