Amanda Davis, a veteran evening anchor at Fox 5 Atlanta, has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence in a wrong-way crash, according to the Atlanta police. She was reportedly driving northbound in the southbound lane on Piedmont Ave. at 12:30 a.m. early Sunday morning. She was taken to jail and released later that day.

Details are in this story on ajc.com with her mug shot.

You have to give WAGA-TV credit for reporting the news on air and on its website, though the headline does not reference the DUI.

Davis has worked at Fox 5 since 1986 and anchors the 6 and 10 p.m. news. She was an original anchor in 1992 for “Good Day Atlanta.”

She shouldn’t be fired!! What are you people thinking? She made a mistake. She is a top new anchor. The woman has won an Emmy previously. This has nothing to do with her career. Why do you idiots feel the need to judge her? RinTinTim you are the kind of person who makes this world more messed up.

God bless her and I hope she seeks help; reaity is she culd have killed someone…then what? Should she be forgiven…yes. I just hope that she realizes the mercy God has had on her and not to take him or it for granted any further. As for the news station….they are heartless for others but love making life miserable for others who have made the same mistakes. Shame on fox 5 for not being fear to all.

I’m very surprized to here that she was DUI. Unfortunely she may have a problem, but i don”t hold that against her, we all make mistakes and live and learn from them. I pray that she recovers from this. She is one of my favorites on FOX 5!!!!! Hope to see her soon!

Even though Amanda is a good reporter, I think she should be fired because it make the station look bad. This is her second dui charge and she will never learn so she should be treated no different than anyone else. The station is always reporting drunk drivers crashes then one of their own commit the same crime not once but twice. FIRE HER

I think Amanda should be fired because it make the station look bad. Even though she is a good reporter; how can you report crimes when one of your own keep committing one.

I love Amanda and I’m praying for her. She made an awful mistake and she will pay dearly for her lapse in judgement. I will not join in the chorus of those who seek to add additional pain to Ms. Davis. Matthew 7:3-5

I must admit that I am stunned. And all the while I was under the impression that the Republican owned station also owned the moral high ground. The very idea that they could even have someone on the payroll who even sniffed alcohol is an abomination to me.

I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I HEARD THIS ON THE 46 NEW CHANNEL, WE ALL HAVE DONE WRONG THINGS IN LIFE. DRIVING DRUNK AND THE WRONG WAY I DON’T HAVE WORDS TO SAY… LATELY IN THE PAST WE HAVE HAD SO MANY WRONG WAY DRIVERS AND DEATH PLAYED A BIG PART. SO WHAT IM SAYING IS GOD WAS WITH YOU AND THE OTHER DRIVER. I KNOW THAT YOU ARE HURT INSIDE AND I WOULD TO, BUT LET THIS BE A LESSON LEARN TO HOLD YOUR HEAD UP AND IF YOU JOB JUST GO ON AIR AND MAKE A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT OF HOW SORRY YOU ARE. IT’S YOUR STORY NOW TO TELL THE WORLD OF WHAT HAPPEN AND HOW SORRY. MAYBE THIS WILL OPEN OTHER HEARTS TO NOT TO GET BEHIND THE WHEEL WHILE DRINKING. GOOD LUCK AMANDA…

I watch Fox 5 and I like Amanda. But with that said, right is right, and wrong is wrong. To threaten to close down the blog is childish. Why even start it if you don’t want people’s true comments? Hopefully she’ll get the help she needs.

I love how all of you are spouting about her “mistake!” Hello!!!!! Drinking and driving is NOT a mistake! It is a conscious choice to get behind the wheel of a car when you are too incapacitated to be responsible. Obviously she has done this in the past…. Most people learn their lesson. Apparently she did not.

I remeber over the past few months Amanda as well other news people reporting on all the wrong way drunk drivers on GA400 and the innocent lives lost.If Amanda knew she was intoxicated why wouldn’t she and her friend take a cab . I hope Fox5 make the right decision regarding this situation and remember the message they are going send. All of our actions have consequences even for local celebrities.I don’t think we would be so sympatetic had someone died . p.s. this has been an issue before

Amanda, my first thought is that there must be some ugly underlying factors that drove you to this point of craziness. Please take care because your presence on that Fox 5 news was comely and valuable to the community. Hope you get well and return soon.

Twenty six years at one company is something to speak of, I hope they support her and not throw her away like some old, dirty worn out foot cloth. I remember her oversea broadcasting of the Olympics. No one is perfect, so I hope she gets the support she needs to get the help she needs to get back on track.

