Fox 5’s Amanda Davis has DUI court hearing

amanda-davis-fox-5Fox 5’s Amanda Davis had her first court hearing Monday in Atlanta traffic court following her November 11 arrest on charges of driving under the influence and reckless driving.

Her attorney William Head told the judge they needed more time to investigate the facts of the incident and a new hearing date was set for January 9, 2013, according to Fox 5.

Davis, who has worked with WAGA-TV since 1986, has not been on the air since the arrest. Mike McClain, a Fox 5 vice president, provided a brief statement: “Amanda Davis is currently away from the television station handling personal matters.”

Again, I give credit to Fox 5 for even covering a sensitive story about their own beloved veteran reporter who placed herself in such a tough situation.

The question we do not know: will Davis ever be back on the air?

I left a message with Davis, who has not yet publicly commented about the situation or even release a statement.

“Client not speaking to press,” her attorney Head texted. “It will be resolved in court.”

AJC.com has more details here about her arrest. She was driving northbound on a southbound lane of Piedmont Ave. and crashed into another vehicle.  She has also been arrested for DUI charges in the past, though the last one was 21 years ago.

The original arrest story here.

I do wish Ms. Davis well, though. She made a dangerous decision, but I for one cannot find holes in my hands or feet. Let the courts, Fox5, and mainly Amanda with her Maker work this out.

Most people that get a DUI lose their job and find it next to impossible to get new job especially in this economy.

Some of you know Amanda personally, but most who comment here do not. What is it that you need to do to fix your own lives? Not one of us are perfect. And yes, we do make MISTAKES. Meaning, judgements that are misguided. I am sure Amanda knew what she was doing, was not the right thing to do. And now is paying a price, by having the public’s scrutiny and judgements. I do not believe that someone should be thrown out with the trash,(regardless of race or gender, thank you) in particularly when you have a problem that mostly hurts yourself. It goes with out saying, when your problem starts to affect and hurt others, the powers that be have no other choice but to act. That means employers and the court system. I will be the first to say, I have done the same stupid thing, and can only contribute me getting home safely and not causes harm to anyone else,as a blessing from God. Which is why I, and some of you can not judge this lady. I wish her well, I pray if help is what is needed, she gets it. In closing, I would suspect about 85% of the people commenting here, have driven while impaired. It doesn’t make it right and it certainly does not make you judge of another person’s wrong.

A friend of ours was arrested for dui and spent 22 months in jail. First offense. If it’s her third, I would expect no less of a term for her.

Just like Danny Heatley doing 150 MPH down a side street in Atlanta and KILLED A MAN.. he got a nice pass, returned to the team and eventually left ON HIS OWN accord because of “the memories” of his friend that bothered him.. I remember Atlanta and the Hockey fans seemed to embrace him juuust fine. “Poor Danny boy give’ em a break” is what they screamed from the hills of Alpharetta to the skyscrapers of Buckhead..

So guess what? Amanda deserves the same and in fact even more consideration in light of her tenure here in Atlanta.

After her time of healing & community service, bring her back and let’s all move on just like you all did for Heatley the Hockey boy!

I think Amanda Davis should be fired. It’s about integrity. She is not above the law and should not be given special treatment.

Everybody makes mistakes her last dui was over 21yrs ago. We don’t know what she was going threw.she needs help and a chance to get her life back on track. Jail is not the answer for everything white people. If it was Cherly WHite she would have been back to work.
