Atlanta-based TCM smartly created a five-minute montage of Hollywood figures both in front and behind the camera who passed away in 2012 (though there is still 21 days left in the year, most best-of lists are already out as it is.)

The network is smartly beating the Oscars to the punch by several weeks. It also uses arty video of the local Starlight Drive In on Moreland.

Among those featured: Andy Griffith , Celeste Holm, Ann Rutherford, Ben Gazzara, Larry Hagman, Michael Clarke Duncan and longtime friend of TCM Ernest Borgnine, producer Richard D. Zanuck, director/producer Tony Scott, writer/director Nora Ephron, writers Gore Vidal and Ray Bradbury, cinematographer Bruce Surtees, conceptual designer Ralph McQuarrie and special effects artist Carlo Rambaldi. In addition, TCM pays tribute to several music makers who found success in the film world, including Whitney Houston, Andy Williams, Davy Jones and Levon Helm, as well as songwriters Hal David, Marvin Hamlisch and Robert Sherman.

I was always an Andy Griffith fan until he did the commercials for Obama care. Soured me to the point that I have not watched his shows since. Having said that, the older I get, the more I see leave. They will all be missed. I lost family this tear too. More every year.

Anyone who speaks ill of the dead is a slug. I hope no one in your family ever gets sick. Those who still love the show won’t miss you.

Real Fan is right. Those speaking ill of the dead are slugs. So Andy supported Obamacare. Big deal. It just means that Aunt Bea can have her hip replacement, Opie can have preventative care, and Barney can have that single bullet removed from his foot without being rejected by greedy healthcare CEOs. Geeze, I think it even covers mental conditions for “Former Andy Griffith Fan” and “BravesDawg”. Woof.
