‘Idol’ bits: Phillip Phillips’ album release date, Diana & Ace,

phil-covermaybePhillip Phillips a few weeks ago thought his record wouldn’t be ready until January, but that obviously did not work for the label. They are pushing to finish it up in time for the prime Christmas season. Target date: November 19. What impact will a rush job have on the album? As we all know, the winner’s first album is seldom all that great for that very reason.

The hope (from the label for sure) is he gets another single out of it besides “Home,” though it’ll be interesting how willing he is to bend to a more pop-oriented single versus his general predilection for moodier, bluesy material.

If all goes well, that second single will be out on time when Phillips comes to Gwinnett Arena for the Star 94 Jingle Jam Dec. 13. Tickets just went on sale this past Saturday.

The album name: “The World From the Side of the Moon.” They chose for once not to use a self-titled name.

Jennifer Hudson echoes Steven Tyler and Cee Lo Green and believes the Nicki Minja-Mariah Carey imbroglio is fake. If anything, it seems like TMZ worked with Nicki and Mariah to conjure this up because that website has been having a field day with this story for seemingly weeks.

Some TV show called “Yo!” somehow got Pres. Barack Obama to talk about this. I know… what????

“I think that they are going to be able to sort it out, I am confident,” the president reassured. “I’m all about bringing people together, working for the same cause, I think both outstanding artists are going to be able to make sure that they’re moving forward and not going backwards.”

Not letting the president get off too easily, Yo asked Obama the hard-hitting question about whether he has a favorite between the two. “Mariah, she’s actually done some events for us. I’ve gotten to know her and Nick (Cannon), she’s a wonderful lady. Nicki I don’t know, but I’ve got her on my iPod.”

bodianaaceFormer Snellvillian Diana DeGarmo and her fiance Ace Young were in Atlanta for the Georgia Music Hall of Fame last night. I attended “The Walking Dead” viewing party at IronE Singleton’s house instead. Yes, I opted for the hotter show. Bo Bice, who is back living in Cumming, was there, too, and Tweeted the photo to the right.

I wrote about Caitlyn and Brittany of “The Amazing Race” a couple weeks back since they have strong Atlanta ties. SPOILER: They were eliminated last night in the third week of the show after having trouble with directions. A bad drive didn’t help matters, but no, they weren’t perpetuating stereotypes.

I don’t think any of the finalists so far on “The Voice” are from Atlanta. That relieves me of tracking that show all that religiously from here on in but I’ll keep light tabs on it.

Not loving Phillip Phillips album title but who he at least has a hit single to garner interest in the rest of the album. As for Bo I loved him on Idol but his releases since and I have bought them didn’t seem to have great songs. I wish he had recorded more of a southern rock album. He always reminded me of Ricky Medlock from Blackfoot!

Thanks for all the tidbits, Rodney. Super slow day on the blog. Maybe The Voice will do something interesting tonight and give us a topic.

BTW, I would have opted for The Walking Dead party as well. You can’t be 2 places at once and that party was definitely the right choice.

A little off topic but it does have some ties to AI due to the artists who end up there. I’m referring to Nashville. The new show which debuted last Wed. about “Nashville” and has some great new music and some really beautiful scenery shots had an audience of 9M viewers, which was #2 for the night. Think CSI was #1. Having lived there for several years until last year I certainly enjoyed the first show last week. They are doing 13 episodes, and then will see what happens after that. BTW, love me some Hayden Panatierre. She be sumthin’ else! BTW#2 the music is being made available for purchase distributed by Big Machine Records of Nashville. There was one song last week that stuck in my head(just parts of it) and now forgot the title. Will have to search it out. Check it out this Wed. at 10PM

Don’t think I’ll be rushing to the store for that PP cd. Watching paint dry would be more enjoyable than listening to that boy hee-hawing.

Thanks Rodney. Let’s all pitch in and buy a copy for G!

I’ll be honest, yesterday I heard “Home” come on the radio and I had to stop and try to remember which WGWG sang it. For some reason I was thinking Scotty, then I remembered that we had another season since his.

Phil/Scotty? They may both be wgwgs but they sound nothing alike. I am laughing, however, at all the Home imitators on TV right now. So many ads with sound-like-Home music currently playing. The fad will end but what a nice boost for Phil, especially since all the naysaying has begun about the next season.

JTesla, I’d pitch in to buy G a Minnie Riperton CD but not a Phillip Phillips one. I hate to see good money get tossed in the trash. lol

As for the Nicki, Mariah brouhaha I have a hard feeling it was staged. If so it could blow up in their faces even as a publicity stunt and damage their careers.

