‘X Factor’ top 10 performance recap: thankful?

I was out last night to see Phillip Phillips at Mall of Georgia, then catch “Lincoln.” So I apologize for being late. I’ll post photos and video from the Mall of Georgia tomorrow.

Here’s my quick take on the top 10 from “The X Factor” Wednesday night, where they dedicated songs to people they are thankful for. This means treacly songs galore. And since this is 10 performances stretched out over two hours, the dedication videos go on for a long time.

Two will be eliminated again Thursday night. I think it will be Arin and CeCe. Arin has been scraping bottom and has done nothing to prove otherwise. CeCe–I’m just done with her. I’d rather see her gone than even Paige, who will likely be in the bottom three as well.

I truly liked three performances: Diamond White, Carly Rose and Vino Alan. Others were either adequately unmemorable or just bad.

Tate Stevens (”I’m Already There” Lonestar/ L.A.’s team) – Dedicated to his late father. I find this song cloying and dull. But it was a big cross-over hit. I’d almost rather see him do a party song instead of theses ballads,. But he’s banking on them and they work well for him. He emotes well and clearly, his fans love him. He’s been the top vote getter two weeks in a row. “I feel as if this wasn’t your best performance,” Demi said. “Your voice was breaking in parts,” Simon said. “It wasn’t as confident as previous weeks.” Grade: B

Diamond White (”Because You Loved Me” Celine Dion/Britney’s team) – Dedicated to her mom. I’ve always liked her. She shows vulnerability and a voice that is only improving. I really believe her when she did this song. Very impressive. She earned the standing ovations she got. Grade: A

Emblem3 (”Secrets” OneRepublic/ Simon’s Team) – I found this a bit boring. This type of song sucked the life and swagger out of the trio, trying to make them soft and appealing rather than edgy. Not my favorite by any stretch. Grade: B-minus

Arin Ray (”Hero” Enrique Iglesias/ Britney’s team) – It was pretty but also pretty dull, as Demi points out. “It was too big,” L.A. said. “A song that required a gut-wrenching performance. It was a good performance.” Grade: B/B-minus

CeCe Frey (”Wind Beneath My Wings” Bette Midler/ Demi’s team) – She dedicated this to her late sister. Shaky as all get out. Flat notes. There’s never been much special about her voice in my mind. And now they have her dressed like Marilyn Monroe circa 1957. I don’t get her at all. “Your emotion was so genuine and real,” L.A. said. Simon calls her a “trier.” Boy. That’s high praise, eh? Grade: B-minus

Fifth Harmony (”I’ll Stand By You” Pretenders/ Simon’s team) – A perfectly passable rendition of a great song by Franken-group. I have practically forgotten it before I’ve even finished sentence. Grade: B/B-minus

Beatrice Miller (”Chasing Cars” Snow Patrol/ Britney’s team) – I haven’t liked her all that much. This was better than average for her, which still isn’t exactly amazing to me. “It’s not progressing. It feels like the same song every week,” Demi said. “I want you to do something different and fun.” Grade: B/B-plus

Vino Alan (”God Bless the USA” Lee Greenwood/ L.A.’s team) – Dedicated to the troops. This is the type of song that might get you called a traitor if you say you didn’t like it. Fortunately, I have found it endearing and to be honest, I like Vino’s version better than the original. I may just like his voice better. He has zero chance to have the fewest votes after that performance. (See Kristy Lee Cook). Grade: A-minus/A

Paige Thomas (”Everytime” Britney Spears/ Demi’s team) – I find her vocals decidedly uninteresting, a sound that 1,000 women out there can emulate. There’s nothing singularly unique about her. Even when she goes off key and overly emotional, it doesn’t touch me at all. Her performances – outside the occasional outrageous outfit – are like vapor. Poof! They’re gone in a heartbeat. Grade: C-plus

Carly Rose (”Over the Rainbow” Judy Garland/ Britney’s team) – She has the best, most distinctive voice in the competition. I really hope she wins. While this may not have been quite as pure as Katharine McPhee’s version season 5 of “American Idol,” it certainly was powerful and bracing. “You’re a force of nature,” L.A. said. Grade: A

Happy Thanksgiving. I think the show is getting better each week because they are backing down on the theatrics and concentrating on the singing. One on the best shows so far.

Happy Thanksgiving! I think Demi loses both her acts! Paige & CeCe will go! If not them Beatrice or Arin!

My favorite from the UK version of X-Factor Ella Henderson was sent home leaving no girls left in the competition but by all accounts she has 3 record deals on the table including Simon’s label. Here’s her last appearance.

I agree with DanJ. Any of those four could go home and I wouldn’t shed a tear.

5TH Harmonry could go but I think young girls voting will keep them around since most of the group are in their teens!

Once it goes to where the audience does the voting i think the Judges should leave there opinion out of it until the next resluts are given. It keeps it clean so to speak that way. It is out of there hands. They should tell everyone that has made it that far good job and then discuss stuff later.

“resluts”, “RESLUTS”, seriously, was that an intentional or unintentional freudian slip? I liked it either way. Is that the thing about “once a slut always a slut”?

Great recap! I think The X Factor’s got to get back on point and make it exciting again because I don’t like the way the show’s going. I love to watch this show, which’s one of my favorite primetime shows but it just doesn’t have that spark anymore. I’ve enjoyed watching Tate Stevens the most and I hope he gets the win this season. There’re lots of primetime shows I wouldn’t have ever watched if my DISH Hopper DVR didn’t record them. My coworker at DISH suggested the upgrade after I told him the headache of timers and conflicts I always experience. I can record the four major networks on one TV, and play them back anytime within the next eight days. I used to miss all my primetime shows because I work at night, and I never had enough DVRs to do the job. Now I can get all of them on one tuner and keep my other TVs free for the family to watch.
