‘X Factor’ first live show debuting Oct. 31, not Nov. 1; Kelly Clarkson, Phillip Phillips updates

With the San Francisco Giants sweeping the Detroit Tigers in the World Series, Fox’s schedule has opened up so they have moved up “The X Factor” top 16 live show to Wednesday, Oct. 31 and the top 12 reveal on Thursday Nov. 1.

We get to see Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez in action as co-hosts and be terribly judgmental about it. Mario is a pro at this hosting work. Khloe? Who knows?

***

Carrie Underwood is one of the performers at the American Music Awards on Nov. 18.

***

Phillip Phillips talks to the Hollywood Reporter about his upcoming album “The World From the Side of the Moon,” due out Nov. 19. That album title is a lyric from his song “Man on the Moon.” They did the album in three weeks.  He did it in New York City, which he likes more than Los Angeles.

His single “Home” is on the verge of the top 20 on the CHR chart.  In the meantime, his famliy is auctioning off some of his personal effects.

***

Kelly Clarkson, who will be performing on the CMA Music Awards Thursday with Vince Gill in a duet, has a new single “Catch My Breath,” which is racing up the Hot AC chart. She also has a greatest hits album coming out.

Here’s the cover for her Vince Gill duet “Don’t Rush.” I prefer Kelly as a brunette.

At least all the schedule changes will give Simon an excuse for the low ratings.

That’s Kelly?

Thanks Rodney. I’m going to try to watch the show, but that is also opening night for the Trail Blazers, candy night, and I’ll probably need to wash my hair or my socks or something. I’ll try to catch some of it, but X-Factor is just not that appealing.

We don’t get a lot of candy seekers at my house. The neighborhood is hilly with long driveways. But I will stock up on some candy for tomorrow night. I sure “someone” will eat the leftovers. ;-)

I may have socks to wash, too but I’ll give the XF live show a shot anyway.

I am so looking forward to the live auditions. I’m enjoying XFactor this year.

I purchased a halloween costume for a party that I didn’t attend. Only saw 4 cars in driveway and it didn’t warrant me getting dressed. Guess I’ll put it on tomorrow and pass out some candy. Something I haven’t done in years.

Deirdre, we don’t get a lot either, but we get the full size candy bars. Makes it easy to pass them out, the neighbor kids love us, and it provides a nice snack that should last until Thanksgiving. It’s win win win

DB Tidbits: 1. What is it with all these photos of KC lately that don’t even look like her? I’ve seen Kelly in her “normal state” and she is not all that pretty, so they must have to do a lot of embellishment and makeup. 2. They are not only auctioning “some” of PP’s personal items, but the entire Phillips pawn shop as well at the same time. Item on it on the WALB-TV website if you are interested in going to Albany GA. 3. Demi Lovato sounded worse than an amateur with her rendition of the SSB at the WS game. It’s wasn’t just pathetic, it was atrocious. Item on it on Yahoo Sports yesterday if you didn’t hear it. As bad as I hate scratching on a blackboard I would rather have listened to that. BUT, at least she had some company that night. The 4 soldiers(2 male,2 female) who did “God Bless America” was almost as bad. They were off-pitch and the melody was off in places. All these sporting events need to stick to country performers as about 99% of them come through with good renditions, and they are not apt to pull any “hijinks”.

K&CF: You go girl! I’ve mentioned pretty much the same with this one before. But I’d probably say “lived down”.

Personally, I think Kelly is lovely. This isn’t a good pic, but she’s got an adorable face and a fabulous personality to match. Great looking inside and out. And untouchable/unmatchable talent to boot.

For our regular guys: Forgot to mention that last week Ellen had as a guest Portia – promoting her new tv show – an update of the Adams Family. She looked really pretty – has a new short bob hairdo the really suited her.

BTW, I happen to be proud of my family given name of BASS, as I have stated before, and I am entitled to my opinion the same as the rest of you. Makes me really wonder what kind of people would disparage someone’s “God-given family name”? As I have explained several times before, the “DUM” part comes from a high school friend whom I have lost track of. It stuck with me and I use it for “self-deprecation” to stay humble. Something I am sure a lot of you have no idea what that even is. The “sensitive one” seems to be rather hypocritical when it comes right down to it.

