Whatever happened to Regular Guys’ ‘Mixmaster’ Mark Owens and Bert Show’s Wendy Adams?

Mark Owens has a new gig producing at 92.9/The Game

Mark Owens has a new gig producing at 92.9/The Game

“Mixmaster” Mark Owens, who spent several years at Q100 and then Rock 100.5 as a producer, has moved on to be a producer on 92.9/The Game for the new afternoon show featuring Carl Dukes, Kordell Stewart and Rachel Baribeau.

For the past four years, he has been working the boards for the Regular Guys, getting regularly teased and verbally pummeled. They are still mentioning him on air on occasion.

Previously, he had worked with the 99X morning show featuring Sean Demery, Leslie Fram and Jenners. And besides a brief stint in Rome, he produced for Q100’s the Bert Show as Phil Terrana, an inside joke related to former Star 94 morning host Steve McCoy’s real name.

You can also see Mark as the between-innings correspondent at Atlanta Braves games.

His wife, coincidentally, has the same due date as Jenn Hobby of Q100.

And speaking of Q100, former traffic reporter Wendy Adams has also joined 92.9/The Game as a sports producer for Jim Murray’s show from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. She was let go from Q100 in June.

CBS has hired dozens of people to start the station Oct. 24, a serious investment it hopes will ultimately pay off.

Also, Rich Sullivan, former Dave FM jock, stayed on during the transition but has decided to leave the station and is seeking a new job.  He recently noted this on his Facebook page:

I will be working though mid November, training some of the producers and board ops. I’m excited about what’s coming next. Good things are in the works.

And Mara Davis, who left Dave FM last month, is available to work. She was released from her non-compete clause and can start on air somewhere in Atlanta today – if someone will take her. She did a two-hour guest stint yesterday on WMLB/1690 AM “The Voice of the Arts.” Here’s the list of songs she played.

Here’s a note Mark sent me earlier in the week:

Things are really good. It was my 3rd launch (99x pt. 2, TRG version 3.0 and now 929 The Game) and this was the most stressful. There was a lot of excitement and it felt really big and also nerve racking. But so far, its been great. It took no time getting used to sleeping past 430. That was an easy adjustment.

The shows are coming together. We have all been working really hard on Game Time (Carl, Kordell and Rachel) and it has a good “team” feel.
Plus, CBS has a ton of resources and they are making sure every employee, producer, team member have what they need. We are all looking forward to getting the new studios built (plan is for mid December).

As far as TRG still talking trash, its good to hear they haven’t forgot about me. Most everybody was very happy for my move and understood why I left. [Program Director] Rob [Roberts]and Cumulus was really easy to deal with when I left. I was prepared for the “perp walk” out of the station, but Rob was cool, understood my situation and was happy for the move. Ironically, the 2 guys (on TRG) who still make fun of me the most were the first to ask for heads up when there are openings over here.. So I don’t take it too personally..

I wonder if anyone’s opinion of Mark is even remotely in the same general area as Mark’s opinion of himself? I mean I like Mark and all but he really seems quite impressed with himself and always has.

I remember that a big story line with Phil Terrana (I mean Mark) when he was on the Bert Show was his being single and dating, and there was another intern on there (I think her name was Jen or something) who was single too. Aww, so Phil got married. Good for him.

So let me get this correct. You have the Braves in game host as a producer, outside of baseball and being a punching bag for various Atlanta radio DJs does he know anything? And you have a girl’s who claim to fame is crying and being sloppy on the radio. How is she creditable to produce anything considering her history is filled with reality show tweets and crazy weekend benders that she ends up with married dudes, musicians and athletes. How long before her a CJ become best friends?

When is “The Game” going to add traffic reports to their morning and afternoon shows? That’s one of the reasons I’ve been hesitant to fully follow them. Seems to be they could have used the same traffic team that was used when it was DaveFM.

Any time I have put on The Game it has been absolutely dreadful. Even Buck and Kincaid have better chemistry.

If anyone should be on The Game right now it’s me. The fact that I’m not is nothing but pure racism. Me Doug and Mel from SW Atlanta 3-7… Now that’s a lineup for success! And I’m gone! *dawgs barking*

That was when The Bert Show was at its peak. Phil really was hysterical! They should get another man on the street/ stuntman again.

And what a great decision to leave TRG to join a show with Kordell Stewart. After listening to some of Buck Belue’s college football show I never thought I’d hear someone dumber on sports talk radio than Kelin Johnson but alas, I listened to Kordell the other afternoon and Kelin has a soulmate. I would actually thoroughly enjoy a Kordell and Kelin show…. Just 2 idiots chatting about sports and stuff. There’s your name too, ‘2 Live Idiots’….

Listen Bobby R… don’t be stealing our gimmick, er, ideas. We are the only two black guys in the world that talk sports. And call barber shops instead of talking sports. Anyone else who does it is a racist.

Allegedly of course. Just know that no matter what I say my attorney has instructed me to throw allegedly at the end.

I ate Coco Puffs for breakfast this morning… allegedly.
Paul Johnson is a college football coach… allegedly. Actually, that’s just a lie. He plays a football coach on Saturdays.

what is the obsession with mara davis? I am sure she is nice and she does a nice job but we are not talking Dick Clark or Wolfman Jack here.

Correct. Kordell Stewart is awful. I guess one of his slashes isn’t radio personality.

The Monday after the falcons went to 7-0 and the dawgs beat UF I turned on the game for some sports talk. All I heard for 9 straight minutes was talk about one of the male hosts getting his wisdom teeth out and then the slunt host shared her wisdom teeth tales. It sounded as bad as the bert show or Steve and vikki.

Listen to me z93 sports- DONT FKKK THIS UP. YOUR COMPETITION IS HORRIBLE. ALL U HAVE TO DO IN ATLANTA IS BROADCAST A STRONG SIGNAL AND TALK ABOUT SPORTS, DAMMIT.

Nothing like mining the Cumulus cast offs to build a mediocre product. I’ve listened to ‘The Game’ – or tried to – but they sound forced, fake and full of it. Mark Owens went over there of his own accord so this here retired radio gadfly salutes his courage. Won’t be his fault when it fails (and it will fail unless Cumulus buys CBS).

I had a chance to meet Steve at his bar last year and he spent most of the time talking about my girlfriends chest and how lucky I was. I guess thats his game. We also met Mark at a Braves game this summer and he was very down to earth. He said there was a lot of tension on the show, but thats what made it good. I’m sad to see him go but will always listen to the Regular Guys.

So when will 92.9 become the flagship for Georgia State athletics or is that not urban enough for their liking? Morehouse Athletics it is by this time next year the only white kids on the station will be on the Morehouse Baseball team.

Read Wendy’s Facebook page and tweets. She must be the most uneducated woman in radio. Seriously. Plus, she’s working for this station AND ASKING IF ANYONE HAS FALCONS TICKETS.
