Paige Thomas made it through. CREDIT: Fox
These live shows remain loud, brash and borderline obnoxiously in your face.
And I didn’t really agree with any of the showdown picks, especially David Correy. I can’t believe they kept Vino over him.
There is some talent here, especially the younger singers. And who would name any kid in this day and age Beatrice?
So all is not lost. I’m not sure if this is a better crew than last year, though.
Anyway, Khloe Kardashian wore some hideous blue rubber suit. And Demi changed her hair – again, and now looks like she could be Anne Frank. The crowd screaming is again incredibly annoying, especially during ballads.
Who’s in immediately on Demi Lovato’s Young Adults team
1) Janelle Garcia. No surprise. Demi really liked her doppelganger.
2) Paige Thomas. I wasn’t impressed but clearly she’s a Demi fav.
The showdown is: CeCe Frey vs. Willie Jones
CeCe (”Out Here On My Own” Irene Cara) – Crap song. Bored stiff. While technically solid, she doesn’t connect with me at all and there is nothing remotely distinctive about her voice. She is fundamentally unlikable at the core. Grade: B-minus
Willie (”You Don’t Know Me” Ray Charles) – Good but lacks the resonance or the tenderness of the original. He’s beyond his depth. “You need someone who understands what to do with your voice,” Simon said. Grade: B/-B minus
Demi picks: 3) CeCe! Blech. I still would have selected Willie.
L.A Reid’s Over 25’s’
First two saves:
1) Vino Alan. Over David Correy? Really?
2) Tate Stevens. No surprise there.
Faceoff: David Correy vs. Jason Brock
Correy (”Since U Been Gone” Kelly Clarkson) He slows it up and adds his own brand of angst. It’s a bit over the top in the histrionics department but effective. “Melodramatic,” Simon noted. Grade: B-plus/A-minus
Brock (”One Moment In Time” Whitney Houston) A much better song choice than last night and he hits at least a double. He misses a few notes but overall, he did a good enough job. “There’s something really genuine behind your eyes,” Demi said. Grade: A-minus
L.A. picks 3) Brock. So somehow, the guy I liked best is out and the guy who arguably had the worst performance last night survives. Go figure!
Britney’s young teens
First two saves:
1) Beatrice Miller. She isn’t my favorite but okay.
2) Carly Rose Sonenclar. I can’t complain. I get the appeal. Love her voice.
The face-off: Arin Ray vs. Diamond White.
Arin (”I Look To You” Whitney – again) He does ballads surprisingly well. This worked better than I would have expected. Grade: B-plus
Diamond (”Sorry Seems to Be The Hardest Word” Elton John) I generally prefer her over Arin as a more interesting artist. He seems too generic. She has that little extra something. Go Diamond. Grade: A-minus
Britney picks 3) Arin. I was a much bigger fan of Diamond. Bummer. I do hope they find a way to bring it back and make it a top 13.
Simon Cowell’s groups
Two saves:
No surprises here: 1) Emblem 3. Duh.
2) Lyric 145. Surprise! But they have real skills so that’s good.
Showdown: Sister C vs. 1432
Sister C (”When I Look At You” Miley Cyrus) – Adequate rendition of an exceedingly dull song. I am still a fan though the harmonies weren’t quite as sharp as they were on “Hell on Heels.” Grade: B
1432 (”Skyscraper” Demi Lovato) – This still sounds like five different women stuck together. Is there a leader here? Another lame-o ballad but in this case, it’s one of the judge’s songs. Whatev. Grade: B
Simon picks: 1432. Of course he did. This is a Franken-group. They have to keep them around. And Simon is truly clueless about country so Sister C was doomed. He hates the name 1432 and will try to get the public to choose their name. I agree.

Not sure that there’s that much interest yet, Rodney.
One thing I’ve learned tonight is that Khloe and cue cards do not play well together. She either puts pauses in odd places or she sounds so robotic while reading that RoboHost himself seems more human!

Kudos to Klohe for wearing a dress that’s really unsuitable but that she obviously wanted to wear.”Stylist, schmylist” – I can hear her now,
Of the 16 XF “acts” there are four I can see myself spending money on:
Diamond, Sonenclare (sp?), Beatrice and Sister C.

@JTesla, Yeah LA couldn’t even remember Jason’s name. Talk about an awkward moment! I thought Khloe’s dress looked like a swimming pool liner!
I still think they’ll follow the UK X-Factor and have a wild-card with Diamond coming back. She may be this years Melanie Amaro. Hey if it works once… Beatrice Miller will be the big meltdown this year. She is not emotionally mature to handle getting sent home. Carly Rose and Diamond although the same age are far more mature emotionally and vocally IMO.

As voting begins next week:
Upper Level = Carly Rose Soneclar / Emblem 3 / Jennel Garcia
2nd floor = Lylas-1432 / Lyric 145 / Beatrice Miller / Tate Stevens
Ground floor = Cece Frey / Vino Alan / Arin Ray
Basement = Paige Thomas & Jason Brock
This mini-handicapping has nothing to do with how good a singer each one is. It has more to do with anticipated popularity against the competition at hand. With Judges favor, or something that captures the real voters fancy – one could jump-up a floor or even 2. How many times was Marcus Canty in the bottom 2 last year?
Jason Brock was likely saved because he had way more social media hits on his bizarre, buzz-starting and entertaining performance than David Correy. The UK X-Factor would have a ball with Jason Brock. Sister C was toast before the feigned decision-making act by Simon.