Go ahead and say anything you want, that’s your right, however, it is also the right of others to disagree with, get annoyed by, laugh at or otherwise step all over your opinion. Most of us are fans of Kelly Clarkson(why that would be surprising on a blog about American Idol is beyond me). I’m pretty sure that you are more aware of that than you were aware that Gangnam Style is not a song about gangs.

All I’m saying is that when you state something with which most of the blog denizens(and you are one despite your protests)disagree, you must be aware that people will get snarky with you. Plenty of people got snarky with me(ostensibly a member of the “social club”) when I did not agree with them on the talent of Hollie whatsherface from last season. Just saying!

So, X-Factor live on Halloween? Full of tricks but maybe a treat somewhere.

With 16 in consideration right now, this is my “take” on naming the bottom half -bottom 8 of the competition.

Vino Alan – the most powerful, soulful singer of all, but mainsteam audience will not likely buy-in. His real competition is David Correy, for survival into early rounds.

Beatrice Miller – If I had a chance, (and a bigger bank account, but maybe I’d find some investors) I’d sign this girl right now. She’s got great potential, But with Diamond White, Carly Rose Soneclar, The Lylas, Jennel Garcia and Cece Frey vying for that voting pool for younger female artists, she’s got a tough road to top 8.

Tate Stevens – great old-style Country voice, but missing the “star appeal” factor, and won’t be a “tween” pick, so won’t get much help there.

David Correy – good vocals, appears to have located his birth mother for a great side-story – if the show uses it — but has to survive Vino and then cooler, younger, faster competition for a run into the higher rounds.

Sister C – Better than Lakoda Rayne, but over their heads in this newer competition.

LYRIC 145 – This is a hot rap group and hard to predict if they will find enough support on this type of show to make top 8 — my guess is that they won’t. But they will get a lot of attention and probably the most polarizing act on the show.

Paige Thomas – I like her voice and she has some good qualities as a performer. I think the hair syles of a partially bald side, detracts for most people who watch, and she will likely be chasing Rihanna, Mariah, Whitney, Alicia, etc. – which is getting old on these shows, and fall short of top 8.

Jason Brock – fun to watch him perform and not too bad as a singer – but, cannon fodder in this competition.

So those are my “bottom half/bottom8″ – — 4 of these should be gone as the top 12 is named. Just hope little Beatrice gets into the top 12, and I think she will.

Now I just wonder if they will pull a trick for drama, and pull a 17th back in. If they did, it might be Julian Jensen. There would be lots of tears of emotion to film if they did. Or, Simon may want the spotlight and call his boy-band back.

Seth: You entertain me. No matter what else we discuss, even if every post is about it, ex: “Walking Dead”, how wonderful Kelly C is, et al, you stay right on point with the two current shows. It’s pretty funny how focused you can stay – I figure you don’t read much of the other posts. Kinda endearing I think!

Speaking of “WD” – Deirdre & Mercedes, have you guys watched it yet? OMG – LOTS of stuff happened! Funny, though, I found my thoughts wondering what Rick and the gang were doing over at the prison. And if you guys have seen it, please explain to me WTF went on at the military encampment – WHY was that done?????

Mercedes: Hows Hershel doing – getting around on her poor little leg ok?

I’m off to Highlands tomorrow is the snow has gone away. First time in many years I won’t be there for Halloween, but timing (middle of week) just didn’t work out this time around. There is a lovely, almost-full moon for tonight.

Well, you’d think with only 70-something people in their group – looks like many of them women, and I imagine at least 10 patrolling the borders at all times, they’d have welcomed the extra manpower, especially trained military people.

And what do you suppose he’s doing with all those heads in oxygenated water? Too weird to contemplate. I do see what Mercedes was referring to in the “WD” blog about the tea – it was a bit exaggerated.

Deirdre

October 31st, 2012

My guess is that he doesn’t want people who could take away his control. Hitler convinced 1000’s of Germans that it was ok to kill Jews. I don’t think it is a stretch to believe someone who is keeping people safe(to an extent)will be followed and obeyed.

