Amanda Davis, a veteran evening anchor at Fox 5 Atlanta, has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence in a wrong-way crash, according to the Atlanta police. She was reportedly driving northbound in the southbound lane on Piedmont Ave. at 12:30 a.m. early Sunday morning. She was taken to jail and released later that day.

Details are in this story on ajc.com with her mug shot.

You have to give WAGA-TV credit for reporting the news on air and on its website, though the headline does not reference the DUI.

Davis has worked at Fox 5 since 1986 and anchors the 6 and 10 p.m. news. She was an original anchor in 1992 for “Good Day Atlanta.”

Sorry to hear of this both for the victim as well as Amanda. She is a local icon, I hope this turns out to be all a mistake…

I am totally surprised. I hope this doesn’t prompt her to leave her seat on the news. Please allow her to stay.

She should be treated like any other citizen arrested for drunk driving. But, we all know that will not happen.. Just saying………

The media is looking after their own with this statement. I can hardly remember this sort of request for other citizens who make news.

First I do not partake in adult beverages, however, as mentioned above if you do just take a cab. What may/will happen is not worth the risk.

Maybe it was cold medicne or something like that.

How interesting that you would threaten people commenting when you (the media) never have a problem accusing and defaming people whether their guilty or not. Talk about calling the kettle black. Davis certainly needs to get serious treatment for her excessive drinking problem don’t you think?

My father was killed by a drunk driver. That she is an attractive and talented t.v. anchor means ZERO. She was lucky she didn’t kill someone driving the wrong way on a one-way street. I will pray that she gets her act together, this is arrest number two, and I will pray for those who pray for her when they are murdered by a drunk driver.

Sorry to hear of Amanda’s misfortune. I look forward to seeing her on the news and hope this too shall pass and she is able to move on….but learning this is not acceptable and her career should be the drive to keep this type of thing from happening.

Amanda, We will be praying for you. First we want to tell you God loves you. We hope you don’t get fired from your job. We pray that you will get to the root of your problems, because we know you have struggled for years. This is only the outward struggle with a issue rooted much deeper. We love you and pray for everyone involve.

Amanda is one of the best television anchors in the business. Unless there is a contract stipulation, Fox5 Execs will likely announce a leave of absence, reduce her role but not fire her. Unfortunately, it could signal the end of her run there.

He who without sin let him cast the first stone. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. Some of you need to think about some of the things that you have done that we dont know about before you start talking about others. Ms. Davis, I will be praying for you and your family, keep the faith and I hope to see you on your job soon.

The greatest leaders in the world make mistakes; she will not be first or the last. I will not hold this against, but I feel she made a poor decision to drive. Please get help Amanda and my prayers are with you and your family

And remember, just because you’re arrested for a DUI doesn’t make you drunk. But, going the wrong way is a big indicator. I wish her the best because she’s good people. Glad no one died.

“…but I’d say a lot of you have done the same thing. Don’t be so quick to throw stones if you could have ever been in the same boat.” – EXACTLY. Anyone who drinks (even one strong one) takes a chance of getting tagged by the police. Don’t throw stones you hard head can’t block!!

We are all human and only god can judge. She is allowed her mistakes and if it is meant for her to keep her job she will. It is irrelevant who she works for and her status within the community. Prayerfully, this will be resolved properly without affecting Amanda’s career; and why should it??? I’m sure many drink and drive. It’s about knowing your limits. Please stop the Holier than Thou sentiments. We ALL have faults of some sort and are HUMAN. Your Profession and Career choices doesn’t eliminate one from being Natural. Be REAL… Don’t HATE because you’ve lost someone due to drinking ‘n driving. ACCIDENTS-ACCIDENTS-ACCIDENTS !!! Learn and Know your Limits. Be Safe. ~PEACE~

She really has a drinking problem. I’m not sure if anybody remembers but years ago while she was an anchor on FOX 5 she was arrested for DUI. If memory serves me correctly she was taken off the air after that incident. Alcoholism is a disease that people have to deal with everyday. I hope she gets the help she needs and learn to take one day at a time. Driving while drunk can cause harm not only to her but to innocent people on the road. THINK BEFORE YOU DRINK

I’m a huge fan of Amanda Davis and my wife knows I look forward to fox evening news because of her. Should fox news make the mistake of firing her, it is au revoir to fox 5. It is wrong to d.u.i but it is not an offence that should effect her job. We all make mistakes. My advice to her to is to seek my willing assistance next time she goes drinking. I will be at “Her Majesty Service”

The best thing we all can learn from this is that no one can escape this law and the humiliation and cost is fairly successful at stopping repeat offenders…I agree, no one is perfect. Look at this, imprint your mind because before you have even your first sip of alcohol, make it a reflex to automatically know your transportation arrangements. If not, you too will be caught. Play with fire enough, you will always get burned.
