Loading ...Frank Ski’s latest three-year contract with V-103 expired last month.
But the top-rated R&B/hip-hop station and the veteran radio personality wasn’t able to iron out a new deal in time so he accepted a temporary contract while negotiations continue, Ski said in a brief interview last week. But he’s now living in a bit of limbo and is taking what he’s dubbed a vacation this week.
His boss Rick Caffey, per long-standing policy, declined comment.
Ski, with co-host Wanda Smith, has been part of the longest-running morning show on a single music station in Atlanta, entering the market from Baltimore in 1998. He replaced Mike Roberts & Carol Blackmon, a show which lasted 12 years.
Without a doubt, Ski has been an unqualified success. His show has generated consistently strong ratings for V-103 over the years, almost always No. 1 in key demographics and often by wide margins.
Ski, 48, has always been accessible and friendly to me but is understandably terse about this situation. He has his share of critics, many who feel he name drops too much and can act like a know it all. (When I posted a wholly unscientific poll in 2009 asking then if V-103 should sign him again, 56% said no. For kicks, I’ve posted the same poll today.)
Ski is deservedly well compensated – into the six figures, though I’m not sure exactly how much. But even a No. 1 station such as V-103 has to weigh what it feels is a viable salary vs. its revenues. And while stars are hard to find, much less nurture in Atlanta radio, V-103 has a deep roster of talent. Their other key personality is Atlanta native Ryan Cameron, who spent many years hosting mornings at rival Hot 107.9 before jumping ship in 2004 to be the afternoon guy at V-103. Given V-103’s size, Cameron was able to garner morning show money while enjoying significantly better working hours than Ski. He’s been happy where he is.
But V-103 could always slot Cameron into mornings if need be and he already regularly subs for Ski when Ski is on vacation.
In fact, Cameron’s on the morning show this week with Smith, taking over for Ski while Ski is in Napa Valley making his own wine. (Ski opened his own restaurant under his own name in Buckhead last year, too.)
Ski’s September Arbitron numbers were solid among 25 to 54 year olds, with a 10.5 rating, on par with its typical numbers and No. 1 as usual. But his younger 18-34 numbers (which are more volatile by the very nature of Arbitron’s rating system) have slipped off sharply from a 17.3 rating in January to 9.9 in September. For the first time since June, 2011, Frank & Wanda fell behind Q100’s Bert Show, coming in second.
Mark Trigg, Ski’s attorney, did not return a text, a call or an email, but I’ll update if he has any insight into the situation. It’s very likely Caffey told him not to talk to me. Trigg was pretty gabby and accessible in 2009.
So is Ski asking for more money? Probably since it’s likely he took a pay cut in 2009 when the economy was in a real dumper. He might be trying to emulate Bert Weiss, asking for syndication, though CBS Radio has a relatively modest stable of urban stations to access within its own family of stations. Ski tried syndication a few years back but it didn’t stick.

If the station abides by the wishes of the people they would not renew his deal. Most of the people who are asked about Frank Ski do not like him. I know that most of these people also do not personally know Frank but they do listen to V-103 enough for him to get on their nerves. The V-103 strong radio signal and type of music they play is what makes it number one in Atlanta, not Frank Ski.

From a pure business standpoint, V-103 must decide whether to let Ski walk, get Ryan in there in the morning, and bring in someone new (i.e. much lower compensated) for the less critical and less lucrative to the station afternoon drive time thereby reducing their overall costs OR pay Ski Weiss-type money preventing him from jumping ship to another local R&B station which would likely scoop Ski up and immediately get on the morning drive time radar with advertisers. Should be interesting to see how this plays itself out. The fact that they haven’t already reached an amicable solution shows that forces are at work….the ten or twelve of you concerned should stay tuned!

Frank Ski is horrible. Ryan Cameron in the AM is the only reason I would even think about switching to V103 in morning. And Wanda STILL is not funny. I listen to V-103 to hear the DJ Jaycee mixes at noon and Ryan in afternoon. But as long as Frank “Boojie Ghetto” Ski is on, I choose Steve Harvey.

In my personal opinion, I’m tried of Frank and Wanda both. Frank knows EVERYTHING. Wanda is LOUD, GHETTO and CLASSLESS. I stopped listening to them both many years ago. I really enjoy Ryan Cameron and I think him and Crash D are a good team (even though Crash does traffic). I feel Ryan can hold his own on whichever slot he carries. During the Ryan slot is the only time I tune in to V-103. I haven’t heard the new lady Egypt, but from some of my co-workers, they aren’t liking her either. In short, let Frank and Wanda both go. I’m sure they’re overpaid as it is. There’s always better talent. You just have to look for it. As with all jobs, everyone is replacable.