I get the impression that the scientist guy doesn’t know what the governor did to the military guys so I’m not so sure that the tea is a factor. However, despite the fact that the show is claiming innocence on the tea, it’s hard to imagine that they would spend so much time on it without a reason.

I looked at the betting lines on X-Factor and they have Carly Rose Sonenclar as the favorite followed by Diamond White and Jennel Garcia.

The top 2 from each catagory are.

Young teens: 1)Carly Rose Sonenclar and 2) Diamond White. Arin Ray has the worst odds from this group to win.
Young Adults: 1) Jennel Garcia 2) Willie Jones. Paige Thomas has the worst odds to win
Overs: 1) Vino Alan 2)Tate Stevens Jason Brock has the worst odds to win
Groups: 1) LYLAS 2) Lyric 145. Sister C has the worst odds to win

Over all Carly Rose is the favorite and Jason Brock has the longest odds to win.

I don’t gamble but I would pick Jennel Garcia to win it all!

JT: You doubted me about Portia’s hair, but as you saw, she looks lovely with that short cut. Same for Cameron Diaz – she always wore that thin, stringy long hair, now has a sassy short bob, and looks much younger and better. I love long hair – wore mine below waist for 30 years, but great short hair can look sexy and pretty too. A pretty girl is a pretty girl – Kellie Pickler even looks cute bald – who woulda thunk it?

I’ve never seen much in Diaz either, but she looks a lot better with this haircut. Emma Watson has a tiny, very delicate and feminine face, so looks really great with the short hair. Not many can pull hair that short off.

Sadly once you get past about 40 or so, long hair doesn’t do for you what it does when you’re younger. I miss my l o n g hair desperately, but just couldn’t wear it like that any more. Men always told me “don’t you ever cut your hair” – even strangers at gas stations, etc. Now, it’s women who say “you have the cutest hair cut – who cuts your hair?” Funny how times change.

Since Deirdre brought up Hitler… last summer, hubby and I visited Dachau, the very first concentration camp Hitler built outside Munich, already in 1933. Unlike the later extermination camps (Auschwitz, Buchenwald) Dachau was built to “house” those opposing Hitler. Priests, journalists, communists, socialists, even a couple of royals. Early STASI think – and it must have been planned long before Hitler came to power.

I’ve always been of the opinion that people are entitled to say what they think no matter how enlightening or obnoxious those thoughts may be. And I completely agree that Dum-Bass clearly seems to post only for the purpose of getting a rise out of people. I also admit that it never occurred to me that he/she was MyPatootie although, now that it’s been said, it makes perfect sense.

I’m always torn in situations like this and those of you who have inhabited this blog for a long time will remember that I have formally requested that Rodney block someone twice. The first time was someone who was so intolerably rude to Nana and Harriett that the decision was easy to make. The second was to ban a long time poster when his posts reached a point of “him or us” status.

I may not like or agree with some of the things said on this blog but I have always believed that remaining tolerant to the intolerant keeps me from being a hypocrite. Diversity is not just about color or religion or personal preferences but about the human traits that make us who we are. Admittedly, sometimes I have to grit may teeth and sometimes I lose my temper but mostly, I learn, and to me, that’s important.

Seth, your description of the XF is spot on. How high do you have Cece ranked? I know she can sing, but if she doesn’t overcome the attitude perception, I don’t see her lasting forever. My faves are probably Beatrice and Jennel. I enjoyed Emblem3’s first audition, but lately I haven’t been impressed. I’m looking forward to the show and how our new hosts do… I wish they would bring back Jillian Jensen, but I don’t think they’ll pull the same “twist” two seasons in a row.

As for TWD, I imagine people wouldn’t ask too many questions when they finally found relative safety and a sense of community. There has to be something about the tea, perhaps that is how the control the townspeople and make sure there isn’t some sort of uprising against the Governor. The heads in the tanks was beyond creepy. Btw, not only did he kill the unit (for their weapons and vehicles, I assumed), but also, one of the tank heads was the rescued pilot. I’m looking forward to seeing the fireworks when Rick’s groups and the Governor’s have their run-ins.

@Sam A – yes, I don’t watch much on TV except the music related shows and certain sports. I love music, write songs and work with a studio on projects and work with younger singers in the area who want to express themselves through song.

