Fox 5’s “Good Day Atlanta” is adding a fourth member to its “Good Day Atlanta” team: former Atlanta Brave Ron Gant.

He starts next month, joining Gurvir Dhindsa, Karen Graham and Buck Lanford.

[UPDATE 10/22/12: The start date for Gant is Thursday, October 25.]

Gant had been a Braves analyst the past four years for Fox Sports South.

“ He is a good communicator, with an engaging personality and will be a refreshing addition to morning news,” said Bill Schneider, general manager, in a statement.

Gant effectively replaces long-time “Good Day Atlanta” host Mark Hayes, who joined an NBC affiliate in Dallas in April.

The press release does not specifically state what Gant’s role will be on the show, which airs from 4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. A spokeswoman said he will mostly co anchor from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. with Lanford and Dhindsa but will have other roles as well possibly during the other times.

Gant has been a studio analyst for the MLB Network for “Hot Stove” and “MLB Tonight” and a commentator for the Atlanta Braves on TBS. His 16-year Major League Baseball career included stops with the Cardinals, the Phillies and six years with the Braves.

They need help on that show. I like Ron Gant but am not sure He can save them. He is soft spoken when I have seen him but maybe we will see him more excitable on GDA.

Will be interesting to see how they fit him in. Love Ron Gant the player, but not impressed with Ron Gant the commentator. Buck Lanford does a great job so not sure why they decided to make it more crowded.

That show definitely needs all the help it can get. It has been so bad since they cleaned house last year. I’ve tried to watch but it’s just awful. Good luck Ron.

Leave to channel 5 to use atheletes to boost ratings..As a kid in 70’s I remember them calling the sports segment Superstar Sports. They would rotate Lou Hudson from the Hawks,Phil Niekro from the Braves,Curt Bennet from the Flames and Alfred Jenkins from the Falcons as anchors.Awful!! But I guess people watched.Best of luck to Ron.

great move ! get him off the Braves pregame/post game shows. he is so repetitive and expounds nothing but clichés’ that it’s painful. he is not comfortable on camera….

How will this addition to the morning show help us get back the ATLANTA THRASHERS?

The cast of characters they have had hosting the show since Mark Hayes and Suchita left has made the show almost as tough to watch as The View. Buck does a good job, but when he’s not there, it’s painful to listen to three women talking over each other. Good luck, Ron.

He’s too plain Jane. Why can’t Atlanta bring in morning eye candy for us female viewers for once?

Hope Fox 5 put a clause in his contract that keeps him off motorcycles..Maybe he learned his lesson with the Braves.

Buck, “plain Jane?” Compared to whom? The Mark guy who left would be considered plain. I think most would consider Gant an attractive guy.

I would love to see Buck and Karen go back to sports – where they belong. They both do a great job with sports.

Why is Gant working broadcasting gigs? He is a retired baseball player from the big money years. He must be broke. All those white women from his playing days took the money and ran.

I’m very much a Ron Gant fan and will tune in to see what he does. Good call Fox 5. Not a blanket endorsement of the show because it’s not that good, but I will give it a look-see with Mr. Gant.

Always loved Ron Gant, I have to admit.

He had one of the best home run swings.

Didn’t love his clutch hitting in October cause it didn’t exist.

The guy had a chance to win a World Series with one swing of the bat and send the ‘92 WS to a Game 7 with another but came up empty both times.

But I still like him.

Best of luck to him.

sorry for getting on here so much after the initial story. I’ve been a FOX 5 listener for a long time. I LOVED the messiness of the morning group – the laughing, the stories, the way you felt that they actually liked each other. Now Jeff is on at night, Suchita is gone, and I didn’t realize just how much I missed Mark until I saw him this summer while on a business trip. I keep expecting to turn it on and find that Cheryl is gone now too. For that 20 minutes I watched in the morning, I got my traffic and weather and left my home more often than not in a better state of mind. So, good luck to the next new addition – hope he has better luck at finding a way to join the family and stick around.