Second place finisher Jessica Sanchez has signed a deal to be a recurring character on Glee. Congrats to Jessica.

This thread didn’t show up on my computer up to about 4:45 – the last time I checked. I thought everyone else had been incinerated in a nuclear blast or eaten by walkers! What the H…… – my computer’s been funky ever since the power went off in the whole office bldg at about 9:45 am yesterday.

It may be a few days before I get to “WD” (took the new pup to Vet for a 6:15, which means saw the vet at 7:15 and didn’t get home til 8:00 pm last night – and great news – the baby has bronchitis! So now the “Pee all over the house” syndrome has escalated to “Bronc drugs making her pee every 5 mins” syndrome – happy times at the old household.

Anyway, I can understand if y’all want to discuss “WD” – if so PLEASE mark it as Spoiler, or SAM-dont’ look.

Mercedes: Did you realize last night was the season ender for “Major Crimes”? I did not! Did they say “see you next summer”? Man that’s a loooooong break! I was very pleased with the ending between the boy and the father!

I haven’t watched last night’s Revolution yet but will probably get to it today. I think the show has gotten better. The pilot for it didn’t really impress me all that much but I am getting curious about what will happen.

Revolution was pretty good last night, even though it was predictable. The plot thickens as we get more background on Captain Tom Neville’s past…….and the present (speaking of the last scene). I’ve been a fan of Giancarlo Esposito since School Daze. His character as Gus on Breaking Bad……..classic!

Sam-A, yes, I knew that about the VERY SHORT season of MC. Didn’t see it, entertaining guests, but feel free to tell me pleasing ending between boy/father (if no one else minds).

Also missed Season opener of TWD… but read Rodney’s recap…who was Herschel again?

There are only 2 things I’m really interested in re “Revolution” – the lady with the computer setup (who was she corresponding with and how does that disc make power?; and why the mother left her kids and husband to go to the brother? Hope the acting improves – I don’t care much for the girl at all.

Herschel is the older southern man who owned the farm. I haven’t read anything about it yet or seen it, so give me a warning if you post anything revealing about it.

MC Spoiler: Mercedes: they forced the dad to sign over parental rights – he did beat the boy. They were going to arrest him for child cruelty and endangerment if he didn’t sign. He left yelling about how would he explain to his fiance and that the boy’d ruined his life. Very satisfying.

I watched The Voice last night – a couple of good singers, a steal, but nothing that was really impressive. One of the problems is putting them into mandatory songs that are not in their own wheelhouse, or favors one much more than the other.

The steal is a good move for this show, as now some of the better talent can still move-on, as sometimes both singers in a battleround are better than the average talent on the show.

Seth, I loved She’s Gone and like those 2 guys as a duet way better than solo.

IMO, there was really nothing that special on The Voice last night. No problems with the picks or the steals, but just a blah night with so-so talent.

Watched only part of the Voice tonight – thought both choices I seen were wrong — Nicole Johnson was easily the better on her battleround, but was sent out the door.

The fact that she cried/broke-down after though — was a sign she’s not ready for the big-time. She just inadvertantly gave the producers something to film and use for drama. If I were going to sign someone, I wouldn’t want the risk of investing in someone who losses control under stress. But she has a Country-Pop type of voice that has much more potential than some of the others still on the show – just needs more experience.

X-Factor : I am not a fan of Rap, but Lyric DaQueen added to the guys in One4Five -is a very powerful show in that genre. The other young all-girl group is very good as well, but will be hard for them to get a real identity against the solo singers and young girls will vote for a boy or boys mostly.

Paige Thomas, who has been to Idol bootcamp the past 2 years, will likely get in the top 4 of Demi’s team and carry-on the competition with CeCe Frey (too much drama to let her go) , just hope Jennel Garcia stays-on as well.

Good morning!

I hate the battle rounds. The point has been made about the song being better for one contestant vs the other, and I agree. If they insist on a battle, why not allow each singer to select their own song and see who is best? It possibly would reveal something about the contestant as a person as well.

DanJ

The actual singing part of the battle rounds is okay but the 10 minutes of filler is boring. Last night I did have to think to myself why Idol didn’t go after a Mary J or Michael Buble instead of Nicki. Yes I know they’re banking on young viewers tuning in but both of them offered sound advice.

As for talent on The Voice? Not anywhere near the talent on X-Factor this year or the past year on Idol.

Back home after a seriously busy morning! Looks like no one has much to say today. Considering that we talked a lot about XF last season, I guess most of us stood by our determination not to watch this season…at least the preliminary stuff. I will probably watch some of it tonight since the only thing on my tv watching plate is Modern Family.
