‘Idol’ bits: Jessica Sanchez gets role on ‘Glee’; Carrie Underwood No. 1 again with ‘Blown Away’

Season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez is getting into the acting game with a role on Fox’s “Glee.”

She’s the first “Idol” alum that I know of to get a part on that show.

TVLine says she may be a love interest for Finn in what is being dubbed a “recurring role,” which means it could go on multiple episodes.

Mediabase 24/7 chart update

Top 40:

Maroon 5’s ‘One More Night” is no. 1. Nicki Minaj’s “Pound the Alarm” falls to 22. Phillip Phillips’ “Home” edges up to 24.

Hot AC:

Maroon 5 is No. 1 here, too. Phillips is at No. 5.

Country:

Carrie Underwood extends her  incredible seven-year streak of top 2 hits on the country charts to 16 in a row, going back to “Jesus, Take the Wheel” in 2005. Her latest single “Blown Away” is now No. 1 on Mediabase 24/7 and Billboard. Casey James’ “Crying on a Suitcase” remains at No. 24. Lauren Alaina garners her third top 40 hit with “18 Inches” peaking in at No. 39.

Christian AC

Jason Castro’s ‘Only a Mountain” is holding at No. 21.

***
Mike Darnell, long time reality guru on Fox TV, told Hollywood Reporter that he wasn’t perturbed by the Nicki-Mariah feud, that it created “buzz” for the show, even if, in my mind, it’s not the type of buzz that will necessarily draw people to the show but even turn some folks off.

***
I’ve only watched maybe 2.5 episodes of “The Voice” so far this year, but it’s doing very well in the ratings, killing “Dancing With the Stars” among younger viewers, even if DWTS draws more overall fans. Last night, it pulled a 4.6 18-49 rating vs. 2.1 for the DWTS results show. “The Voice” drew 12 million viewers, while DWTS drew about 13 million. It’s also soundly beating “The X Factor,” which I’m actually watching in full because I like it better.
***
Paula Abdul enjoyed her stint on DWTS as a guest judge this week, telling US magazine: “I hope you could see how much fun I was having. It felt like home and was very natural.”

***
Scotty McCreery’s Christmas album is out now. Scotty is splitting his time touring and going to college. Impressive!

Kelly Clarkson’s greatest hits album comes out next month. She’s the first “Idol” alum to have a greatest hits album! This cover looks kind of lame, though:

Congratulations to both, but I’m not going to watch Glee just to see Jessica. Well maybe just her singing parts, but that’s asking quite a bit.

I’m only a sometimes Glee watcher, but might watch for Jessica! Good for her. :-)

From the last thread – D, I do plan to watch X Factor, but not until the live shows. And then just the actual singing and comments – no host mess, so couldn’t care less about Chloe/Kloe. (I refuse to misspell it like she does. If she insists on spelling it with a K, it doesn’t need an H.) ;-)

And Mercedes – ewww, you mean that awful witch Courtney, and Ben? Well, yeah, it was just a matter of time after he saw her true colors towards the girls. And I saw that Emily and Jeff are dine also. Again no surprise. She should’ve picked Arie anyway.

JT, I’ll post her singing parts on here so you won’t have to suffer through the show.

That’s a gorgeous picture of Kelly!

I didn’t like the cheesy design around it, which is more apt for a 1977 Kenny Rogers album.

It’s supposed to look like a photo album, I think. Her greatest hits as a photo of her singing career, I guess.

Thanks Deirdre.

Rodney nailed that one, 1977 Kenny Rogers album! Not that I had one… ok so I did. Nice picture, but she doesn’t need the airbrushing.

Kudos to Carrie! And I’ll probably get Kelly’s hits CD for Heather. (Agree with RoHo -they could have come up with a much better cover! But maybe they expect more sales in downloads so they weren’t too concerned with the art direction.)

Jessica on Glee? Meh.

Saw part of X-Factor tonight – was glad to see Diamond White, Carly Rose Sonclar and Beatrice Miller going to live shows. Arin Ray will likely be popular, but the 3 girls are all better, more versatile singers — which doesn’t mean any of them will outlast him.