Ummm, I am not from Atlanta (I know, most people here are not) but I stopped listening to Frank AND Wanda years ago! Frank did act like a know it all and was from everywhere. (One week New York, one week Miami, one week Baltimore) And Wanda’s ignorance made me wanna go back home and shower again. I personally NEVER found Ryan Cameron funny. I happily switched to the syndicated shows 8-9 years ago (Tom Joyner or Steve Harvey) I felt like listening to V-103 was country as goober and gomer!

The show is back and forth like Romney. Spiritual vitamin in one segment and thug music the next. People don’t get it those 2 don’t mix very insulting to god. The music they play is for ghetto hood rats who won’t go anywhere in this world. Wanda is also an issue, she has very little experience in the world and when discussing world views here incompetence shows. Our young women need better roll models. The problem is a lot of people follow this crap with their kids listening.

Frank and Wanda are OK… But I will not miss them….In my personal opinion, I’m tried of Frank and Wanda both. Frank appears to know EVERYTHING and loves to name drop Wanda is LOUD, GHETTO with NO CLASS… from what I see and hear on the show… I really Like Ryan, Crash, Elle Duncan… They seem more energetic and very very funny… But, thats just a dream… it also appears Elle will be moving to TV… i can see her on ESPN or some national TV within the next 5 to 10 years…She is a smart and very pretty lady and her attitude… MAJOR PLUS…… (Love her Country song)

Ryan is what this great city is about, not only is he a devoted family man, with a genuine concern for people, he’s visible, respectful and most importanty not selfish at all. I myself stop listening to V-103 in the morning, because we get tired of hearing BSSSSSSS and Baloney from fake ballers, who’s claim to fame is one hit entitled doodoo brown, might as well be( dodobird an extinct flightless bird) DODO us a favor and bring back the spirit that once propel the residents to achieve, and excel not through a 501c3 but because the radio personality really care, and that’s what Ryan does, he’s deserving of more respect.V-103 is tasteless in the morning with Frank Ski,(Wanda brings value) no wonder the Bert show is doing well, more sauce, instead of “I’m so important me fillers”. I am a native of Atlanta and I have listened to V-103 for years. I remember when Frank first started on the V and was PLAYING HOUSE MUSIC…yes house music. Frank has grown and adapted to living in Atlanta area. However, somewhere along the way he has forgotten his roots. It appears along with growth and success in life also comes.. forgetfulness and lack of loyalty to the people/listeners whom allowed him to move forward to be a successfully business man. Yes, I am claiming the metro Atlanta Area (and God) has played a major part in his career.
If V decides to give Frank the additional compensation, weeks of vacation, increased 401k and another shot at syndicating show I wish him much success. But for me I will continue to enjoy XM Radio in the morning and The Ryan Cameron Show in the afternoon.

For years I’ve been listening to v-103 and I like Frankski. Frank & Wanda both work great together as a team, the topics, discussions, jokes, etc, as a individual and a team player he will be missed and v-103 won’t be the same in the morning time if Frankski is no longer there.

When I moved to ATL in Sep 1998 I listened to 103 in the mornings 104 in the evenings and on the weekends. Over the years the Loudness, buffoonary and ghetto mentality was just beginning to wear on my nerves. I began listening less and less and focused to the Oldies Rock and Roll stations and 104 on the weeknds mostly with Young Blood(who plays the same 15 songs every weekend as if theres only abot 15 old school r&b jams ever recorded.. When Miss Sophia joined V103 after a couple of the words sounding voices and noise along with Wanda voice and ghetto demeanor. Afraid I just stopped listening altogether. Too embarrassing to listen to.

Look they had thier run. If I owned this station I would:
1. Offer folks up to the minute news and weather updates in the morning.
2. Go to a commercial free (or limited comercial format) during non-peak (low rating)s times – with out a DJ (have the music played via tape without a live person at the helm (saves money big time).
3. During peak times (competitive time frames) over a live DJ mixing music and talk (discusing issues of the day) and add an audiance request line.
Get rid of these Radio personalities…..save money and vary your programming….