Does anyone think Khloe is helping ratings?? Seems I hear many people say they wish they would just let Mario handle it, and cut-down the chatter. Myself, dough no – just wondered if others think she is helping ratings — or just another bad guess on celebrity power by Simon and the Producers.

RE: Bringing someone back –
The show has made a big deal of the competition factor between the Judges/mentors this year, advertised it, promoted it. If they bring someone back, it would make that hoopla an instant farce, because one team would then have 4 against 3 on the other teams. Not sayin’ they won’t do that, just sayin’ it makes their “competition factor” look foolish if they do. But then, this is X-Factor, could happen.

Morning! I think that IF there is a wildcard, it will be David Correy returning. The audience was hugely disappointed when he wasn’t picked. The reaction to Diamond’s elimination was hardly noticeable.
Frankly, I thought David Correy sounded awful on last night’s song. I wouldn’t have picked him either. And Jason will be eliminated soon enough.
Arin wasn’t very good either and I was surprised that he was picked over Diamond despite Diamond’s voice being just okay, nothing special.
In fact, I didn’t hear anything special the last 2 nights. Some were better than others but nobody was good enough to make me sit up and pay closer attention.

Morning!
1. Khloe doesn’t add anything to the show. She is clearly an amateur at announcing and reading teleprompters. As D said, she constantly pauses between words (as if she’s waiting for the prompter to scroll down). And she adds an emPHASis on words at odd times, trying to sound more dramatic.
2. On a curious, not-too-serious note: Was there a height restriction for the contestants? Although Khloe seems to be the amazon of the Kardashian clan, I didn’t think Mario Lopez was that tall. Yet they both towered over just about all the contestants – even the over-25’s.
3. Can’t help but think the constant use of the term “act” is a less than subtle way to avoid using the term ‘team’. As if XF is trying to differentiate itself from The Voice by using a different word. Or are they telling us that their contestants are only ACTing like singers?
4. Still can’t stand the voice-over guy! Even though his voice fits in with the whole manufactured drama used by the show’s producers.
Lastly, I don’t know for sure how much more of this show I can take. After hearing viewers complaints and reviewing the ratings from last season, Simon didn’t seem to listen to much (other than the first season’s host and panel issues.) For a singing competition, there sure is still a lot of friggin’ dancing going on. And for the most part, it detracts from the contestant’s performance rather than adding to it! The constant over-production on the songs is really turning me off.
Oops! Kinda went on a bit long there, huh? This will probably end up looking like one of those long posts that some people don’t want to take the time to read.

Good Morning!
Busy day… but I have to encourage you first-nighter at the movies to check out Denzel Washington in his sure-to-be-Oscar-nominated performance in “Flight”. He plays an alcoholic and drug-addicted pilot who somehow rights a faulty airplane by flying it upside down and makes almost all passengers survive a horrific crash.

Perhaps both The Voice judges and XF judges don’t like the way the public chooses winners based on the Idol results. The judges may think that using their power to narrow the field to “acceptable” possible winners gives them more control.
I say, the public wants what it wants despite the protests from music “experts”, afficianados(or however that is spelled) and elitists who look down their noses at what the public thinks is good.
This is where Idol got extremely lucky. Its first season gave us Kelly Clarkson who is still the benchmark for all aspiring contestants and singing competitions. With the possible exception of Carrie Underwood, no other competition winner has reached her acceptance level with critics and public alike. Her win has give Idol the highest possible credentials in the singing competition arena.

I think Diamond White if she doesn’t comeback ala Melanie Amaro is this years Jazzlyn Little.
As for David Correy I didn’t think he was very good last night but neither was Jason Brock. Jason had a lot of pitch problems.
I will agree with those who said it was hard to hear the singers over the music. Being the first live show it’s something that must be corrected.
Deirdre, I do think the judges try to stack the deck as best as they can before fans vote but 5 million is a lot to invest so I don’t blame them. I only see Janelle, Emblem3,Carly Rose Sonenclar and Tate Stevens with a chance to win. Vino might be a dark horse in the race. Tate because the country vote might carry him. Carly Rose has the best voice which is usually the kiss of death. Thefinals will probably come down to Emblem3 and Janelle. I do think all 5 have a chance to sign a record deal.
I think the first bottom two will have two of the following : CeCe, Beatrice, Jason or Lyric145 Regardless of how they singI think they’re the first 4 to go

Rather, Is The Voice doing the same?
I’m still picking Emblem 3 to take it home. Simon should just let Lyric 145 be, before it’s too late. Apparently, he’s showing his lack of experience in dealing with hip hop artists.
If I have to compare XF talent to Idol at this point……..I ask myself are there better performers and singers than Jessica, Joshua, and PP. What I see so far:
Jessica – There are no singers male or females that can go toe to toe with her.
Joshua – There are no singers that bring as much soul to a song.
PP – There are no wgwg that I can see.
The Voice, on the other hand, has the talent to match Idol, and surpass Xf. But I’m not sure if they have the ” mainstream appeal” to surpass an Emblem 3 or pp.
DanJ