Music can be a great expression of energy, or bring calm and relaxation. Some songs express what we go through in the excitement and dedication of young love, in the secret heartaches and passages we go through, bring fun and good humor, or help us with the tears in our losses.

I read a story once about back in WW2 and the rocket bombing of London – that the people and children would gather in the basements of biuldings – bring out the music books and sing until the bombing subsided.

Some songs, poems and passages — stay with us for life, and have meaning that comes back to us through the years.

Where there is love, there is no darkness
where there is love, all hearts are young -
my love is written, in the music,
waiting, yearning, to be sung.

As for blogs and so called trolls. This group (Voice-Factor-Idol) are more civil than many of the others that Rodney covers and others here on the AJC. I’m a moderator on a paranormal forum and we get some real doozies. So this blog is nothing compared to that.

As for Kelly, she’s been through a lot in her personal life and it did cause issues with her weight. My guess is she suffered from depression. However she still is beautiful and it seems like she has a twinkle back in her eyes. Personally I try not to judge anyone I don’t know, honestly it’s not worth my time. Hey Soul Sister was not a good choice for Diamond White and I agree Harriett it did not show off her voice. He’s sung Whitney before so maybe they wanted to show a different side. She did a good job with what she was working with and I think she will be kept. She is a future star maybe super star.

Lyric145? Not sure how they’re going to compete when themes kick in IF they make it. I guess they’ll be like Astro and write their own lyrics. Costumes were what I’d expect from Simon…over the top!

At first, all I could see was Khloe Kardasian’s nipple…it was like it was poking me in the eye. Then someone finally got her to throw her hair over it. The sound is awful. The first few songs I could hear the backup singers better than the contestants.

I’ve missed a few performances do to trick or treaters. Didn’t see CeCe at all.

Deirdre

There’s 2 more acts, they’re running out of time and Khloe is asking the judges questions that they do not want to answer. I bet she won’t do that next week after Simon gives her a piece of his mind.

Believe me, I don’t care if she puts Simon on the spot but she did it to Demi, too. Plus, it’s hers and Mario’s job to manage the time. Robohost was horrible at it last year because he would tell the judges to shut up BUT, Khloe shouldn’t be asking questions when the time is going to go over.

Although, now that I look at the Comcast time stamp, the show intended to go over.

Mostly bad song choices, circus over-the-top staging lights and dancers on several acts. The Judge/Mentors made some really stupid song & production choices for some of their acts, agree with Harriett.

I don’t always agree with Simon, but he had the best observations of the night, except maybe for his own groups – and he made a bad song choice for his nameless numbered girl group.

Cece Frey actually has a great voice, but they put her into the worst run-around song possible. Beatrice Miller did well even though the song was not her style, same for Carly Rose.

Lyric 145 even looked like they were dressed in patchwork circus clown attire, but maybe that’s hip-hop show biz.

Worst song for Vino – he’s probably toast unless he gets a soul song in the sing-offs tomorrow. David Correy sings well, but ran around like a chicken flapping it’s wings, trying to get the crowd worked-up. They put Diamond White in pre-teen Disney clownish garb and Willie Jones in sharkskin pants with pop dancers in a country song.

Jason Brock – did you hear what he said …

There should be an award for the most bizarre show that pushes artists into a false character. Reminds me of what Idol Judges and producers did in convincing Pia that she should run all over the place in a Gwen Stefani dress. The Voice coaches have also done their share of picking lousy songs for their battlerounds.

8 are safe, 8 do a sing-off tomorrow night. 4 will win , 4 will be given a small check and a box lunch for the ride home.

First act to get my interest: Sister C. It’s not because I like Country (I don’t) and it’s not because they are attractive (I’ve seen better) but because it is the first act where the focus is on them singing. It’s not a big production with dancers and spike hair.

So far the judging is ok, but it’s annoying over the crowd noise. At least they aren’t at each other yet. Maybe that will come when the viewers get to vote.

Morning!

XF is one big three-ring circus!

In the first ring is Khloe’s nipple prominently on display through her blouse(btw, other than that, I thought she looked great) Along side Khloe is the only person on the whole show who knows what he’s doing. Mario Lopez tried…really TRIED…to keep the show humming along.