I’m partial to Kenny Burns, as he is a Morris Brown Alum and has done some great things in the city and throughout the entertainment industry. Would love to see Kenny take hold of the morning show. It wasn’t for Kenny during my freshman year at Morris Brown, 20 years ago, I would have never seen the inside of Club X-S. Go #TeamKenny

I don’t really listen to V-103. They sound like the rest of the Hip Hop Garbage out there. They play the same old music, over & over & over again!! Atlanta needs a nice Jazz Station & Oldies Station. Atlanta has 2 too many Hip Hop stations. Frank Ski & Wanda is a terrible show. Frank is too old to be doing Hip Hop & Wanda laughs all the time about NOTHING. They are boring. I would rather listen to the commercials than to listen to those two. Do like 106 & Park, which I don’t watch either, but they do have enough since to put younger people on for Hip Hop Entertainment. I like Ryan because he is a comedian, he can pull the Hip Hop stuff, but Frank Ski needs to “GO” & take “WHAT ARE YOU LAUGHING AT?” Wanda with him. Most of the young people are playing their own music in their cars which will eventually cause hearing loss before they turn 30.

Who even still listens to radio?? Satellite and Apps are way better then the mess radio plays now. I have an app on my Iphone now (Tune In) that is sweet and you can basically tune in into station around the country for those with wide variety of music taste. No having to deal with a million commercial breaks and more of a wide variety of music…radio stations are the way of the dinosaur.

I think Frank Ski is now apart of Atlanta. He does gives interesting topics and he shows things from different perspectives. However I must admit that he can be wishy washy and he jumps on bandwagons to be down with “in” crowd. But I would miss him if he left the morning show. He is kinda like a big brother to Atlantans. Its like he is familiar with everything and can keep you engage in a conversation whether he is right or wrong. I say keep him!

I realize nothings stays the same… I was born in Atl and use to listen to Mike Roberts in the morning and star 94… I don’t remember them talking so much in the morning. But the music as changed as well. I can’t get with a lot of this hip hop music which has no direction for our youth but to become a rap artist or a sports player… I think nothing really stays the same… the parents and grandmothers get younger and younger. And some how something went terribly wrong when our black generation came up and moved to Decatur and the white flight left and we wanted better for our kids to work hard to do chores… now the kids run the street don’t know anything about chores. Im sure sure known of them would even think about living in dekalb county….. they have to keep the rating up what ever it takes to appeal to the community….. its either education or tennis shoes and rap music… you pick

If you get some new talent in the mornings at V-103. I stopped listening to F & W a few years ago. Got tired of Franks “I know everything about everything” and “I know everybody” attitude. Got tired of Wanda’s cackle and her ignorant comments. I was disappointed in alot of things she said. Sad for her that she thinks its cute. Frank can go Wanda can go. Kenny, is he the touch yourself guy, if so then no to him as well. Ryan is cool, I think he was best with Elle. Crash is cool but not my cup of tea he needs to stick to traffic.

I stopped listening to V-103 back in 2007 and as a 46 yo I don’t know a lot of people in my demographics who find him viable. I listen to 104.1 and 107.5 for more adult conversations, music, etc…
V-103 just does not appeal to the older generation any more or ever. 107.5 has a better syndicated line up for both morning and evening….not sure why v-103 can not create this model. Here is your chance, but chances are I still wont listen to v-103 anway.
Knew FS when he was spinning in Baltimore and he has not changed since.still a name dropper and know it all–most.

In spite of their shortcomings as radio show personalities, the Frank&Wanda Morning show is a good morning show; if you measure them by the staus quo of morning shows. The absence of Frank and subsequent later release of Wanda would not improve the morning show.
The heir apparent replacement choices would be Ryan Cameron (more clown than serious) or Mr Kenny “Touch Yourself” Burns (more glitz and less substance) and both are not going to improve the morning show in any capacity.
As far as morning shows go, Frank&Wanda are decent. Morning shows are not supposed to cater to all demograhics. Each morning show has a core audience and that core audience matures with them and becomes their stable. You are not supposed to like Frank&Wanda if you are 18-30 but as soon as you turn 35, you begin to appreciate a show like Frank&Wanda.
Lets be real, most of the people that dont like Frank are women and in radio, it is better to be disliked by women than liked by women. People with egative perception ratings tend to tune in more. I mean, do you really think women like Michael Baisden? Do you really think men like Steve Harvey?
I know Frank names drop too much (a sign of some insecurity) and talks too much and thats mostly because Wanda interupts too often, but while neither are really great radio personalities, together, both can hold down the fort.
Unless V-103 is prepared to launch an entirely NEW MORNING SHOW program, it makes no sense to not resign Frank. FRANK SKI is a brand and its a very successful one in Atlanta. Does V-103 really want such a well known brand to instantly become its primary competitor?
As popular as Ryan is and as likeable as Kenny Burns thinks he is, neither could compete head to head with the FRANK SKI BRAND.