It was a lock that Tate Stevens would get through, and he does have a good voice – but can’t see any of the over 25’s making the top 4. Tara Simon is heading back to her her music studio, to become the next Carrie, Kelly or Christina.

With both of the heavily tattoo’d dudes – Vino Allen & David Correy heading to the live shows, that will be a handicapping subject between the two – to see which one gets the farthest. Both are very good vocalists, but may be a hard-sell against the competition.

The Justin Bieber and Nick Jonas cameo appearances as mentors to the Judges – was an appeal to get younger viewers, but haven’t heard if it really worked. The Beeb involved with the over-25’s was awkward, to say the least

Haven’t watched last night’s X-Factor so thanks for the update, Seth T.

Not so sure about none of the over-25’s making the top 4. How old were Melanie Amaro and Josh (last name escapes me) last year? Thought they were both over 25.

We’ll have to see how the younger contestants react to the criticism in the live shows and the voting results. I think past experience shows us that Simon will be harder on them and we know L.A. doesn’t honestly critique anyone not on his team!

After last night’s rain delay fiasco I don’t think there is any doubt that steam is exiting Simon’s ears. We saw part of XF’s show last night then it was mysteriously interrupt by a rerun of a sitcom. So here’s the official press release on airing last night’s show in its entirety next Tuesday:

Due to tonight’s rain delay of Game #3 of the National League Championship Series, the highly anticipated conclusion of the “Judges’ Homes” round of THE X FACTOR will air in its entirety on Tuesday, Oct. 23 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The competition kicks into high gear on Tuesday, when the judges reveal which four acts in each of the four categories – Teens, Young Adults, Groups and Over 25s – continue and which two acts are eliminated.

Tonight on the West Coast (8:00-10:00 PM PT), an encore broadcast of last Wednesday night’s THE X FACTOR will air. The remainder of THE X FACTOR schedule remains intact, with the first live episodes airing Thursday, Nov. 1 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) and Sunday, Nov. 4 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live-PT tape-delayed).

My bet is that Simon hates baseball. His ratings are flat already and the World Series is NOT helping!

Good morn, and good to see ya back Sis Jen! For you, K&CF and Pitchy (sorry if I’m forgetting anyone), remember the Halloween episode of “PLL” is on next week, and I’ve read an article that says it’s really good this year.

I love Halloween – my favorite holiday of all!

Will definitely buy Kelly’s Greatest Hits, even though I like most of the songs on each of her albums. And I like the pic too. Cover doesn’t bother me at all.

Good morning!
Yep, Fox was a mess last night. I got hooked on another program while I was waiting and had to record it. Once XF went to break and didn’t come back, I went back to the one I was watching first. It was a documentary about the life of Steve McNair. I really enjoyed it and was reminded what a special player he was. Actually, it was much more interesting than anything that took place on XF last night.

DanJ

@Highlander, Melanie Amaro was 18 and Josh Krajcik was 30 years old when they were on X-Factor. Fox really screwed the whole XF show up and Simon should be angry. They shouldn’t have tried to show it during a rain delay mixing it in with other shows.

Personally I like the young teens although Beatrice Miller and Diamond White seem to have the maturity of their age(13) and may not be able to handle the pressure. Carly Rose is mature way beyond her 13 years. If they all have to lose one like last year look for Beatrice Miller to get the boot.

Overs 25. No surprise. If LA has to cut one my guess is that it would be Tate. LA is not big on country. The only one I see that could make it to the top five is Jason Brock.Vino is the dark horse.

I still think Jennel Garcia will win it all. I think she and Carly Rose will be the final 2. They are spoilers out there onwho made it and who didn’t. Only one mildly surprise.

I would love to be in the board meeting at Fox this morning just to hear the excuses. The problem is regardless to the mess last night X-Factor will have no momentum starting live shows which is a shame given that the show has a lot of talent. It would not surprise me to see the girl group LYLAS that Simon put together making the final. The name is bad but WOW the girls can sing. Camilla Cabello gave me chills when she sang her part in the song Impossible. Here is the link

Morning!

