Amanda Davis, a veteran evening anchor at Fox 5 Atlanta, has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence in a wrong-way crash, according to the Atlanta police. She was reportedly driving northbound in the southbound lane on Piedmont Ave. at 12:30 a.m. early Sunday morning. She was taken to jail and released later that day.
Details are in this story on ajc.com with her mug shot.
You have to give WAGA-TV credit for reporting the news on air and on its website, though the headline does not reference the DUI.
Davis has worked at Fox 5 since 1986 and anchors the 6 and 10 p.m. news. She was an original anchor in 1992 for “Good Day Atlanta.”

What you mean please be civil in your comments or you will shut it down. Dont ask for comments if we cant voice our opinion. I understand censoring cursing and things of that sort but I will say what I please. She need to get it together because she knows her place in the Atlanta Community. If it was me a teacher that did the same thing it would not make your page nor would you put please be civil or you will shut it down. Bunch of crap.

She is a drunk that has probably reported on numberous drunk drivers in the past. Shameful act. Just shameful. Drunk drivers kill. SHe should be fired and banned from covering anything on drunk driving. I know its not the first time.

Do not drink and drive. This is such a simple statement but has been so hard to follow by so many people. We have got to start taking responsibility for our actions. I love Amanda Davis on Fox 5 but she must be held accountable for her actions.

I predict that Amanda will get either Joseph “All White people are going to hell” Lowry or John “The dogs and fire hoses are still comin’ after me in 2012″ Lewis to defend her in a “show of support” in an effort to “seek social justice”.
These “leaders” will return the favor Amanda regularly extends to them in her (extremely) soft ball interviews.

Funny one their own Kelly Stevens was hit head on by someone and nearly killed and Rodney Ho didnt ask anyone to “be easy” there. This is pathetic and she’s a drunk it amazes me how when it becomes someone on TV you want them not to be touch well Rodney if she would have hit you head on, what would you say then ? AMANDA YOUR A DRUNK ALWAYS HAVE ALWAYS WILL BE !!!

I have never cared for Amanda Davis. People are killed all the time for drinking and driving and going the wrong way….why has she not been suspended? Other people would have been suspended pending the results of an internal “investigation”. Fox 5 has not even said they were doing any kind of investigation so I guess she is going to get away with it.

A DUI has nothing to do with her job as an anchor. I don’t see a reason why she should be fired. No one has a right to judge her for her mistakes. Maybe at best a suspension. Best of luck to Ms Davis and WAGA for doing the right thing.

She may beat the charge. On a slightly related note, the city of Atlanta has very poor street signage and none of the street names are lit at night. True, Amanda probably knows the area quite well.
This doesn’t negatively affect my opinion of her in the least. I am, however, surprised that she was driving a Fiat.
No one approves of driving under the influence, but many people function just fine with a .08 blood alcohol content. Secondly, no one intends to drive drunk (meaning much higher than .08); drinking impairs judgment, and you believe you are OK to drive.
Hang in there, Amanda.

I was under the impression that this site is property of the AJC RH only asked that people stay civil if you cannot you have no right to be on this site and the owner has every right to bounce your comments or even shut down this site. If you want to start your own paper or website please go ahead , I for one will not visit that site but again that is my right. As far as BW the tv station has to make a decision about what is best for the station and I am sure they will. Might they be wrong sure it is their business. We can choose to watch or not. As a reporter they are not supposed to be the news. I do feel sorry for her but I would not want to be around if she were drinking and driving

I have NO compassion for individuals who drink and drive. Why not drink in the privacy of your home? Why not call a DAMN cab? This women reports on the news the dangers of drinking and driving (DEATH). We’ve seen it to many times. And if people showed enough outrage on this site and others just maybe she would get her act together. She is to damn old to be drinking and driving. And it pisses me off that she would endanger the lives of others; its BS!

First my Prayers go out to the Person and their Family, that got hit. Hope they recover 100%. Also my prayers go out to Amanda, I have much respect for her, but she needs to held accountable for her poor judgement. Could of KILLED someone. Anytime someone drink to the point of getting drunk, then getting behind the wheel of a vehicle, is like a ticking time bomb, putting everyone on the road at danger, including themselves. Thats a SICKNESS, so let us Pray. Prayer changes things. Thought for the Day: “Anytime You Consume Alcohol in the body, your reaction time an sound thinking is impaired, even though you appear ok”

I guess we are suppose to feel sorry for her because she is in the media?? No need to tiptoe around it, she sounds like an alcoholic and needs to enroll in AA, what if she killed herself and others while drunk driving??

Yes Amanda is human and we all make mistakes. But mistakes are meant to be learned from. It is true this is not the first time she had been arrested for DUI and it is common knowledge in the journalism community she has had a long staning drinking problem that is years in the making and needs to be address. She is just being enabled to continue to ignore her problem because she is well loved and an excellent reporter. She needs to be held accountable so she can address the issue and get on with the rest of her life. She could end up killing herself or much worst someone else.

I have NO sympathy for anyone arrested for DUI, as my lower back was destroyed by a drunk driver. The law must change…1st offense 30 days in jail, 2nd offense 1 year!

It’s unfortunate that this happened to her, but to threaten to shut down the page because of potentially crazy comments is..well…CRAZY!!! For her to pull a bonehead move like that is completely STUPID! She reports on idiots like this who end up killing people and yet she decided to put on her big girl diapers and make the choice…as a grown @$$ woman to do this. I don’t care how long she’s been on TV here in Atlanta. No sympathy was shown for another newsperson who had drug issues a year ago, a fellow colleague on the radio was almost killed from someone else who made the CHOICE to drink and drive. It was a mistake but she deserves to get grilled like any other “celebrity”.

No, there is no way to rationalize drunk driving. But, we ll make mistakes. Sometimes, we make bad mistakes. I hope the station lets her keep her job although she probably needs to get some treatment. Everyone makes bad decisions and (most) everyone deserves a second chance..

Amanda, I prayed that you get yourself together and i’m glad no one was seriously hurt or killed but this has got to stop; if you have a drinking problem get help no one is going to judge you, but if you choose to drink take a cab or stay at a friend’s house.