All the morning shows are classless, V103, 107.9, 104.1, and 107.5. If you really want a grown folks station listen to 91.9. The morning show is very informative and very uplifting. If you are looking for profanity and jokes you might not like WCLK, but if you want great music and serious info you should check it out.

Do you know why you eat the same ceral at age 30 as you did when you were 12? Its because people are brand loyal, even if they dont want to be. Its easy for people to shout “we want something different”, but how many of you have actually listened to other morning shows?
By comparison, the morning show scene is not a very good one at all, lol. Other radio stations are also struggling to keep up with the changing of time, but they are sticking with the same formula for success.
Create a brand, market that brand, re-brand the BRAND and when none of that works try a new BRAND.
V-103 has tried a few new things over the pass several years and none of them have worked. Ms Sophia, Chuck Smith, various producers, adding “L” to the show, etc.
FRANK&WANDA morning show is a solid program. Is it what you like, probably not, but it depends on your age. By compariso in the Atlanta market, its a solid program for the 35 and older demographics.
Before you throw out a stable of Atlanta Radio, you have to have a solid plan ready to go-live. I doubt that V-103 has an alternative, which is why they are working on a new contract.
If they didnt want Frank, they would announce that they are not going to renew his contract and would likely give him a month on the air to wrap things up.
The best thing for Frank is being “disliked” by a lot of people because unhappy people tend to tune in the most and the talk the loudest.
If this was an article about trying to keep Frank on the air, it would not break ONE page of comments. Negativity sells and its easier to market.
Frank Ski is a very successful brand in the Atlanta market and he is more connected than any radio personality. He is not leaving until he wants to leave. I am sure he has a NO-TERMINATE clause in his contract.

I haven’t really listened since Mike Roberts and Carol left. They were part of my daily routine. The new format and hosts just don’t do it for me. If going after the younger demographic is the goal I will likely never listen. Most of what the 18-34 group listens to isn’t music to me. It would be nice to go back showcasing old and new school traditional R&B, jazz, etc.. Hip hop is not what’s appealing to a great many of morning commuters. It’s certainly not how I want to start my day.

I think it’s time for a change. I’ve been a listener since way back in the 1970’s. I don’t like Frank Skis show. V-103 has always been on top, since they changed the format to urban contemporary in the late 1970’s. So it really doesn’t matter who is on the air. Frank Ski self promotion gets tired after awhile.

I think everyone is in agreement Wanda is not the right fit! She’s a good person at heart but she really does not keep up with any type of real issues and constantly interrupts everyone who talks. How in the world can you give an interview with someone saying “yeah”, “that’s so good” and going on and on over the person the listeners are trying to hear? Not sure why/if this has not been mentioned to her before but really Wanda, you’re on air everyday let us hear the indviduals you bring on. I think the real issue(s) are within the radio station itself and the music Frank HAS to play. It sucks but trust if Frank and Wanda could play something different than the Birthday Song by 2Chaniz a million times a day they would. Frank is a decent guy and has built him name from the ground up which probably can not be said by many others….Keep up the good work Frank, see you later Wanda at a comedy show!

I have long gotten over Frank and Wanda. I feel they are the reason for the great divide between the Straight and Gay community. Having this great divide between the two has really hurt our Black Community. Frank hates black gay people and has no problem letting Atlanta know it, which I don’t understand when he know so many gay people in the industry. I am so ready for him and Wanda to move on. Enough is enough. Give him his walking papers.

Whatever happened to Mike Roberts anyway? Carol Blackmon is occasionally seen during the lottery drawing. They were the team that initially drew me to V-103, but when they left I stopped listening. I have never liked Frank Ski and have simply chosen not to listen to him.

Frank is the only real radio personality with any substance that V-103 has. Most of the others are either comedians, want to be comedians, comic relief, overly seductive and sexual or just too young to cater to a mature audience.
The 6-10am demographic are people that are going to work. They are mothers taking their kids to school. Men and women stuck in traffic trying to get to their 9-5. The 18-25 demographic are probably sleep from coming in at 2am the night before, lol.
V-103 is not stupid, they know how much power and respect Frank gets in the Atlanta market and they are not going to make him their number 1 competitor.

