Ted Hall gets (very brief) cameo in Denzel Washington’s ‘Flight’

Sometimes, films and TV shows will use actual journalists to enhance the believability of said film and TV show.

111102022206_tedAtlanta-shot “Flight” starring Denzel Washington, which opened strongly over the weekend with solid reviews and more than $25 million in grosses, uses Piers Morgan of CNN prominently. He’s seen on TV screens interviewing key figures from the plane crash Washington’s character piloted. A fictional Atlanta-based Channel 12 News team provides on-the-scene coverage.

But the film also shot a short scene with Ted Hall, morning anchor for 11 Alive News, that barely made it on screen. Hall said earlier this year he read a 30-second bit related to the accident.

When he watched the film, he didn’t see himself when he thought the producers would use him so he presumed he landed on the cutting-room floor.

Then near the end of the movie, Washington’s character Whip is sitting in a room at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in downtown Atlanta the night before an National Transportation Safety Board hearing idly flipping channels. I caught maybe a half-second shot of Hall on the screen, so quick that Hall’s boss John Deushane didn’t even catch it.

“So quick,” Hall texted this morning, “I could tell it was my tie and voice but didn’t register my face.”

“That half second was a bonus,” he added.
