‘Idol’ feud? What feud?

Nicki Minaj - is she annoying Mariah Carey? CREDIT: NBC

Sheesh. All this manufactured drama between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey? Is it real? Who knows? The press seems to care to the point the players in question had to deny it.

“It’s been two days!” Carey exclaimed to MTV.com. “A feud takes a little longer than two days!”

I’m sure Carey can’t be pleased having a younger diva on the dais but how obvious would it be?

- Here’s 10 reasons why Keith Urban might be a good judge, from a CMT journalist.

- Nigel Lythgoe, in a Tweet, said Nicki Minaj was 45 minutes late the first day, upsetting not just Mariah Carey (as TMZ says) but everyone.

- Casey James will be at the North Georgia State Fair Sept. 22 in Marietta. The show is free with entry into the fair. Kellie Pickler has performed at this show before.

- North Georgia’s Lauren Alaina is joining Rodney Atkins October 4 at Wild Bill’s. Tickets are just $10.

- I haven’t been keeping up with “The Voice” but caught a bit of Tuesday’s episode. I liked Benji, who sang “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.” Adam gets him.

Thanks for the picture of Nicki Rodney… and the other information. I like the perty colors.

A feud on Idol is good for ratings come January, so I’m going to remain sceptical.

Mercedes, D, and Highlander from yesterday… exactly, exactly, exactly. A good King adaptation needs at least 8 hours of screen time. Mercedes, yes, The Shining miniseries worked well. I despised the Jack N. movie though. Too many awful script changes. And Wendy was supposed to be blonde, pretty and likable!!

Deirdre said it best… “It is hard to translate what you feel when reading the books to the screen.”

It’s because he’s literally INSIDE their heads…. (gee, can y’all tell I’m a King fan? :-) )

Nicki Minaj still looks like a cartoon character to me. Teen Teletubby? Why do I get the feeling that she will make Paula Abdul seem lucid?

Nicki’s look and persona appears outrageous. I doubt she will wear well with Idol viewers. The fact she stands out like a sore thumb makes me wonder if the chemistry will work. From the looks of the photo posted yesterday I doubt the judges will be a cohesive group. While I didn’t like the choices of Britney and Demi at first on XF I’m at least thankful that they APPPEAR normal.

Add that she was 45 minutes late? Something will hit the fan sooner or later!

As for the 45 minutes late…it must take HOURS to look that artificial!

She is there for one reason, to be eye candy… while looking literally like candy, so 45 minutes is acceptable.

I’m just wondering who will pull that big string attached to her back, and how often? I will have my finger on the “mute” button at all times while watching AI this year. They would have had it “perfect” if not for NM!

Dum-Bass, maybe that’s why they decided to put Randy back on the panel. They have no confidence that Nicki will stick with it.

Really Mariah? How many functions have you shown up late to and even waisted sometimes. You are hardly in a place to judge. As for Nikki being a judge, its a desperate move to pull in a younger audience, thats it. I haven’t watched an entire season of american idol since Jennifer Hudson. I only wacth the first few episodes during tryouts, they are hillarious. After that I’m always out, they never pick the really great singers.

Looks like it will be Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian(or however you spell it) hosting XF.

Kinda ironic that Khloe K – who stars in a show produced by Idol’s Ryan Seacrest is going to be co-hosting Simon’s X-Factor.

Rickster: 8 hours sounds about right for “The Stand” – I believe it was several parts.

Nicki’s a cute girl. Mariah’s a beautiful woman. Randy is what he is. Who know’s what this Keith character is going to bring. Seems like an okay line-up to me. It could be much worse.

I was really hoping they’d stick with the no host thing. I really don’t care one way or the other about Khloe. I guess she could spend time talking about her sister pulling her baby out, or of her other sister having to see Kanye naked. About the same level of pain with both, so it’s hard to tell who has it worse. That about sums it up, Khloe is the least interesting of the three KK’s.

Rodney, I don’t think Nicki Minaj rates the diva label. I haven’t seen anything from her that puts her vocals in the diva category. There ARE some other labels that come to mind …some of them even nice.

Some might erroneously say, “She was 45 minutes late. What a diva!” But they’d be wrong. If you can’t sing and you’re 45 minutes late, that doesn’t make you a diva, …just a beyotch!

Niki Whatever is no Diva…more deviant than anything. She can’t sing or dance. She looks like a piece of trash that’s been drug behind an IceCream Truck. This stupid show is a joke. None of the very talented performers ever get a real chance becasuse we’re inundated with fake talent. Thus the addition of Niki to judge such. She coundn’t compete with Mariah Carey under any circumstance.

Here is what Merriam has to say about it: “a usually glamorous and successful female performer or personality”. While the Free Dictionary says: “a highly distinguished female singer; prima donna” and “1. An operatic prima donna. 2. A very successful singer of nonoperatic music”

She’s glamorous, successful, female, and most likely a prima donna in the modern sense.

Well, hello, Rickster! Nothing like a nice picture to get me to drop by. Funny, I actually saw her this past Saturday in Nashville. A good time was had! :)

Been so busy with work that I haven’t had time to be around much. I’m not too enthused about the Idol judges yet, but I’m sure I’ll check it out when it comes back next year. As far as The Voice, I’m watching some. At this point, I’m more entertained by XFactor ’cause it’s “shiny and new.” Oh, and another funny connection, Mario hosts (hosted?) Randy’s show, America’s Best Dance Crew…

Watching X-Factor tonight, and the talent, so far, has definitely been better than last year.. Demi Lovato is very good in her role, positive and fun to watch. We thought it was a good show tonight, and well worth the time to watch. Have to think though, that the judges “walk-off” scenario was a scripted part.

