More Nicki Minaj-Mariah Carey mayhem; Atlanta coach Tara Simon gets ‘X Factor’ airtime

CREDIT: Fox

CREDIT: From the video "Up Out Of My Face"

I’m sure when “Idol” signed on Nicki Minaj with Mariah Carey, there’d be fireworks.

They just didn’t think it would get gangsta, as in Nicki threatening physical violence on Mariah.

Mariah told Barbara Walters confirmed that the confrontation took place and said she has beefed up security, but Nicki denied it on Twitter.

I’m not sure I feel like getting into more details. Nicki is unfortunately perpetuating all sorts of stereotypes for folks who had a predilection to dislike her. The older viewers who have kept “Idol” afloat may be seriously turned off by all this ridiculousness.

Atlanta’s Cee Lo Green of “The Voice” thinks it’s all bogus, he told TMZ, which has had a field day with this controversy

***

I spoke with season 10 runner-up and “Georgia Peach” Lauren Alaina yesterday in her tour bus outside Wild Bill’s before her performance there, sponsored by 94.9/The Bull. I’ll post something later today.

***

“The X Factor” has one nutty Atlantan on board, Tara Simon, a music coach who has a knack for over singing and rubbing the other contestants the wrong way. I’m seeking an interview with her.  She sang “Landslide” in a face-off duet with Jennel Garcia. “I don’t know why you chose that song,” Simon says to both of them. “I don’t get it… You didn’t represent yourself.”

The Kewpie Doll Wars continue. Keeps Idol in the news but puts me off wanting to watch it. Not that I won’t watch it of course. Like Harriett, I’m with it to the (hopefully not) bitter end.

Actually, I can’t imagine Idol being much more irritating than the last two years, with ST’s fried-brain demeanor and comments, JLo’s shameful self promotion and having to put up with her semi-porn performances with her boy toy every couple weeks, and Randy’s remarks getting more and more stupy as the season went on. And JLo’s insistance in trying to push thru some very untalented contestants (what was cute face/curly hair/ dreadful falsetto kid’s name?).

However, this upcoming season will probably present a real challenge to us older, steadfast viewers.

Pitchy, good to see you back with us! It’s been mostly pretty quiet for the last few weeks, but things have suddenly started picking up! And you and Dan make a “cute blog couple”!

Sad to see on the front pg of AJC online that my most beloved house in the world, the gorgeous old Georgian mansion on P’tree in Buckhead will likely be destroyed. As a kid, I’d ride by it and dream that it was mine. Wish I had the $350,00 they say it would take to move it, I’d take it (free to anyone who can move it) in a heartbeat!

Yeah, D, the bitter end! I, too, am completely put off by the four judges concept, as well as the choice of judges. But, as my grandson reminded me–Howard Stern turned out well.

Rodney,

What is the story behind the fallout and feuding between Nicki and Mariah?

When they made that song & music video together, I got the impression those two ladies were the best of friends.

@ Harriett, I agree Howard Stern turned out well but he was the 3rd judge.Idol having four doesn’t make sense since the judges serve no other role such as mentor like they do on The Voice and X-Factor.

I think Jennel will make it to judges house Atlanta’s own Tara will be…Gone With The Wind! Sorry couldn’t resist!

Pitchy did make a wonderful blog date!

Right, Dan. I didn’t mean to make such a fuzzy point. :) I was referring to the personalities and not being pleased with the choices, but recognizing I might be underestimating someone on the panel. Another case in point is Demi Lovato. She’s one I never thought would work, but she’s actually the best judge on XF, IMO.

The only way I am going to watch it this year is if my husband wants it recorded on the DVR since he can’t work the thing. I have been turned off since they put Steven “Beautiful” Tyler and Jennifer Lopez on the panel. They were bad enough but no way am I going to watch those two “women” on there now. If I have to record it, I guess I will read while he watchs that nasty show

Most of the older viewers don’t pay attention to TMZ. For them it will depend on how it is edited, except for the few who made up their minds once her name was announced.

I agree with Harriett. Demi’s outshone all the other judges. Britney’s been a non-factor.

Morning!
My “I’ll go see Liam Neeson in anything” thinking led me to suffer through the excruciatingly bad “Taken 2″. WARNING, PEOPLE!! It’s basically a remake of the first “Taken”, but without any of the excitement and tension that made that original such a revenge classic.

