Two Georgia mainstays of very different ilks – Honey Boo Boo and Steve Harvey – got gently mocked on “Saturday Night Live” last night.
During the fake news report, Bobby Moynihan played a scarily eery version of June “Mama” Shannon, lack of chin and marble-mouthed talking. The only thing missing: her frequent release of bodily functions. Vanessa Bayer fared less well as Honey Boo Boo herself. The funniest line came from Seth Myers:
“Even though you both speak English, your show is mostly subtitled.”
Otherwise, it didn’t quite hit the mark.
Later, former Atlantan Kenan Thompson brings back his Steve Harvey character. Harvey has lived in Atlanta the past few years but had to move to Chicago for his talk show.
In the parody, Kenan’s Harvey does a design makeover of host Seth McFarlane, making him look just like Harvey as in brightly colored pin-striped suit, bald head and mustache. It aired in the final 20 minutes of the show and is more mildly amusing than hilarious. You can watch it here on hulu.
One of the funniest skits? A bit about Psy, the Korean superstar, whose video “Gangnum Style,’ has become all the rage – at least for the next five minutes:
