Getting giddy on election night: Diane Sawyer

Pundits and top-drawer journalists were out in force pontificating last night for election night 2012. Karl Rove was losing his mind on Fox News. On CNN, John King was working his magic fingers on the magic board, down to the county. The MSNBC crew was partying it up.

But the one personality getting the most buzz this morning: Diane Sawyer.

A few times, a seemingly giddy Sawyer slurred her words and mispronounced others, with a few oddly placed pauses to make people think something was amiss. Someone quickly created a “drunk Diane Sawyer” on Twitter, where comments about her behavior proliferated. Singer Josh Groban noted on Twitter, “I’ll have what Diane Sawyer is having.”

Perhaps she was just tired.

“OK,” she said at one point at about 10 p.m.. “I wanna — can we have our music, because this is another big one here? Minnesota, we’re ready to project Minnesota, rrright now. … Well, tonight we know that President Barack has won Minnesota.”

And here’s Karl Rove questioning Fox News calling Ohio:

Victor Hill is reelected and Obama wins after crushing our kids with 8 trillion in additional debt. As The Regular Guys said….this proves that reality is optional for 40% of the population. How true. It will come home to roost though and the Occupiers who are raiding the treasury will soon (like their fearless leader aka Santa Claus) will be unable to to blame anyone other than themselves. Diane might have the right idea.

@George Robinson – It’s a republican state because of all the ignorant rednecks that still permeate the entire state and other states too. You are right though sbout one thing, why would poor people support a party that cares nothing about them? Republicans are constantly reminded by talking heads such as Limbaugh that poor equates to lazy and uneducated. I don’t get why they would support that?

@youpeoplehavenolife,

Seriously, friend, if you are quoting The Regular Guys for insightful political analysis, you may want to take a look in a mirror before accusing others of “having no life.” I used to work with the Guys, and I can tell you that it’s an act specifically desgned to make money off of gullible, arch-conservative souls such as yourself.

I sat in a restaurant full of Georgian’s last night watching the returns and it seems the majority wanted Romney to win, and sadly for 1 reason only. They could not stand the thought of putting the “black” man back in the white house! It had nothing to do with politics. It was disgusting to listen to the talk and realize there are so many registered voters who are clueless about what they are voting for.
Before anyone goes off on me, I support/appluade anyone who goes to the polls and makes an informed decision, whichever way they vote.

November 7th, 2012

@ you people-dont get me wrong I voted Republican straight across but under Bush the debt double and increased as a percentage every year. Under Democratics (Clinton and Obama) the debt raise as a percentage has decreased. Need to know your facts before you speak. It is better to keep your mouth shut and look like an idiot than to open it and prove everyone that you are.

@You People. Hey, how about doing a little research before you spout off. Bush raised the debt ceiling $4,899T during his time in office and Barack $4,936T. However, Bush DID NOT put the war in Iraq and Afganistan on the books. Barack did for transparency. Most of Barack’s debt has come from cleaning up Iraq and Afganistan as well as the bailouts. Where were your complaints about the debt then. When Jimmy Carter left there was only 1 trillion dollars in debt. Ronnie Reagan ran it up as did George Herbert. Clinton balance the budget and did not increase the debt when he handed it over to Dubya. Again, where was your outrage especially when we found out there were no WMD’s in Iraq?

This was the most important election of our lifetime!! I am a working middle class American and I am wondering how in the heck did we elect him for another term!! I am worried about the next 4 years and if we will still be a nation or will we be so in debt to a foreign nation that we are no longer the United States of America. Not all red necks are uneducated, I know alot of rednecks, they work, pay taxes, and help support our government. In the past, people supported democrats, but anymore the party isn’t as important as the person and what they stand for. We all need to be praying for all of our leaders. God Bless America!!

However, 97% of black folks voted for this failure of a president. He hasn’t done and won’t do squat for gays and marijuana users will still be prosecuted by the FEDS.

@see no evil – Don’t you realize that Obama and the Dems perpetuate and enable the poor mindset by giving them chump change, lowering the work requirement to receive welfare and giving away free cell phones!?

Why go against our leader when he gives away so much and spends our country into a deeper recession. We are likely to hit our debt limit by the end of this year but have no fear because Obama is here. He will increase our debt limit like he did last August (raised it by $2.4 trillion and he has almost blew through all of that borrowing authority in only 15 months).

Didn’t any of you read the exit poll results that 60% of the people who voted thought GWB was just as responsible as Obama for the national debt? One thing’s for sure, the country survived 8 years of Reagan and Bush. I’m sure we’ll make it through 4 more years of Obama. If you don’t think so, try your luck in Costa Rica, Canada, Mexico or some other country.

How many old people that voted for Romney receive social security or Medicare? Think you paid for those benefits with your crap job for 30 years?? Guess what, what you put into that was used up in the first three years of you collecting! These are our biggest “handouts” people and everyone is too eager to get theirs while they continue to act like it’s Georgia in 1962 instead of 2012.

If Obama was truly interested in working with both sides he should start by calling Bush and asking him for advice on how he created a record 52 straight months of job growth instead of constantly blaming him!
You are what your record says you are! Own it and try to do something different in your second term. The debt, ObamaCare and the fiscal cliff is going to lead to massive inflation and interest rates that rival the pre Reagan years!

The funny thing about this election is that right wingers are thinking now in 2012 what left wingers were thinking the day after the election in 2004: people are stupid.

I couldn’t disagree more. People liked where things were going at the time so they decided that 4 more was okay…of course by the end of the second term, they were too preoccupied by fear-mongering to notice that the economy was going to hell, banks were about to die and be angry.

Why? Because there are two kinds of listeners: those who see the rhetoric for what it is, roll their eyes and research the outrage that they’re presented with and those who take it all in at face value as the be all-end all and begin spreading the un-vetted information they’ve been given.

Fact: talk radio pundits are ENTERTAINERS first and foremost. They’re not teachers..they’re not gurus..they’re not “ministers of enlightenment”. ENTERTAINERS. It’s a valid market because people like to be outraged.

So, this whole thing can go two ways…washington can start coming to terms and show that they’re making an effort to bring the land of sweet madam blue back to it’s former glory or they can spend the next 2-4 years being stubborn and we fall further into a hole becomes more challenging for us to get out of.

Right now, people need to start focusing on putting pressure on their representatives in congress and the senate to make this machine work again. Quick gloating and/or whining. Pressure. Make them work for us or work on firing them. Simple as that.

Seriously why?

November 7th, 2012
3:19 pm

I was raised in Alabama, have lived in both California and Georgia. The most racist people I’ve ever met lived in California, but they were not true Californians. They were northerners just passing through. Georgia is not full of rednecks….obviously you’ve never been to Georgia if you believe that. I am not a redneck. I work and I have never received any form of government assistance. Who I voted for? The person that I thought was most qualified, based on his experience..nothing to do with race or religion.

On Tuesday, November 6, 2012, the United States of America elected its President. The US Constitution assures that majority rules, and minority rights are protected. It is every citizen’s responsibility to exercise the rights that the US Constitution assures, be informed (e.g. President Obama has issued 141 Executive Orders not 900 per The American Presidency Project http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php ), and to diligently hold our elected representatives accountable as they serve, not lead, the American people.
We as a nation have too many real problems to solve to allow politicians, pundits or contrarians to drive the conversation, create confusion or be self-serving. Members of the legislative, judicial and executive branches get a check whether or not they serve the citizens’ interests. It is the university (unified diversity) of the US citizenry that contributes to the success of this political experiment called America–we must each work with our own hands with the goal of success.

“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Gal6.7,9-10

I do not give two Sh&*ts if Obama is black, brown, purple, straight, gay or bi-sexual. What I do care about is his Socialism agenda. He strongly agrees and has said it publically hundred plus times that he believes in wealth distribution which is the core Socialistic value and is NOT what our country was based on. Couple that with Obama-care (Socailized medicine), trillions of dollars in debt and higher taxes and our country is doomed. Why can not people just admit and own what they are – if you support Obama you believe in Socialism-period.

Did you people really enjoy Bush’s presidency that much that you would want to repeat it? I’m curious, can you name a Republican president who was actually good for your quality of life? If you look at all the graphs (MATH) and numbers, the economy and the country as a whole seems to grow more under Democratic presidents. So I’m trying to understand what makes Obama so much worse than Bush or Bush’s dad or even Reagan (who busted the defict wide open and created a huge drug culture and more poor folks in the process?) When you wax nostalgic about “your” America, to what are you specifically referring?