I stopped listening to V-103 when Mike Roberts left. Wanda doing the ghetto baby names then was a hot mess so once she went full time with Frank Ski I know I would not be listening. Frank and Wanda both are horrible. I guess kids don’t care what they listen to as long as they are playing hip hop music. I’ve tried to listen to them on a couple of occasions but I just couldn’t stomach it and had to switch stations. Listen to Atlanta and get rid of Frank and Wanda

Been listening to Steve Harvey for a couple years now, and even tho I get tired of him every now and again, he’s light years ahead of “I know Puffy” Frank. Ryan is the man. When I lived in ATL many years ago, Frank Ski was beyond irritating then and for the same reasons mentioned: Know-it-all (what’s worse is he actually doesn’t know much and makes horrible arguments) and self-centered. Case in point, when Aaliyah died, Frank spent almost 10 mins talking about how EVERYONE in the WORLD called HIM first – specifically on his ‘2-way pager’ – that’s when they were new technology. He said ‘my 2-way pager’ – no kidding – about 20 times. I think he said her name twice.

I don’t listen to Frank and Wanda because of Wanda. She’s not funny, she’s loud, and just seems to have no sense of class. I’m not really a fan of Frank himself, some of it is what he says, but I think most of it stems from when I would hear him “DJ” (a term I apply VERY loosely) on Saturday nights. He was turrible.

I stopped listening to V103 in the mornings years ago. Never liked Frank (the know it all) or Wanda (just too loud). They tried Ms Sophia and Elle with no success. I am just not in their demographics for their morning show. If its about maturing with your audience Frank should have did that years ago….You can’t play all this hip hop and have an inspirational vitamin..really??? My choice would be Ryan and Crash D..love when he covers the morning show. Sometimes you just wanna laugh in the morning to get your day going. It doesn’t have to be serious all the time!!!

Being from the Baltimore area and now having listened to Frank Ski for most of my life, I can do with him. I look at his service to the community separately from his time on the radio. The bragging, the preaching, the mispronunciations that drive me absolutely crazy…I haven’t listed to Frank & Wanda in a while, because if none of the other stations have on anything I want to hear, I’l switch to an AM sports station before I subject myself to whatever Frank & Wanda have going on. What station would he move to? What morning show would he take over? Steve Harvey? Tom Joiner? Rickey Smiley? I doubt it. There are a lot of new stations popping up in Atlanta, but they aren’t his format or his audience. I’d be glad to see him go…with that same old, tired house music he keeps playing, as if there hasn’t been any new house music in Baltimore since 1998 when he took over the morning show. It’ time for something new – for him and V103.

I think it’s time for a change at V-103. Frank and Wanda are alright. Sometimes there topics are on point and the show is enjoyable but I echo some comments above regarding arrogance and class. I’ve always liked Ryan Cameron and have begun to really like Kenny Burns, so I think either of those would be good alternatives for the morning show, are well connected, and would switch it up a bit during the morning drive. Frank has a lot of other things going on and he has the name recognition, so I believe he would be fine. Also think he needs to get back to the house music scene. Personally, I switch in the mornings between Steve Harvey, Rickey Smiley, Tom Joyner, Frank Ski and Bert Weiss, or don’t turn the radio on at all. I don’t necessarily have a favorite.

I really enjoy listening to Frank Ski, and I hope that he signs a new contract. However, Wanda Smith time has come and passed. It is time for V103 to cut ties with her IMO. She was cool when she joined the station; but now, I’m just not feeling her anymore. It’s like she do not have her own identity. Everything she does “radio characteristic wise”, she got from Frank Ski. Again…NO IDENTITY! Not taking anything away from what she is doing in her career or whatever; but being a radio personality in Atlanta is something she should pass the torch on.

I honestly have no negative feelings towards Frank Ski. I do however, like the combonation of Ryan and Crash Clark in the afternoon. They are a good balance in my opinion. Maybe switch Ryan and Crash to the morning and put Wanda and Frank in the afternoon. Just a suggestion.

I stopped listening to Frank and Wanda about 3 years ago, Frank is a know it all. Earlier this year V 103 did a live promo at Six Flags in which my wife won tickets from V103. My wife was a loyal follower of the show obviously. Granted it was hot and muggy, however upon approaching Wanda at the event Wanda showed how much she cared about my wife loyalty, by absolutely acting like my wife and the kids had the black plague, and barely throwing her hand up as to say please go away! Good riddance for Wanda, and since Frank Ski knows so many people in his network, he’ll land somewhere, trust me. I’m waiting for Ryan to come back to the A.M.

I do think it is time for Frank to go, but I don’t think Ryan is the answer. If V-103 wants to grab the younger crowd they need younger hosts. A teen/college person is not going to want to listen to someone’s parents talk about hip hop. Bring in some fresh new talent and keep Ryan where he is at. He is perfect for the afternoon. It’s time for a change but recycling old talent is not the answer.