This time it’s Liam and his ex who are taken, and their daughter, so worthless in the first movie, now has to save her parents by throwing grenades all over Istanbul. This doesn’t seem to concern the good people of that beautiful city, especially not the cops.

I’d heard “T 2″ was really bad, shame because I too love Liam N. Mercedes, have you seen the film with Emma Watson about the group of High School nerds (sorry, I never can remember movie names)? Looks cute, and I really like her. The movie “Butter” looks pretty dreadful to me, and what a dead bore of a subject – but on the other hand still waiting (waiting, waiting) for Garner’s husband Ben’s film!

Hi! Happy Friday! :-)

Pitchy!!! Glad to see you back. And glad your date was so much fun ;-)
I was wondering how you’ve been liking our show Private Practice so far this season. After as GREAT as it was back in the spring… I really didn’t like the first two eps at all. (though a bemused Addison babysitting the “floating” Cooper & Violet was pretty funny.)

And I’m with you 100% on hoping (not so) Darling Nikki gets shown the exit door. And soon!

Now… Who watched Grey’s???? Wow. One of their strongest episodes in a long time. Shonda Rhimes continues to amaze me. But someone please help me out… remind me of Mark’s exact injury in the crash? I didn’t understand why they called him “terminally ill”, when it was an injury, not a disease. Seems like wounds would either heal for real, or kill him with no “surge”.

Jenny, I’m loving Grey’s and PrivateP. Taye Diggs is looking scrumptious this season (lol). I liked the concept of the “surge” being introduced instead of a damn ghost coming back. However, his “peppiness” is a bit much. Not sure what’s wrong with Sheldon, but what I do wish is that they lighten up on the bitter story line of a woman not wanting babies and now finding out she’s having triplets. It’s turning me off how she’s reacting.

@JTesla, I think you’re right about Nicki turning off older Idol viewers of which I’m one. She might bring in some younger viewers but will it be a + net rating increase? I was like Harriett and thought Demi would be a bad judge and now think she is great. But while young, Demi never had an image to keep up at least the cartoon character that is Nicki. Not to mention Demi at least seems humble while Nicki screams Diva.

Pitchy, I’ll bring the wine next week!

Pitchy, funny that Charlotte’s storyline is the one I’m enjoying most! I know the mom is in her even though she thinks it’s not. Remember last season when Mason decided he’d call her “Mama” – aww, I cried.

Violet, on the other hand, has ALWAYS been way too bitter for me. I wish she’d left instead of Pete. I liked Pete with Addison.

Hey Pitchy…I think Mark had some kind of damage to his lungs…something he breathed in during the crash…..or maybe it was damage to something else.

The new interns are fun, especially since they are so much like Mer and her group when they first appeared. Arizona’s injury shocked me…thought she was dead and then there she is minus a leg.

Haven’t been watching PP.

Jenny, I have no doubt Charlotte will come around and embrace motherhood. I also feel all that negative energy she’s exhibiting will somehow affect the babies. I hope the story line progresses with her taking care of herself and not sabotaging her pregnancy. Yep, she was touched when Mason called her Mama.

I cracked up when the interns called Bailey Booty Call something???

It took several attempts but finally got hooked on The Voice. The last couple of episodes did it for me as there is some outstanding talent there this year. Think Blake’s team is outstanding and there are several artists there from GA. The X Factor is out the window and doesn’t even exist in my mind. As for Idol there’s one good thing about the Minaj-Carey feud. They have a good “referee’ sitting between them!

Happy Friday, blogsters!

First off, GO BRAVES!

Second, Grey’s is like my weekly crying session. I was sad that they killed Mark, and was hoping he’d get a chance to see Sofia one last time. I did appreciate them showing is “the surge,” but it just made losing him all the more tragic. BCB (Booty Call Bailey)

What? Mark died? Now, who was he again? Haven’t seen “Grey’s” for ages, not since they killed George. The other day, flipping channels, I came upon wedding between George’s ex, the husky woman, and another woman(for me unknown character). Both had beautiful gowns. Was Mark the husky woman’s other ex, the one that led her to the altar? Sorry to be so vague, but I’d really like to know. Was this the same Mark that was “little Grey’s” ex-boy friend?

