Amanda Davis of Fox 5 arrested on DUI charges

Amanda Davis, a veteran evening anchor at Fox 5 Atlanta, has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence in a wrong-way crash, according to the Atlanta police. She was reportedly driving northbound in the southbound lane on Piedmont Ave. at 12:30 a.m. early Sunday morning. She was taken to jail and released later that day.

You have to give WAGA-TV credit for reporting the news on air and on its website, though the headline does not reference the DUI.
Davis has worked at Fox 5 since 1986 and anchors the 6 and 10 p.m. news. She was an original anchor in 1992 for “Good Day Atlanta.”

Amanda has a good heart and has been an advocate for those who are less fortunate. Let us show her the same compassion that she has show to others. I am certain that no one feels worst than Amanda about this incident. She knows that DUI can kill. That certainly is not her heart.

First of all, the did not make a mistake. She made a choice.
That said, I love the way people say – she should be treated the same as everyone else.
How is that exactly?
Very few people, who are stupid enough to drive drunk and are arrested for DUI, lose their job,
have their face on every news outlet in their city, have complete strangers comment on their stupidity.
She made a stupid choice (not mistake!), but she is not being treated the way YOU would be treated. And you should be glad.
And if she does indeed have a history of DUI – that’s another story….she has bigger problems than an arrest.

Fox 5 should suspend you so that you can get some help. You have been drinking and driving for a long time and you know it. Stop the irresponsible behavior before you kill someone. You are too old for this nonsense. You have shamed Wednesday Child. Better still, retire, go home, stay at home and drink all you want. Dont bring it to the streets.

I sense her to be a very good person and also a person who needs help. I say get her the help she needs and put her back on the air. In general I cant stand FOX but will watch it because of the crew, including her. Help…Not Fire! Maybe a few months in rehab will do and I look forwrd to seeing her after that.

Two comments:
As another poster said, Ms. Davis did NOT make a mistake. She made a choice, a very bad choice. Putting one cup of sugar in the recipe rather than half a cup is a mistake, and that doesn’t get any one killed. She chose to drive after drinking, which can (and has in other instances) kill people.
I would estimate that at least 80 percent of the comments here make no mention whatsoever of the victim. I will bow my head with the other 20 percent in prayer for a full and complete recovery, both physically and emotionally, for Ms. Davis’s victim. Then, and only then, I will pray for the same for Ms. Davis.

Confused. Why do EXCEPTIONAL people who have so much going for them make a choice that reverses all of their accomplishments? However, why does one bad choice teriminate all of the good? Long story short…bad night..one bad choice….no one knows the story. I will admit driving in Atlanta in that area…easy to go the wrong way sober. Brenda, I pray that all goes well for you.

Civil or not don’t create the site if you don’t expect people to express their honest opinions. Now as I recall correctly, Amanda’s been arrested for a previous DUI and ended up back on TV. However this time, not only did she drank and drive, she was going the wrong way and some one could’ve been seriously hurt or worse killed. In my line of work law enforcement, I definitely would have been jailed, fined and then fired. I too drink but I don’t get behind a moving vehicle and try to drive especially if I’m impaired. Don’t know if her superiors will fire her but they do need to recommend to her to attend DUI classes, get some professional help, stop driving after drinking and take a brief leave of absence. Good luck to whatever happens.

No one has rights to point fingers because we all have done things we are not proud of. Please seek help for this disease before you hurt yourself or someone. Ms. Davis finds herself in a very serious situation having commited a similar offense two decades ago. My prayers are with her. Fox 5 may have the unfortunate duty of having to let her go considering she’s been down this road before. A sad way to end a wonderful career.

My son got caught DUI — He not only spent time in jail but lost his lisence. He had to pay lots of money for classes and even more money to get his license Back. This is Amanda’s 2nd DUI. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE –

I hope all goes well for Amanda. With that said, and as another commenter noted, she reports on drunk drivers and the disasters their drinking and driving leave in their wake all the time. The look on her face of disappointment as she pretends to care for what she is reporting on. Then she goes out and drives drunk herself endangering others while doing so. This is the hypocrisy we live in today’s world.
She should be dealt with as anyone else would be in the eyes of the law and if means being terminated from employment, so be it.
Grow up Amanda, get help.

Most people if they are honest have driven intoxicated or on some kind of medicine that made them impaired. As hard as she has worked to get where she is and do what she has accomplished should not be taken from her . I have watched her for 26 years on Fox5 and it wouldn’t be the same without her! I had a lot of stuff to say about Ms. Davis that was bad, but after reading some of the post above, I began to think. First of alL they did not have to publish this because they all knew who she was. Why embarrass a lady like that? Isn’t Law Inforcement a force to help? Keep stuff ou of the papper such as foreclosure divorce, child support is reporting such things helping the cause? The news is so bad I hate to look at it. Thank God for sparing Amanda life and all those that was involve. Amanda did not make a “mistake”. She has done this more than once. Fox 5 need not worry about keeping her on the air. Wrong way driving while DUI! JAIL for 2 years is what she needs. Then she can try to put her life back together after that. AFTER some JAIL IF she can find any job at all, then she can be back on the air….should that type of job be laudable. GET REAL PEOPLE. There is a time to serve TIME. Her actions now require JAIL.

This isn’t her first DUI arrest. This is her 2nd under Davis but she had 2 others under the name of Amanda Bevell. She unfortunately should be fired like they did Porsche Fox on V-103. It should not matter your celebrity status. Think about the people she injured or possibly would have killed. I don’t think the Fox 5 can protect her now.
PS. I love Amanda and thought she has done a great job on TV! 26 years, its time to find a less stressful job that doesn’t require a drink after work.