@G- I agree that vocally Jessica is stronger vocally than anyone on XF however I think Carly Rose COULD be a better over all singer. Jessica was often stiff and didn’t seem to connect with a song Carly can do that. Head to head if I was voting I’d take Carly.
Joshua? Sadly the Joshua’s of the world are rare. I think he’s in a league of his own. Much was made of his screaming but few saw it for what it was…passion. So I completely agree no one on XF compares to him.
PP? Pleeeeze! On the positive side he is the best WGWG Idol has ever had based on sales. I even like and bought the song Home but I will be more likely to buy a Vino Alan or Tate Stevens CD than PP’s. He’s like grits without butter, salt & pepper. Bland!

I have to disagree with you on that, meet Emblem 3. The issue of PP, and the problem with the WGWG is the young female demographic voting for them over all others. What will we get with Emblem 3, that same demographic voting for them over all others. They may not hold guitars, but it’s still the same thing.
The problem isn’t that WGWG’s are white, or guys, or guitars, it’s that a certain demographic will save them even when they stink.

I soooo agree! Why else would Simon take “groups”? He was looking to create another swoon-worthy money-making juggernaut. I think Emblem3 will crack the top 5 but a lot can happen in the next few weeks. I can’t rule out Janelle or Carly. Badboys tend to lose their appeal. From Joe Morgenstern’s review in the Wall Street Journal: “However wildly over the top the sequence may seem to be, it’s only a heightening of what actually happened off the California coast in 2000 when a loose jackscrew jammed the horisontal stabilizer of an Alaska Airlines MD-83, sending the airplane into a dive from which the pilots tried, unseccesfully, to recover by flying upside down.”

I would make a friendly “shout-out” wager on the blog, that Cece outlasts Tate Stevens on the show.
I don’t doubt that Jason, Lyric 145 might be among the first 4 out. And young Beatrice is battling against Carly Rose, Jennel and lylas-1432 for the young cute girl vote – and in a bottom 2 vote by Judges, she would likely be the one who isn’t supported – she’s only 13, like Carly, but Carly already has a much bigger fan base from her TV appearances in youth oriented shows and a following as a child actress and singer.
However, my guess is that if they can showcase Beatrice’s voice with the right song choices, i can see her cruising into the top 8.
So I’ll bet anyone a “shoutout” on the blog that Cece Frey outlasts Tate Stevens. That should arouse some interest.

From TMZ:
Mario Lopez couldn’t get enough of that teleprompter on “X Factor” this week, because he was reading Khloe Kardashian‘s lines and screwing her up in the process … but sources tell us it wasn’t his fault.
Sources connected with the show tell us Khloe got “really upset” because Mario jacked her lines several times, reading his lines and then reading some of hers … and screwing up her timing in the process.
Khloe forced the issue with producers after Thursday’s show, wondering aloud if he was doing it on purpose. After a short discussion, it became clear to Khloe that Mario was on the up and up — there were glitches in the production that confused everyone and things got a little out of control during the live broadcast.
Now here’s what’s really interesting. Khloe has heard what we’ve been saying — that producers were insane to make her read a teleprompter, because it robs her of her personality. Fact is … it’s hard for a novice to read a prompter.
We’re told Khloe is open to leaving the hosting duties to Mario, and taking on the personality-driven interviews without a teleprompter.
Sounds like a good idea to us.

For the record, I can’t figure out what I’m looking forward to more, the end of the election or the end of the world come December 21. They will probably both have the same results, but it’s time to lay low.

Here is my list of priorities for tomorrow:
1) 13th wedding anniversary
2) Release of Halo 4
3) Hope that Rodney gives us a new topic that doesn’t have a picture of someone dressed in a Halloween get-up.
4) I guess there is an election thing going on, so I’ll be sure to make the kid watch the results with me so I can impress her with my knowledge of the Electoral College, because only kids who are 7 are impressed with my knowledge of the Electoral College.

JTesla–sorry. I’ve been busy in Walking Dead/RHOA land today and I haven’t seen anything big enough about Idol breaking to post something quick. I am on a press conference with one of the Walking Dead actors. I’ll try to post something Idol related by 4 p.m. or so.

No worries Rodney, I’m just holding out hope for tomorrow. Maybe an Idol will tweet something that is news worthy.
You gotta give the peeps what they want, and zombies seem to be what the peeps are into.

OK, I’ll try to post again. I have no idea where the previous post went.
I haven’t seen WD yet so I have been avoiding Rodney’s recap. I’ll try to watch this afternoon and post my comments on that thread.
JT..happy anniversary tomorrow!

Hi! Here! Delayed by cat issues. My Miss Kitty has at least 12 lives.

Ok, Mercedes: What has the 3-legged wonder done now? Hope it’s nothing regarding her poor battered and bruised body!

Should be a 2 hour live session of The Voice tonight? And both X-Fac & Voice go head-to-head on Wed. & Thurs.?
