Less than two months after a wrong-way driver badly injured Kelly Stevens in a head-on collision on 400, the B98.5 radio host got married in his backyard to Katie Buser.

The near-death experience made him realize that life is short so he asked his girlfriend Buser for her hand in marriage last month for a wedding that happened over the weekend. The pair had been dating for a year.

The car accident badly messed up his left elbow and left knee, leaving him in a wheelchair for now. But he said his knee is improving and he was able to walk 20 feet with the help of walker during the wedding and stay upright during the vows.

“It hurt like a son-of-a-gun,” he said in an interview Sunday, his first full day as a married man. “For love, we’ll work through the pain.”

And he noted, it ended in time for the Georgia-Florida football game. Since Georgia won, “it was like an added wedding gift!”

Among those who attended his wedding included his co-host Vikki Locke and producer Jessica Forkel, plus WSB cohorts Mark Arum and Veronica Waters.

He also plans to re-join the morning show on Tuesday, though he’ll be doing his work from his home in Roswell.

He expects he’ll be well enough to go back to the studios in about a month.

Channel 2 Action News has a video about the wedding.

If you want details of the accident, I wrote about it here.

Stevens said he still gets pretty intense flashbacks from the accident. “I was conscious the whole time,” he said. “I remember the sound of the crash, the powder coming out of the air bag. I remember seeing the hood of the car crunch in, the sound of the impact, the headlights.” He can’t drive yet but his wife has driven him down 400 past the accident site and he’s been okay.

He learned later that there are black boxes in the vehicle that provide information about how quickly he was going when it hit. The woman who was driving north on the south-bound 400 lane was driving 75 miles of an hour. He was going 65 miles an hour.

He said his left knee is improving but he still spends most of his time in a wheelchair. He hopes to be on a cane in a few weeks. His left elbow is recovering slower, he said, and it’s even more painful. “I won’t ever get 100 percent function back,” he said.

Steven’s favorite moment during the wedding: Katie’s two young sons DJ and Caleb walking down the aisle. DJ, the bashful older seven-year-old son tried to walk in the bushes so nobody could see him.

In other local radio marriage news, Star 94 afternoon host Chase Daniels got married the same day to Deborah Fishkind at the Vinings Club in Atlanta. He is off to the Bahamas this morning.

Wow….did anyone show up to Star 94 this morning? Cindy’s husband posted on Facebook that she’s at the hospital. Her due date was yesterday.

Thank you Mrs. Stevens for wearing an off-white dress. As the mother of 2 boys it would have been inappropriate to have worn white.

Professor, it may have been off-white, but I still wouldn’t say it was “appropriate.”

Nice set of warheads there. If Kelly’s knee ever gives out, he’s got a nice place to land.

I would say it was very “appropriate”. Just my opinion, and yes I am a “testosterone-laden” male.

lol I’m 99.9% sure that “KS” is Kelly Stevens. If so, let me tell you KS I didn’t start the convo about your wife’s dress, someone else did. I piggybacked on it. I think anyone who looks at that pic (nice pic in that you look happy btw) sees the same thing. It just doesn’t scream “classy” but it’s not my wedding. All that matters is that you are happy. I have no idea who you are because I don’t listen to your station but I wish you a speedy recovery and happiness in your new marriage. Moving on…

(Don’t sweat the small stuff “KS.” You just came out of a near-death accident for goodness sake, you just got married! What some anonymous commenter states on a blog should be the least of your concerns)!

I can promise you KS was not Kelly Stevens. He probably could care less about your thoughts.

People, this man could have died from a car accident without getting the chance to be with the person he loves. He got another chance at life and decided to take the plunge. Congratulations and good luck.

RE: “He probably could care less about your thoughts.” – KS @ 11:31 am

So, KS, are you telling us that Kelly Stevens actually DOES care and has room to care less than he actually does so passionately at the moment, or are you not very articulate or skilled in basic English & grammar?

Congratulations Kelly and Katy! May you both have many years of happiness. Thank God for second chances and more so that we can really appreciate what is important in life. Don’t believe me…just ask those on the eastern coast.