Frank Ski will be just fine when/if he moves elsewhere. After all he is getting older and v103 needs someone of the younger generation to carry the torch (Not Ryan Cameron – please..). Those older people who so dislike Frank Ski doesn not listen to the station anyway. The music basically does not appeal to them anymore. He will be much better off somewhere like 107.5/97.5 where he can play the music he is comfortable with and yet provide a good balance for that station. I just typed a long passage and I’m upset that it didn’t go through. Let’s try this again.
Frank is cool, but he is becoming a little aged. He’s great at being informative and being in the community, but it’s odd to hear someone of his stature discussing the Chris Brown/Rihanna saga. V-103 should bring in a new, younger team (late 20s, early 30s) to host the morning show. Don’t get me wrong, I listen to Frank and Wanda everyday, but it’s time. The newer host should be able to keep the show young and refreshed, but they should also be able to be informative and discuss serious issues within our community.
As for Ryan, I agree with @truthhurts, Ryan is not the answer. I need him (and Crash) at the 2p slot to help me finish my workday out.

Reading these comments lets you know that most of you are not from this city. Yes Frank and Wanda are extremely terrible, we all know that. V103 has always been an urban hip-hop station even back when Ryan was doing the 6-10 evening show before Greg Street came back in the 90s. The reason why personalities like Ryan and Rashaun are liked so much is because THEY ARE ACTUALLY FROM HERE and know the nuances of the city. Where V103 began messing up was trying to compete with 107.9 (which they didn’t have too) and confused the 30 yr old crowd. Actualy most of you sound like 35+ so it might be time to let it go and swith to 104.1 or the oldies stations. Seriously.

In terms of AM shows, V-103 must be under tremendous pressure to pick up a syndicated program. Most all of the stations in the area have succombed to AM syndication. It seems as thought it would be to the station’s advantage to try and syndicate an already home-based show (i.e. F&W). Maybe this time trying a new strategy. If not F&W, then someone else. I really don’t know how much longer V-103 can survive without syndication.

Change is good. We recently hired a new CEO and all of the Senior Executives that had been in place for 15+yrs are currently being transitioned out of the organization. Get the point. I only listen to the mixes at 12pm and 5pm (hoping it isn’t baby Yu)…get rid of him. I LOVE Kenny Burns energy…not certain he can capture the morning crowd, maybe shift Ryan and his sidekick to the morning, and Kenny Burns to the afternoon.

@ Just Curious. I am a native ATLien (born and raised), and have been listening to the station since a child. Mike and Carol in the morning had become very corny. Mike had gotten old, boring, and became out of touch with his listeners, and so did Carol but not as bad as Mike. When Frank Ski came to the station, he brought the energy back and was very in-tune with the listeners.

As a 32 year old male living in Atlanta, I believe Kenny Burns should be the morning show host. He is young enough to be aligned with the younger audience and mature enough to speak on more serious issues like politics. When he has replaced Frank on the morning show his chemistry with Wanda has been remarkable and I honestly enjoy his sense of humor and personality more than Frank.

I remember when Mike Roberts and Caro Blackmon’s morning show on V-103 was disbanded back in 1998… and Frank Ski coming along. I too have seen Carol host lottery drawings. I remember Mike moving to Macon to manage radio stations… and if I’m not mistaken, I believe he was an interim GM for Macon NBC affiliate WMGT-TV Channel 41, before that stations parent company named a permanent GM.
I don’t listen to V-103. It seems that Frank and Wanda have just about over-stayed their welcome. As for Ryan getting the morning show hosting gig… that would be anybody’s guess.
With changes that we’re seeing at other stations… it would seem that Atlanta radio is quickly becoming a shell of its former self.

yeah it’s about that time for a change in the am but dont blame it all on Frank. he wouldn’t sound so totally outdated if all of the music that he has to play in between the topics he talks about is so YOUNG in scope. it’s hard to take him or his topics serious if all he’s playing is “diveinandpopthatbootyinthetrap” type songs during his air shift. there is so much music out there that adults who have grown up with v103 all their lives want to hear but can’t due to extremely micromanaged and limited music programming by the PD Reggie Rouse (who isn’t from here i might add), so they turn elsewhere, such as WCLK, 102.5, or Magic 107.5/97.5. let’s not also forget the use of Pandora, or satellite radio.

and while we’re talking about change, now that we’ve all gotten the chance to listen to her for a full 6 months at 10am what’s the real deal opinion about Egypt at 10am-2pm? i’m of the opinion that she’s a little too chatty, plus when she asks for feedback on things she doesn’t really stick to the topics long enough for them to really resonate with listeners. it’s almost as if she’s trying to talk a little bit too much. she’s really easy on the eyes, but you never really get to see her out in the community anywhere except for TV or movie premieres. she minimally shouts out her DJ at noon which is a shame because Jay C has pretty much been the only consistent great feature during that timeslot for the last 5 years now even with the multitude of different personalities rotating thru. get it together Rick & Reggie!

