Phillip Phillips a few weeks ago thought his record wouldn’t be ready until January, but that obviously did not work for the label. They are pushing to finish it up in time for the prime Christmas season. Target date: November 19. What impact will a rush job have on the album? As we all know, the winner’s first album is seldom all that great for that very reason.
The hope (from the label for sure) is he gets another single out of it besides “Home,” though it’ll be interesting how willing he is to bend to a more pop-oriented single versus his general predilection for moodier, bluesy material.
If all goes well, that second single will be out on time when Phillips comes to Gwinnett Arena for the Star 94 Jingle Jam Dec. 13. Tickets just went on sale this past Saturday.
The album name: “The World From the Side of the Moon.” They chose for once not to use a self-titled name.
Jennifer Hudson echoes Steven Tyler and Cee Lo Green and believes the Nicki Minja-Mariah Carey imbroglio is fake. If anything, it seems like TMZ worked with Nicki and Mariah to conjure this up because that website has been having a field day with this story for seemingly weeks.
“I think that they are going to be able to sort it out, I am confident,” the president reassured. “I’m all about bringing people together, working for the same cause, I think both outstanding artists are going to be able to make sure that they’re moving forward and not going backwards.”
Not letting the president get off too easily, Yo asked Obama the hard-hitting question about whether he has a favorite between the two. “Mariah, she’s actually done some events for us. I’ve gotten to know her and Nick (Cannon), she’s a wonderful lady. Nicki I don’t know, but I’ve got her on my iPod.”
Former Snellvillian Diana DeGarmo and her fiance Ace Young were in Atlanta for the Georgia Music Hall of Fame last night. I attended “The Walking Dead” viewing party at IronE Singleton’s house instead. Yes, I opted for the hotter show. Bo Bice, who is back living in Cumming, was there, too, and Tweeted the photo to the right.
I wrote about Caitlyn and Brittany of “The Amazing Race” a couple weeks back since they have strong Atlanta ties. SPOILER: They were eliminated last night in the third week of the show after having trouble with directions. A bad drive didn’t help matters, but no, they weren’t perpetuating stereotypes.
I don’t think any of the finalists so far on “The Voice” are from Atlanta. That relieves me of tracking that show all that religiously from here on in but I’ll keep light tabs on it.
