“Idol” confirmed at the last possible second on Sunday the quartet of Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj.
We’ve already spent the past few days scrutinizing this one so I don’t have much more to say. The New York City rounds have begun.
The spies told MJ that 30 contestants were sampled yesterday and almost all got through.
Gotta run. If anything else interesting “Idol” related happens today, I’ll just attach it to this.

This year will be hard to watch, thank goodness Randy Jackson’s still on the show. I guess I’ll be more of XFactor fan this year.

Britney Spears famous line:” I would like to know who let you on stage ..”
Contestant to Demi : “thats why you use auto tune(or is it tone?) and i dont” anyway priceless come back.
From what I saw as far as the talent on Xfactor..they sound far better than the voice or Idol. the few I saw on Xfactor really can sing. From what I have heard being push through on Idol the last few years have Really been subpar. The last five winners Don’t sound near as good as the contestants this season on Xfactor
I hope Idol concentrates More on Great contestants and not making it about the Judges which they have the last few seasons beginning when Paula first left. Make it about the Contestants Not about the over paid Judges! sorry but Xfactor is a tad more interesting then Idol. I saw this coming.

Mercedes: I didn’t make it to the Richard Gere movie this weekend, as it’s only at 2 theaters right now – not my 2 favorites (no stadium and very narrow aisles + Midtown is too far). However, if you have Comcast, it’s apparently On Demand under the “same day as in theaters” – saw an ad when looking thru the on demand site. I may just watch it at home.
The judge lineup is rather disappointing! If we could just get rid of Mariah and especially Nikki, it’d be ok – we’ve lived with Randy for 11 years – guess we could do another couple years with him.

From some discussions today with others who watch Idol, here sre some observations -
1. By adding 3 new Celebrity Judges and retaining Randy, the sliding meter that says on peg 1, “it’s all about the talent” and peg 10 “it’s all about the Judges”, the meter has just slid to about 8 1/2. These Judges are not there to help “discover” more and better talent. They are there to attract younger and more viewers to the show. That’s the new norm in talent shows on tv anyway, so it’s just part of the trend.
2. Mariah should be an improvement over Lopez, Keith Urban is a plus over Tyler, but nobody knows for sure until we see a few episodes. Mariah is more of a “star” among the 35+ age group, as we don’t see a lot of teens/tweens wanting to do her music in local shows or have her music on their personal collections.
3. Nicki has some videos in her collection that could cause controversy for a supposedly family show. Giving her a chair on Idol could have some feedback if these happen to be seen by parent groups, etc.

Finally caught up with XFactor… don’t think I’ll care for another episode. Show is too much about the judges. Pleasantly surprised by the Demi girl. Kind, honest, and clever. As for the contestants… DVR missed the woman with the cute baby and whatever came before. Only really liked the Pat Benatar-girl. Show itself too much torture porn for me – first that old chum of Britney’s, and then the bullied racoon girl. An ordeal to watch.

First off, we have undeniable proof that AI and Fox don’t really give a shyte about the opinion of the majority of their viewers! If they did, we wouldn’t be looking at a 4-judge panel since it was made quite evident that most fans hated that idea last time it was tried!
This is AI thumbing their noses at the viewers.

@ Miss J, I think the last time anyone tuned in to Idol for the judges was to see what Simon had to say during the first few seasons (before he started mailing it in!)
For me (”for you”), Idol (and Idol fans) can no longer say the difference between it and “those other shows” is that the focus is on the contestants. That ship sailed long ago. We just finally got the confirmation from AI!
While the primary focus on The Voice is the competition between the judges, The Voice never tried to say it wasn’t. That’s the way the show was set up from the beginning and they haven’t tried to make excuses for it.

The Voice has the top talent and none of the “joke” contestants to waste time. Even the rejects are a cut above the other two shows.

BUT, on The Voice, the contestants are secondary to the “judges”. The talent may be better but they are only there to highlight Christina, Blake, CeeLo and Adam.

Can’t believe no one has said it yet (or I missed it). AI has officially jumped the shark. My reason for saying so? Upon hearing who the new judges are, my wife said, “That’s it. I’m through with that show.” I can’t disagree.