Frank can go…..he seems to be full of himself, somewhat of a classist, meaning he’s discriminting against his very listeners, assuming everyone is as well oFf as he is. He never gives an unbiased interview with his celebrity “friends”, and name drops WAAAYYYY too much. Heaven forbid he say anything bad about one of those celeberity “friends”, even if it’s a rumor. Wanda might work out better with Ryan, Crash D, or even Kenny Burns. Change the whole show format, tired of hearing the same songs every hour, in rotation. There is so much more music out there that people are listening to. Break out of the mold. Tat’s part of the reason people don’t isten to V-103 anymore, despite what the polls are saying. I have to say that I agree I stopped listening to V103 a long time ago because I think Frank is very arrogant and he name drops a lot. He does do good things in the community but I think he does this for show and not from the heart. Wanda has no talent at all she is ghetto and very loud. Me personal I have always felt Ryan Cameron is the man. He real say what is on his mind and he does things in the community that we don’t even know about. I respect him and love to hear him on the radio. I listen to XM radio in the morning I can’t entertain V103 in the morning its just not real.

I remember when Frank Ski first came on the airwaves here in Atlanta. With me being from New York, I was beyond delighted. He rocked like we did back home for many years. Fast forward to 2012. I rarely even dial into the show. They mean well, and love to help those less fortunate in Atlanta, however, they’ve become quie annoying.

PLEASE let this dude go V-103. Let Ryan or someone else host the morning show. I’ve stop listening to V-103 all together.

I personally think that Frank Ski has outgrown V103. He needs to move on and focus on other things and his brand. When I do listen I feel as if Frank has to dumb himself down to be on the show with Wanda … Lets face it… We all can tell that Wanda doesn’t prepare for serious interviews and topics on the show. With that said I feel that Frank needs more of an adult audience… Not these young late teens and early – mid 20’s! As far as people saying bring back miss Sophia… She has her own entertainment show on fmdigitallive.com (Joyce littel, formerly of v103’s quiet storms station) I also feel like Frank had something to do with Miss Sophia not coming back. Ryan is ehhh … He’s not that funny to me and is be over him in the morning just like I’m over him and the white dude crash in the afternoon. Atlanta radio sucks big time compared to other cities … Cities that are smaller. There’s no reason why we can’t have the best on air talent at all times of the day. All Atlanta radio focuses on are playing the same 3-4 songs all day long!

I used to love the show when WANDA SMITH was hosting and saying more right before it turned to frank ski and wanda i think WANDA SMITH should have the morning show she is fun energetic and likes to keep her topics and comments young and interesting without boring the younger audience and still keeping the older audience attention. Frank Ski IS BORING!!!!!!! and defends Eddie Long too much geesh makes me wonder are they dating?? So to eliminate hearing frank ski in the morning id rather Laugh my A** of on the way to work and listen to Rickey Smiley but i flip from station to station because i love Wanda Smith her personality is so wonderful. But Frank Ski?? he is using this station to capitalize off the city and yes u wanna move on up in the world but he gettin easy money but not everyone wants to hear him just MY opinion. I think the morning show should be Wanda Smith and Ryan Cameron they are flippin hillarious and informative about the city.

Interestingly, I was listening to the morning show this morning with Ryan & Wanda…and I really think their chemistry is a much better. They both bring humor in the morning when it’s most needed to start the day. I couldn’t stop laughing at one of the segments.

@truthhurts Tom Joyner, at age 62, is no spring chicken but I have heard no rumblings that he plans to retire any time soon. Steve Harvey has other fish to fry (Talk show, game show, et. al) so you never know but I think he enjoys doing the radio show. Right now, Frank has nowhere else to go in Atlanta, really.