Watched beginning of new American Horror Story season…and I was not impressed. It was dark, dark, dark – think I watched Adam Levine get his arm chopped off, but not sure – but more of a splatter movie than last year’s fascinating ghost story which grabbed me right away. Jessica Lange excellent, and I liked the guy probed by aliens, and his new gf Grace…but the rest of the inmates/torturers – no.

I love my aliens and my zombies, but the older I get the less I can take of people torturing people. I stopped watching “Criminal Minds” a couple years ago because the tortures/deaths they showed over and over were just too sick to watch and then go to bed and try to sleep.

Torture is the one reason I can’t warm up to the new James Bond as much as I should. That scene in Casino Royale ruined it for me. Follow that up with a movie that lacked a plot other than “let’s put Daniel Craig in a suit” and the franchise seems to have lost its focus. Granted, my wife really enjoyed seeing Daniel Craig in a suit, luckily I look just like him with or without a suit.

Friend overseas has seen “Windfall” or whatever the new Bond movie is called and he liked it a lot. Said it’s way better than Craig as Bond II.

Deirdre

I personally LOVE Daniel Craig as James Bond. First time I believed the character since Sean Connery left. Connery had that street tough quality under the tuxedo and charm. Roger Moore never achieved it and neither did Brosnan. I believe Craig’s Bond is capable of enormous, unsportsmanlike violence. The torture scene in Casino Royale was a bit too much for me as well but that’s the film-maker’s doing. Craig, to me, is the perfect Bond.

DanJ

If the film makers were smart they’d bring back Connery. Not as Bond but possibly as Bond’s father. I think fans of both would embrace it. Think of the money it would make?

Didn’t say I don’t like DC as Bond – just don’t care for torture porn in movies. Craig is best Bond after Connery… the icon.

I like Daniel Craig as Bond, just don’t like the way they’ve done the movies.

“I’m going after the bad guys!”
“Why are they bad?”
“They are overthrowing a government for the US and UK”
“So the US and UK are bad?”
“Well, there is something about oil and water and ummm, hey look an expolosion!”

Deirdre

LOL!

Yep, that’s pretty much it but, while you have the now super-intelligent but still unbelievably gorgeous Bond girls to keep your attention, we have (like we did back in the days of Connery)someone to keep our attention as well. Frankly, I could look at Daniel Craig all day and never get bored. Plus, the man can act!

Deirdre

I think it is hard to do a believable super-villain these days. Look at the villains in Goldfinger and Thunderball. They were mostly entertaining caricatures rather than fully realized personalities. I don’t think you can do that today, especially after 9/11. This Bond is more real but less real all at the same time. The character of Bond is more rounded but the situations are still old school Bond-ish. Sometimes they don’t mix well.

Sean C oozed (still does) sex appeal from every pore in his body – handsome, sophisticated, rugged, manly & DEADLY – he was the absolutely perfect James Bond.

Roger Moore was a prissy boor, who couldn’t be sexy if Sean gave him lessons.

Pierce Brosnan was handsome and sophisticated, but skinny and prissyish, not very manly, and nothing deadly about him.

Daniel Craig is manly, dresses up ok, and definitely is DEADLY. If we can’t have the devilishly wickedly funny and gorgeous Sean, Daniel is probably the next best thing.

I can see why too. During the first few seasons I would walk by while it was on and say to myself “that looks entertaining”. What show is JT disiking so much?
I like Glee after some of the kids went to “college”.
And Sam-A, I’ve interviewed Pierce Brosnan several times – nothing skinny, prissy or unmanly about him… a lovely, charming gentleman with a great sense of humor. And unlike most Hollywood men,, of comfortable height (6′2″)

Deirdre

Glee can still be entertaining but it is also….what’s the word I want? Pedantic? Obvious? Socially enlightening in a bossy kinda way?

Mercedes: I think Pierce seems very funny and nice, and is undeniably handsome. But he’s pretty darn skinny (maybe in these later years he’s added a few lbs, but in a movie of his awhile back, his little legs looked like toothpicks!), and he’s if not “prissy”, at least “primpy”, ie always looks like someone has groomed him. Not even close to Sean or Daniel in the “manly” department – he more of a “sophisticated charmer or cad” type for movies.
