Amanda Davis of Fox 5 arrested on DUI charges

Amanda Davis, a veteran evening anchor at Fox 5 Atlanta, has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence in a wrong-way crash, according to the Atlanta police. She was reportedly driving northbound in the southbound lane on Piedmont Ave. at 12:30 a.m. early Sunday morning. She was taken to jail and released later that day.

You have to give WAGA-TV credit for reporting the news on air and on its website, though the headline does not reference the DUI.
Davis has worked at Fox 5 since 1986 and anchors the 6 and 10 p.m. news. She was an original anchor in 1992 for “Good Day Atlanta.”

PEOPLE THAT ARE OF THE WORLD WILL RESPOND THAT WAY AND WILL BE HARSH CRITICAL AND UNFORGIVING BUT MY THOUGHTS ARE THAT ,YES, THERE HAS TO BE ACCOUNTABILITY, BUT JUDGE NOT LEST THY JUDGED FOR THE SAME MEASURE THAT U USE FOR OTHERS WILL LATER BE USED FOR U. PERHAPS THE MALADY OR THE INFRACTION WILL VARY BUT THE NEED FOR EMPATHY AND COMPASSION WILL BE THERE JUST THE SAME. THIS IS NOT HER FIRST BRUSH WITH THE LAW AND ALCOHOL WHICH MIGHT LEAD US TO CONSIDER THAT THERE MAY BE A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH ALCOHOL AND IF THAT IS THE CASE THEN SHE IS SUFFERING FROM A DISEASE AND NEEDS PROFESSIONAL HELP…NOT CRITICISM. THE BEST THING THAT WE CAN DO IS PRAY FOR THE INJURED PARTY AND THAT PERSON’S FAMILY AND FOR MS DAVIS AND HER FAMILY AS WELL. THIS IS NOT EASY FOR ANY OF THEM…..BY THE WAY….I WAS INJURED BY A DRUNK DRIVER AND I FORGAVE THAT PERSON AND CONTINUED ON WITH MY LIFE..FOR U WHO CANNOT LOOK AT THIS AND FORGIVE……..LET THERE BE JUSTICE WITH MERCY AND LET THERE ALWAYS BE COMPASSION AND LOVE.

I too am shocked that Amanda was caught driving under the influence. There is talk about this incident being the 2nd or 3rd incident of its’ kind. I’m not entirely sure whether 1st, 2nd or 3rd matters..DUI is never a positive event. While her behavior is reprehensible and criminal it does not make her the scum of the earth. She should certainly be brought to justice for her actions and the party that she harmed should be made whole through the civil process. She should not be made an example of by the court system, the media or FOX5 for her actions, rather she should be dealth with fairly by all. She should also not be completely castigated by the public and various nay sayers. After all she is human and as such is flawed like all of us. Admittedly, the definition of fair is debatable. I am a bit troubled by all of the vicious comments that are hurled her way; And, the leap to conclusion that she is a confirmed alcoholic. I don’t know whether she is or not. What is certain is that a DUI (1 or 2) is not an absolute indicator of one being an alcoholic. However, it does show an extreme lack of judgement and personal responsibility. In terms of her continued employment with FOX…FOX will do whatever is in the best of interest of ratings and revenue for that station. No employer has loyalty to anyone regardless of how valuable or great one might be. At the end of the day it’s just business. I wish a speedy and complete recovery to the party harmed. And, best wishes are extended to Amanda. You made a bad judgment call, but you can definitely recover with grace and dignity. Whether you are on the air or not you can still play a pivotal role in whatever is ahead for you. I caution those who are so eager to judge to slow down.

Ms. Amanda can always do what one of my fellow employees did when they were caught stealing from us.. Claim illness and they got their job back. I will feel sorry for ch. 5 if they take her back and she later kills someone.

i always thought amanda davis did a good job, however i know she needs to be punished because of this incident, i just hope she does not loose her job because of this