Frank & Wanda are a good combo for what Atlanta’s current demographic… although the time to make a shift is nearing. V would be pushing it if they gave him 3-5 more years. Ryan is good at what he does… and although I enjoy Ryan and Wanda much more… Frank & Wanda communicate to a good majority. People know what they’re going to get from Frank. Wanda’s infectious laugh is probably the most enjoyable part of her being there. I listen to it all… I was listening when it was Frank Ski in the Morning w/Wanda & Big Chuck Smith. I loved Ryan on Hot in the mornings too. During that time, I was in High School… and it made me love “my” city even more. Local roots. Whether he stays or goes… Frank and the team at V have been instrumental in pushing people forwards and not dragging them down (i.e. Hot’s syndicated mess).

Obviously Frank & Wanda are not a good combo for Atlanta’s current demograhic IF you are reading the comments in this blog and if you look at the poll that is saying 7 out of 10 people want Frank Ski gone. The blog is even more against Frank Ski, about 9 out of 10 have negative things to say about Frank and the show. V-103 can put almost anyone in the morning show slot and still be a metro Atlanta leader. When they let Mike Roberts and Carol go they were leading in ratings. They have the strong signal and the management to stay on top for a long time. It’s not because of Frank Ski.

I think Wanda need the boot. This woman has no class, very loud, and ghetto. I do not listen to this station. I am surprised that the radio station has not paid her to move out of state and tell no one that she worked on the radio. IJS. She is not the person for the job. KISS 104 is on point.

I enjoy Frank Ski..I think he brings substance to the show. I personally am not a huge fan of Ryan Cameron..I know he appeals to a certain segment but he’s not very funny to me and is annoying at times. Give the man a break and renew his contract.

I say keep Frank, maybe switch him and Ryan. I think Ryan does a better job in the mornings. Frank would be better in that afternoon slot appealing to more diversed listeners. Now why we all harping on Frank leaving, Wanda is a waste of payroll for the radio station. What does she do for the community thats not first endorsed by Frank?

i agree with the article it’s one thing that turned me away from listening to there morning show frank ski thinks he knows everything and name drops alot they do need some fresh,new,younger vj’s frank needs to concentrate more on being a father,husband,and his business ventures he is 48yrs old and still tring to hang with 20and30 year old people

Point blank frank is very arrogant and he do name drop but that is him. I know that Wanda is not the topic here but she has gotten just like him. She went from give me 20 dollars to one day saying 4700 was no money, that blowed me away. It’s funny how she makes people dam near beg for whatever they win on air. Money changes people and they are no different,. I must say that Frank keeps people imformed on what is going on but he makes you feel if you don’t agree with him you are totally stupid. I don’t know any of them but that’s just what a get from them. Kenny Burns seems to be a great person for the morning shoe. Ryan is too silly at times but is also good for the job as long as he leaves that funny boo boo behind that is jsut stupid, make s me turn the statiion esp on Tues

I’ve been in Atlanta since 1995 and remember the days of Mike Roberts and Carol Blackmon. I thought they were BORING and personally think that Wanda and Frankski is worst at times. I stopped listening to V-103 in the mornings about 10 years ago. Frank just knows too much and don’t listen. And Ms. Wanda doesn’t take anything serious expect the MALE STRIPPERS! And why is V-103 allowing her to advertise that all the time on the radio! I also personally think that egypt sherrod is HORRIBLE. She should stick to TV and leave radio alone. When she comes on I turn to online radio. There is just no ONE good on from 10am – 2pm (Carol Blackmon- should hang it up too). Overall V-103 make a change and many people will tune back in.

Yes Frank is a know it all but he is the only one on the morning show that brings any intelligence or class since Elle left. Wanda is soooo not funny. I will be cool with a complete overhaul of the show.

Time for the Sand Man for Frank and Wanda. I haven’t liked the show for years. Too ghetto. Music degrading. It’s blastfeming to then do mix religion at the end of the show.

Amazing. I thought I was the only one who thought Frank got on their last “1#$#!@” nerves. He’s an expert on EVERYTHING. That’s not realistic at all nor do I want to constantly hear about your 9,000 Ph.D degrees on nothing. The music is not inclusive of all ages and I get tired of hiring the hip-hop anytime I thought about trying to listen to the station. I listened more in the mornings last week when Ryan was on and it felt like a breath of fresh air. It’s time for a change. Atlanta is made up of more than 15-25 year olds (nothing with them) and we all have music taste we would like to listen to if you’re going to be “The People’s Station”. Otherwise, more Pandora!!!

I agree with Samiam… Ryan isn’t funny at all! He’s quite agrivating … And then that crash dude is agrivating also. He’s just a traffic guy sidekick who they keep around because they’re too lazy/ cheap to hire an official afternoon sidekick! I’m over Atlanta radio! Lets compare our radio personalities to other cities…… Much better personalities!