It is with a very somber heart that I wish Amanda Davis the very best. I was a huge fan of her and Fox5 news. But DUI charges come with a stigma now days, worse than in 1991 when she was arrested for the same exact thing. I know she will not be back on the air here in Atlanta. Maybe she can and will get help, and move to another metro city where she is not known. She is a great anchor woman. Her kindness and motherly attributes come thru the camera, right into your home. Please, Fox5, promote Gurvir Densah to her anchor spot, should she be permanently removed.

Ms.Davis i,m so sorry to hear about your public and very personal humiliation. I,m a firm believer that God has a plan for each and every one of us. Whatever your going through please remmber that there is nothing to big or to small for God to handle. So look to him for guidance and true answers to all of your life issues. I,m to hear that no one was hurt. May God bless and keep you and your family.

I am 59 and can prove I never been drunk in my life due to family background of a father who was a vicious drunk. My thoughts are that no matter who or what the circumstances doesn’t excuse the fact she was intoxicated while driving. The comments here are about how great of a person she was and should be totally forgiven is reprehensible. She was going down the wrong side of the road. She hit a vehicle. Suppose there were children in the car or any innocent people and even though there wasn’t any identified, the possibility existed. I pray she gets help, but because of her position as a news anchor to me doesn’t mean she should get off because of her job and celebrity status. She is no better than anyone else and shouldn’t get preferential treatment because of this. Let the court do the job with equal justice without any bias.

Drinking and driving is so wrong, Thank God she didn’t kill anyone.

This is not Amanda Davis first time drinking & driving. (she need to be treated just like anyone else)
She also need Help. I pray that she get the help , before she kills herself or someone else.

I don’t drink, I just don’t understand why anyone would get behind a wheel, most of the tiime the drunk drive don’t get killed it’s the other person.

God bless the person she hit and Amanda Davis.

Alcoholism is not a “foolish mistake” or a “poor choice”. It is a sickness and a disease and needs professional treatment. Perhaps Fox 5 should do a Special on the problem letting Amanda go through an AA type program to completion with the desired results a CURED, productive, example to her fellow man. There are probably thousands of “Closet” drinkers in Fox 5’s viewing area who could benefit from an honest, open, real life, undiluted story of getting your life back. Get with it Amanda. Next time a life could be lost, and it could be yours!

I’ve heard about other previous “things” in her life but not DUI. If it is true about previous DUI’s, at least FOX treated her better than UGA did Damon. But, we all know DUI wasn’t the reason UGA fired Damon.

Just wanted to say that I am in Amanda’s corner. I am not advocating what she did is right but this does not make her a bad person. I believe she has always been very professional at her job at Fox 5 news and has done her job well. I do not know all of the facts, as most probably do not but I will pray for her and have hope that she will turn things around. I do hope that she will be given another shot at keeping her job. Everyone deserves one more chance, if in fact this is her first arrest.

I am soooo sad hearing about this, I’m just happy no one was hurt in the accident. God bless her in her storm right now. I hope she won’t be leaving Fox 5, she is very good and I like seeing her different hair styles..Really she does wonders with the Wednesday’s child too..I wished someone would have called her a ride if she was really tipsy. THIS IS TRUELY A WAKE UP CALL FOR HER NOW!!!

Yes Amanda is human but this act is unacceptable. She needs to set a good example for our young ones. I want good for Amanda but I hate fox 5 NEWS. They are so racist and bias. Too much PREJUDISM. I hope Amanda will learn from this and thus get her acts together. She should quit working for FOX 5.

Lets understand one thing her. If the accident happened around 12:15 and she was ON-AIR an hour and fifteeen minutes before that. Allow fifteen minutes to clear makeup and another fifteen to walk to her car and drive a little bit. That givers her 45 minutes to stop off. She couldn’t have been that hammered. She was big enough to admit it to the officer. Oh and the other charges happened over twenty years ago. We shouldn’t be so quick to judge.

“Praise God, for her survival and that no one was killed. “We look at people in the media as problem-less, perfect and without weaknss’es. What a set up for heartbreak, However, she don’t need our criticism, but what she does need are our prayers of support and positive influence. We are all subject to the same outcome when situations in life causes someone to become vulnerable and make an unintelligent decision. And no she doesn’t need to loose her job, she wasn’t at work, this was on her personal time. “Amanda, I love you and in this dark time, remember that God will see you through, in Jesus Name!

Let’s not forget – alcoholism is a disease. It is a true addiction. She needs our prayers and well wishes for her recovery, not our judgmental thoughts. She should receive professional help but not be fired. None of us is without fault.