Pitchy

Mark was Mr. McSteamy. Nice specimen of a man (lol).

Deirdre

Mark was Derrick’s best friend who had an affair with Der’s first wife…now residing on Private practice. Mark impregnated Callie(a k a “husky woman) who discovered she was a lesbian after divorcing George but enjoyed an occasional roll in the hay with men. Arizona(Callie’s wife) was head of pediatrics and she, Mark and Callie were parents to baby Sofia.

Rodney, not that it matters, since people are going to believe what they want, especially when they take stereotypes as fact, but the producers said that Mariah Carey’s people made up the story about Nicki threatening Mariah with violence. These people, not you, me, or anyone on this board, know what has been going on since filming started. They know whether or not Mariah has a problem with having another woman on the judging panel, and if Mariah has been baiting Nicki, trying to get her into this type of situation. We saw the end of the argument, but not what happened before.

I think that if there were any truth to the story that Nicki threatened Mariah the producers and Fox would be firing Nicki, not supporting her side of the story.

Both are playing into stereotypes about women, and Mariah being upset that Nicki was hired shows that she doesn’t care about American Idol, and that she is just using the position to boost her career.

Annie, I definitely agree with your last 2 paragraphs, especially the 2nd one. And, I hope your second paragraph becomes a truthful one. I sure do. That woman is extremely annoying. She’s a Lady Gaga wannabe. She’s a very pretty woman with a nice voice, if she would only sing in her natural voice and dress with some class. With all that said, she’s made her mark, fought hard for it and now has her place in hip hop.

Nicki & Mariah debacle = a Bad Girls Club spin-off. Even Seacrest says it’s good for publicity.

Demi Lovato is the saving grace for X-Factor. Britney still looks out-of-place and mostly uncomfortable. The empty-hall sing-offs were more lifeless, dark and mean-spirited than the previous shows. Someone watching for the first time would not be impressed.

Tara Simon is the type that I have to deal with sometimes, as I the people I work with on music in both the band and the studio sometimes also have vocal coaches. It becomes a touchy subject because they are sometimes “coached” to over-sing, do semi-classical styling and cutesy but needless runs, etc,. which is not conducive to the type of songs we are doing.

Some of the best singers I’ve worked with, just needed help on understanding breathing points in a song, keeping their head and upper-torso in a position that doesn’t constrict air-flow and what to do with their hands and movement in a performance. You can’t make a good singer out of a poor singing voice, with any amount of lessons. And a good singer just needs to understand their own wheelhouse, practice and choose the right material for their voice. Sometimes vocal coaches are good at that, other times they try to push the student into their own fantasy larks that they like, rather than what helps the student with their own style.

I thought the same of Lil Mama (Randy Jackson’s ABDC judge) as I think of Nicki. I never respected Lil Mama as a hip hop artist, but OMG has she been a good judge. I admit being wrong by passing judgement on someone without giving them a fair chance. With that said, IMA give Nicki a fair chance on the judges panel. Still don’t like her music or her style, but I’m going let this thing play out.

GO BRAVOS!!!!!

Seth T – what I find amazing is how Simon caters to Britney. She looks much older than her age. Demi is a sweetheart. I also laugh at Britney at times because I don’t think she’s a great singer and she too would have been booted off X Factor. Even funnier how Simon makes fun of Paula Addul’s singing prowess and seems to love Britney. Britney and Paula sounds the same to me.

Good recap of who Mark is, D. And Mercedes…yes, he was little Grey’s ex. She died in the plane crash last spring. He realized he loved her and held her as she died, talking of how they’d marry and have babies. She died smiling.

And your “unknown woman” is Arizona. Wonderful character. You should start watching again!! Arizona and Callie went thru rough times, broke up, Arizona left on a mission trip to Africa, Callie turned to Mark & got pregnant. That’s how the 3-way parenting came about.

Never have watched G.A. – but how many plane crashes have there been on that show, Sis? From the commercials for it right now, looks like one has just opened this season. Why are Dr’s at a particular hospital flying around in unsafe planes all the time?????

Deirdre

Just above, Jenny said: “And Mercedes…yes, he was little Grey’s ex. She died in the plane crash last spring”, so I thought it sounded like 2 separate crashes.
