Ellie Goulding’s ‘Lights’ stays lit on top of Atlanta radio airplay for third week

Elle Women in Music 2012

I just saw Journey last night singing “Lights” but that version has nothing to do (beyond song title) with Ellie Goulding’s dance/pop hit “Lights,” which remains the most played song on Atlanta radio for a third week.

“Lights” was spun 325 times this past week on five different stations: Star 94 (69), Power 96.1 (133), Wild 105.7/96.7 (12), Q100 (70) and B98.5 (41). That means you’re virtually guaranteed to hear the song somewhere on the dial at least once every 30 minutes.

Maroon 5’s “One More Night” (the No. 1 song in America) is not far behind with 281 spins. If B98.5 adds the song, it might leapfrog “Lights.”

The two fastest climbing songs are Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me,” which jumps into the top 10 and Fun.’s “Some Nights,” which is at 17.

A likely future hit by Bruno Mars “Locked Out of Heaven” debuted this past Tuesday and has been spun 33 times. (When I spoke with Scott Lindy, operations manager at Star 94, he raved about it.)

This is the final few days of Dave FM. It’s odd to hear the station now that it’s a jockless jukebox because it’s no longer really promoting Dave. It’s just playing music until sports talk debuts, probably Oct. 15.

Interestingly, Star 94 began adding a few Dave FM songs at night. Rock 100.5 is playing more currents while 97.1/The River is playing more deep cuts.