Last year, they threw-out some really good talent from the auditions, put-in some painful set-to-fail acts for casting, then the show got mean-spirited and manipulative — so the next step will be what they do with what they got.

We can see where the song choices the Judges use on The Voice, could severely hamper some of the artists that are more reliant upon smooth tone and folk/soft-rock style… in the battlerounds. Remains to be seen, but the live audience responds more to octave running yell-outs, than they would to a Norah Jones or Sara McLachlan.

I see so many on these talent shows (also DVR or watch “The Next”) chasing 2nd rate versions of Carrie Underwood or Whitney or Beyonce, etc.,, that I have to wonder who’s advising or letting them try that stuff in a real competition where they need to establish themselves.

Morning!

That was the primary difference I saw last season between The Voice and X-Factor. On The Voice, the judges actually like each other and the slagging is all in fun. But on X-Factor, it was fairly obvious that much of the banter between the “coaches” was mean spirited.

On The Voice, each judge gave constructive criticism no matter who was performing while on X-Factor, L.A. Reid usually had nothing good to say about anyone who wasn’t on his team and clearly voted for his team member a few times when they had given the inferior performance to the one they were competing against.

Morning!

I got to watch the last half of XF last night. I still think it is a lot better than the Voice. But it is the live shows that tell the true tale. Will LA get nasty with every contestant but his? Will Simon turn into Mr Nice Guy with his groups and dismiss everyone else? Will Demi stay cute and perky with that great smile? Will Britney make it through the season?

As for the talent…I saw very little that I thought was outstanding. Some were very good and the live shows will tell the tale on them as well.

Wonder just how preg. Shakira is? If she’s just 2-3 mos, no way she could do a Spring show – would be delivering sometime Feb-Apr. If she’s a good bit further along, say 5 or 6 – she’d be finished and ready to go for Spring. Strange timing – girl accepts job one day, announces a situation that could really intefer with it next day – almost like a joke on the producers.

Hi y’all,

I, too, am enjoying XF more than The Voice. The dynamic so far is pretty entertaining, and the contestants have been really good. I’m very pleasantly surprised at how few bad auditions we have seen so far. I actually like that some of the people I expect to be terrible are actually pretty good. Panda was hilarious, and a lot of fun.

My thing with The Voice is that it’s more of the same. I feel it’s come back too soon. I’m very much reserving my judgment until we move on past the blind auditions. If I’m as annoyed as I was last season with the stupy Battle Rounds (I only watched that because well, Kelly was on), I won’t stick around.

I enjoyed X-Factor last night. I thought Diamond White and Tate Stevens were both very good. Tate is one of the best male country singers I’ve heard on a competition show. Diamond being only 13 was great but she’s still too young IMO. They were others including Panda although I doubt she makes it to the home shows.

Ditto to DanJ.

I think that Tate is ready to record today. I’m no country fan by any stretch of imagination, but the guy sounds solid IMO.

Good thing Diamond had something other than Adel in her repertoire. I’m not sure how she would’ve faired if she didn’t perform “A Man’s World”.

I flashed back through last nights episode to get names of several contestants that I could not remember. In a nutshell I thought Jessica Espinoza was excellent and should make it to the house shows along with Tate and Diamond.

I didn’t like the attitude of CeCe Fray and while she was good I didn’t see what the other judges saw. I think Ally Brooke has potential, she certainly has the look. Rapper Rizzloe Jones doesn’t cut it. Vino Alan (tattoo guy) won’t make it to house shows. Same for the twins Jerhemiah & Josh. The group Citizen won’t make it although I thought they were good.

Finally I thought Louis Walsh was a good fill in for Simon. Since I watch XF UK via you tube I do know a little about him.

G

Thanks for reviewing the names, DanJ. I remember a few that you mentioned. In terms of Citizen, I agree with Simon. A few of the guys sounded good individually, but I wasn’t impressed by the harmony of the group, collectively. Espinoza is that “raw” talent I was referring to earlier. I think she was the girl from South San Antonio. I enjoyed her.

I’m still grinning over Panda. She made my night through her personality and talent. Unfortunately, her style of music and singing is no longer part of the r&b fabric. It’s more underground soul and blues today. At least she’s getting the exposure and bringing a spark to the show.

G, I loved Panda and I thought she was great. You described her perfectly. Blues & Soul! Kind of a throwback. Reminded me a little if Cissy Houston. However she isn’t the total package. If I were going to pick a winner out of what I’ve seen it would be Jennel Garcia however she will be my Jazzlyn Little if history repeats itself. Which it probably will!

I think Panda would do good on Broadway.

DanJ

September 20th, 2012
12:42 pm

Panda could do well on Broadway or even as a singer. Her problem will be her health. It may be what forces her out of the competition on XF. The physical toll these shows put on ths singers is rough and considering she’s older (50ish) and already has had some illness she may not be able to withstand the rigors of a show.

So I don’t see her getting to the judges house but she could make it as a gospel singer. I could see her signing a gospel recording contract.

danj, you are correct and the wear and tear of Broadway (nightly performances) would take a toll on her already deminishing health.