In ring 2 are the judges led by Simon Cowell who tried…really TRIED….to make this show work. Demi Lovato put in a good deal of effort, too. Britney Spears gave Stephen Tyler a run for his money in the “say nothing worth listening to” dept. and LA Reid…well what can one say about this man? Awful. Rude. Competitive in a nasty way. Mean to the singers in order to get back at Simon. And what he did to Jason Brock ought to get him fired today!

And in ring 3, with dazzling lights and sound that almost made them disappear completely, are the contestants. I’m not sure if any of them haver talent. I couldn’t hear about have of them and the lights prevented me from actual seeing about a quarter of them and then the costumes made it impossible to recognize the rest of them.

What a waste of an evening. Good thing I had some trick or treaters to keep me amused!

Deirdre

“I couldn’t hear about half of them” That’s what I wanted to say.

Deirdre

As far as talent is concerned…from what I heard last night, I wouldn’t sign any of them with the possible exception of that last group of egotistical boys who have the potential of making tween girls everywhere swoon which would make a lot of money for someone.

Sorry, I thought Janell was very weak, Paige disappeared behind the costume and lights and sound(poor girl got the trifecta of over-production)but her voice is also weak. The younguns are too young! And it shows! Their voices are not mature enough yet and they shouldn’t be there. Do they have potential, yes! Are they ready for primetime? No!

The country guy has a very nice voice but his range is not good.

I didn’t like any of the groups that I saw.

I missed CeCe’s performance along with a bunch of others since I was busier than usual giving out candy to terrific kids, all of whom were smiling and polite, saying thank you and wishing me a Happy Halloween. We raise them right in my little town! :-)

Nasty squabbles between LA and Simon is what drags this show down.
The Make-Over deal is STUPY. The Garcia girl looked perfectly fine in her own hair;dying it black and matching those fringy bangs with fringy vest and pants was a sartorial. Back ground noise so loud the poor girls voice all but disappeared.

Most of the contestants’ voices couln’t be heard or they were so distorted by acoustics/machines that they lost the personalities we got to like during the preamble.

Diamond White wasn’t herself, Beatrice clearly HATED her song, and Jason Brock…. good heavens, now I know what music torture porn is like! The Sinclair girl and Cece, my two favorites, had also had their souls removed. I don’t want a Stepford Cece, I want that ambitious “all about eve” kid to make me believe she’s the best.

I do like the robust Kloe (sp?) girl for calling judges on their remarks. Lame excuse from Lovato not to name the singer she liked; Lovato obviously didn’t rremember the girl’s name.

The kids at my door were like yours, D. Makes me happy to know there are some like that.

Good morning!

All in all it sounds like most of us agree on the XF as overdone and with terrible song choices. I was really disappointed in the way LA handled Jason, too. I guess he just couldn’t help himself. I fault Jason, too, for agreeing to play the buffoon.

Deirdre

The 4 who will probably go home tonight IMO are:
1) Beatrice Miller-Both Diamond White and Carly Rose are more mature emotionally and vocally. “She looked like a deer in the headlights last night!”
2) CeCe Frey- The Lady GaGa makeover can’t undo the b!+(#* character the show created! She was also bad last night. Not sure if she will have the sing off against Paige or Willie. only Jennel Garcia was good from this group.
3) Lyric145 or SisterC- My guess is Lyric145 only because they looked more like graffiti artists than recording artist. My guess is Simon will keep Sister C over them in a sing-off.
4) Jason Brock-His Liberace meets (fat) Elvis look along with that horrible choice of song will never be forgotten. I think he loses in a sing-off with David Correy. Only Tate Stevens was good from the overs group.

Mercedes S.

If CeCe can’t undo “the female-dog character the show created”, why should Tate Stevens get a free pass? He was not as openly unpleasant as CeCe, but that was a dirty trick he pulled on Willy Jones back in the sing-off days.

I finally posted my recap of X Factor last night. Not a lot of really great performances, a few good ones and a couple of disasters. Demi was mildly annoying going after Simon but otherwise, a good judge. Britney was bland. Khloe didn’t embarrass herself. Mario is a pro, period, and could have done it all by hiimself, as host.

Harriett
